Chapter 17 - Last Warning

[-In The Pride Holdings Enterprise-]

Right after Scarlett discussed with her division chief, she went ahead to sort out her prying peers.

For spreading such a false rumor about her.

Because it was beyond absurdity to consider the details about the rumor being talked behind her back.

Most especially the one started it.

Scarlett initially thought that it would be Ivon but the intrusive remarks of Veronica before she met with their division chief became suspicious for her.

Then it became clear to Scarlett when she remembered that Veronica was seated nearby while they talked about her relation with the vice president of the Pride Holdings Enterprise.

'Maybe that bitch assumed things from my conversations with Ivon!' Scarlett thought to herself while on her way back to her desk.

In her return, everyone was obviously gossiping about something that involves Scarlett and they looked suspicious with their expressions.

Scarlett had no time to deal with them one by one.

What she had in mind was get rid of the root and source of the problem. Then set her as an example to others.

The other employees were nervous at the sudden intimidating and fierce look on Scarlett's face.

It was evident that there would be confrontation and trouble.

Even Ivon felt the tension around.

She intended to approach Scarlett but it was too late for Ivon to do anything.

Veronica could see Scarlett fuming in eagerness to confront her.

"So, I heard you were responsible for the rumors circulating around the office?" Scarlett's direct words aimed at Veronica.

There was no chance for Veronica to deny.

Because it was clear in Scarlett's eyes that she was absolutely sure with her choice of words.

"W-Whaat?" Veronica's attempt to deflect the tension being directed towards her.

Unfortunately for her, Scarlett was not having it.

Before Scarlett took over the life of the main female lead character of the book she was bizarrely transmigrated into…

She was someone who does not back down on a fight and would never let anyone step on her.

"Let's stop pretending here as if you are innocent. We both know that you are the one who started the rumors around," Scarlett did not hold back with her words.

Veronica was taken aback by the fierceness and unrelenting presence of their newly hired assistant chief division.

"This is so unprofessional and unbecoming of an assistant chief…"

Scarlett did not let Veronica finish her words.

The look on Scarlett's eyes says it all.

Feigning ignorance and the attempts of Veronica to deflect the issue were clearly pointless now.

Without raising a finger, Scarlett reminded Veronica of her place in the office.

"May I remind you that it's more unprofessional and unbecoming for someone like you to spread a rumor or even initiate such a lowly act, hmm? Or is it the only thing you are good at?" Scarlett threw a spiteful remark at Veronica.

The other employees were surprised and astonished at the unwavering spirit of Scarlett.

To go head to head against the employee closest to their chief.

For a long time, Veronica was untouchable and considered to be most feared staff in their division.

But with Scarlett's attitude and display of fierceness, it seems that everyone must be wary of her more.

"I may not speak of this more often… but people should know their place. I am higher in rank than you and do you even have any concrete evidence regarding your accusations about me?" Scarlett glared at Veronica as if she was nothing but a small insect in front of her.

In her entire career and life experience, Veronica never met someone intimidating and fearless as Scarlett.

Her words were lost along the way.

Just by the glare of Scarlett and the tone of her voice, Veronica yielded in fear for her life.

She held her own and realized the embarrassment she was being put into.

There was nothing but silence from her.

"I will repeat again so that everyone can hear. I have no romantic nor indecent relations with the vice president of this company. Focus on your work! Instead of making up stories that are completely not true!"

Everyone looked down and feared Scarlett.

Part of human's nature to recognize the threat presented in front of them.

And Scarlett's presence was no different from it.

Ivon felt the guilt of being the one who initiated the cause for Veronica to create such rumor.

If it wasn't for her, Veronica may not have the bullet to use or piece for her rumor to spread around.

Immediately after Scarlett returned to her desk, Ivon approached her red velvet haired peer.

There was hesitation at first.

But Ivon conquered her guilt.

"I am really sorry if I was the one who caused this trouble. Giving them much reason to talk about you. If only I just talked with you in a better time or place, maybe…" Ivon tried to explain herself.

Before she could finish her words, Scarlett stopped her.

"Don't worry! It's all forgotten already! I just had to make it clear with them… That I am not a pushover and they should be careful if they dare to cross with me again! I am not an easy target… they better be prepared if they decide to go at me!" Scarlett told Ivon.

Though, Ivon was still feeling responsible for the misunderstanding that took place around Scarlett.

"Anyways I have a dinner with that Gavin guy… So, wish me luck and we could successfully achieve our objective in establishing connections for the company," Scarlett sudden remark.

A shift from the intense confrontation a while ago.

Making an attempt of setting aside her issues with their peers.

Ivon was impressed with how quickly Scarlett adapt to the situation around her.

Not letting it put her down.

"Gavin? The handsome guy working as consultant of the vice president?" Ivon wondered.

"Yes! That one… do you think it's appropriate to go alone with him? I don't want another rumor to be set off just because I am with him on a dinner," Scarlett pointed out her concern regarding her scheduled dinner with Prince Kratos.

"Hmmm… I don't understand why am I being self-conscious suddenly?"

Unknown to Scarlett, Prince Kratos was only under a disguise because of his interest to know Scarlett better.

And while Scarlett was confronting Veronica, Prince Kratos could hear everything from the other room.

-Moments After-

Before Scarlett arrived at the restaurant for her supposed dinner with Prince Kratos,

Veronica was on her way out of the parking lot with her car.

Until a huge truck fast approaching to her car.

It was too late for her to evade such collision.

A crash was about to take place.

But the truck stopped before hitting Veronica's car.

Veronica screamed for her life.

Thinking it was the end of her.

Fortunately, the driver of the truck was able to step on the break before getting into any serious damage.

Suddenly, a ring from her phone could be heard.

She answered the call.

"Y-Yes? Who's this?" Veronica's voice stuttered in fear for an almost life-and-death collision.

The man on the phone spoke.

"Let this be, as your last warning! Tender your resignation tomorrow and never show your face around the Pride Holdings Enterprise. Or else… I cannot reassure you if there will be a next time to hold on to."

Her tears fell and Veronica knew that the man behind it was serious about the threat.

She looked at the masked driver of the truck.

Holding on to the driver's steering wheel, the driver gave a last warning to Veronica.

The truck bumped into the headlights of Veronica's car.

Breaking it into pieces.

Feeling the intentional damage on her car.

The call ended with Veronica shaking in fear for her own life.
