Chapter 18
We have the worst luck in the universe...
I kept running as fast as I could until I reached the apartment. We locked all the doors and bordered all the windows.
"Guys why the hell was the purge just declared?!" I yelled.
"Remember when we were in ALIRON and the woman said that the building was evacuated because they forwarded something. It must have been the purge!" Hazel replied.
My body was piling up with a hybrid of feelings that it was getting difficult to breathe. Everything fell upside down.
"Jamie, you ok?" Elijah asked.
"Yeah I'm fine," I lied.
I never meant it but I had to make sure they didn't worry about me because we had even bigger things on our minds.
"GUYS GET HERE IMMEDIATELY!" Aanisah yelled. We went into the room which held Tatia but she wasn't there.
"THAT CLEVER LITTLE WRETCH!!" Layla roared as she swept her hands across a table nearby causing the objects to shatter on the floor.
Tatia had escaped...
"What the hell are we going to do?! She was our only leverage to ALIRON!" Aanisah asked.
"Guys it's ok we can work with this" I suggested.
"We can deal with this later but right now let's get some sleep!" Hazel demanded.
"Jamie, Elijah you guys are going to sleep in this room and I don't want any defences because as I am in a very hostile mood right now so don't try and mess with me!!" Layla roared.
When they all left the room, we started to clean the room up and chose places to sleep. I let Elijah have the bed while I slept on the couch by the window. I think that I was punished with insomnia because I never managed to sleep. I shifted around to notice that Elijah was not asleep as well.
"Can't sleep?" I asked.
"Yeah. Just hearing the purge being announced kind of brushed it away," he replied.
"Yeah, I feel like we have the worst luck in the world. How the hell are we supposed to find ALIRON when we have millions of people pushing us away?" I demanded.
"Jamie those people may have numbers but they don't have one thing we do" He stated.
"What's that?" I questioned.
"You and Hazel. You have amazing abilities, you're stronger than you think." He cheered.
"Great to have these stupid abilities when I don't even know what they exactly are," I moaned.
"Jamie you have a group of people here that can help you including me. If you need help just ask" he replied.
"Thanks, Elijah," I responded.
"Anytime," he answered.
Surprisingly after the conversation with Elijah, I fell asleep for a couple of hours which was a positive sign.
Later when I woke up I turned to see Elijah sleeping peacefully so I decided not to wake him yet. Then I freshened up and went into the kitchen and made a quick fruit bowl for breakfast. With the fruit bowl in my hand, I slumped on the couch and turned on the news. Every single channel was talking about the purge and the ways to stay safe by not going out of your houses only if it was an emergency. In three hours, the whole world knew about the purge which I knew was not a healthy indication.
"Scary isn't it?" Hazel asked.
"Terrifying "I replied.
I turned to see Hazel in her white Egyptian cotton pyjamas yawing as she sat on the couch beside me. Next, I shifted a blanket towards her keeping her warm as we ate the pieces of fruit together.
I felt like this would be the last piece of paradise before the beginning of hell hits us all...
"Good you two are up. We have a plan!" Layla stated. Me and Hazel stared at each other with curiosity.
Well, this was going to be interesting. Aanisah, Layla and Elijah stood over us with a face of deviancy.
"Guys we have been thinking about the abilities you possess and ought to try something out!" Aanisah said calmly.
"We want you guys to sit in the centre of the room and be in harmony like meditating" Elijah declared.
"ALIRON may have an army of people coming after us but we have two of the most powerful weapons," Layla exploded.
Me and Hazel did as they said but felt very uncomfortable.
"You ready?" I asked.
"Ready as I'll ever be." Hazel brightened.
We held each other's hands and let each other in. At the start, nothing happened but then a spark went off. I inhaled and allowed Hazel inside my mind. Out of surprise, the ground started to tremble and everything began to elevate in the air. Golden sparks started to produce and all around us and a burst of mystical energy fragmented mostly everything in the apartment. Then, Elijah, Layla and Aanisah stood up from behind the couch their faces filled with delight.
"Well, that was something!" Elijah cheered.
"Looks like we have our hypothesis is true!" Layla added.
With that, both me and Hazel crumpled on the floor.
Hazel
Life is unusual but gives you astounding possibilities if you expose them to yourself.
When Jamie and me created that burst of circular energy, I knew we had created something unique. A power that ALIRON could not destroy. I must have collapsed because I was brought back to that oblivion state where the two doors were in front of me. I chose the door named Atlas this time because I required some answers. As I stepped inside, I was brought to the Parthenon this time. Atlas was in the centre in a meditation pose. Pentelic marble structured the Parthenon. Sixteen red and grey granite columns stood high all around us holding the Parthenon in form. The scorching red-hot sun shone across our faces making it difficult to see.
"So why are we in Greece this time?" I asked.
"Well, Hazel do you even know what the name Atlas means? It comes from Greek mythology about a titan who went battle against Zeus was defeated for which his punishment was condemned to hold aloft the heavens!" He replied.
"Interesting," I responded.
"To answer your question, we were in Greece because I thought it was a glorious country to show you seeing as though you won't come here very soon with the purge being declared and your mission with ALIRON.
"Ok, how do you know that?" I demanded.
"Hazel I live in the deepest parts of your subconscious, of course, I'm going to know everything you know!" He laughed.
I found that a little frightful but I needed knowledge now.
"Atlas, I need your help more than anything right now," I continued.
Instantly Atlas gave me a serious face.
"What is it, Hazel?" He requested.
"I need to learn about this power within me and how to control it" I pleaded.
"Hazel firstly this power inside you is a gift, not a burden. You can control it in many ways but first, you must try and hold on to something that lights the power within you" He responded.
"Try it Hazel" he insisted.
Just like Atlas said, I did it. I thought about the school dance. Me and Jamie are in the hall together wanting to dance but we are too scared to ask. A smile rose on my face thinking about the moment.
"Good Hazel, now use this power that is brightening inside you. Create something new!" He declared.
I thought about the Parthenon and how it would look in the olden times. The pillars were fully constructed, the drawings were freshly executed and the centre of the temple had a red fire lighted. I heard pieces of rock being crushed together, pebbles flying from all directions and a flame igniting beside me.
"Hazel, open your eyes!" Atlas ordered. I opened my eyes to see a fully constructed Parthenon in front of me. It gleamed in the morning sun looking delighted to notice itself afresh. What the hell, I did it!!
"I told you Hazel the ability you have is a gift!" Atlas mentioned. Without a doubt, I then sprinted towards him and covered my arms around him.
"Thanks," I replied.
"Always," Atlas answered.
Then sadly a bright white door arrived in front of me again telling me it was time to go.
"Atlas before I go, can you tell me why I have this power?" I asked.
"Hazel the power you have comes very rarely; you only come once every generation. I know this because I used to be a patron for someone like you. His name was James," he explained.
"What happened to him?" I asked.
"James was a compassionate selfless soul. He always put others before himself which was of course what ruined him in the end. In the 1800s there was a war going on between two separate lands and James believed that he could fix it all. I tried so hard to stop him but he didn't listen. James went in the centre of the conflict and saved both lands from annihilating themselves to death but the power he owned became too much for him and he departed" he answered.
"I'm so sorry to hear that Atlas," I responded.
"Hazel please don't be the same as James. Choose yourself ok?" He demanded.
"I'll try Atlas," I replied.
With that, I walked inside the white door leading me back to reality.
