So in a normal situation, a single player or a party of player would choose one spot and start killing those animals in the 'Chicken Farm', at least till they got tired, till they've finished the quests, their storage bags are full or their levels increased that killing these tiny things would no longer give meaningful XP. After all, is not as if there is only single low level monster map.
All sorts of 'adventurers', i.e, players were out there in the farm. The posers- who showed off their gaming capacity. The helpers- who helped their party to get enough XP. The beauties- boys and girls with exceptional looks [IRL= in real life or IG= in game] who would start apart so that other people could worship their looks.
The elites- oops, the elites had killed enough and got enough XP that they were roaming in higher level maps. They were handling level 4 wild cats, level 5 mad dogs, level 6 small wolves. Few daring ones or proficient ones were fighting level 8 and level 9 small boars. You have to understand that their current levels were much lower than the monsters they were fighting.
Yet these people were trying their best to kill such animals. Reason- it increased their skills, XP bonuses for killing higher level monster was very good. If it was any other game, they could have given reason like 'too many players and not enough monsters', but that would not work here.
These daredevils had no reason to worry. The Penalty for dying was not applicable on the first day so they wanted to learn all they could about all sorts of maps near novice village. Then they could sell the information directly or indirectly, they could pull other players in their guilds....lots of reasons.
Even the not so good players ventured out of chicken farm as soon as they could, just to boast that they have seen other things, they have fought other monsters.
But here was the contrast- Nia. She was killing all the animals in a zone [Does that mean, now Nia has enough mechanics to kill those level 2 hens and level 3 roosters?]. She would rest, eat a piece of bread sometimes, drink a sip of water sometimes. Then she would remove everything in that zone before the monsters re-spawned. Instead of killing the new monsters, she would leave and find a new zone to fight.
Initially, no one noticed her. Who has the time, right? This is just the first day and it would be end of first end before they could even blink. But later...they had to. The effect left behind her were too striking to not notice her.
Just imagine- a whole plain of grass, here and there vibrant flowers and fruits, the trees in the background were good too. In that plain, all sorts of cute and little or at least small monsters making sounds, doing their own business.
Suddenly, there is a brown patch of soil. How jarring would it be to see a patch of brown in the sea of green. Look, here's another one. Oh, I noticed another one. Oh Lord, the monsters in that place don't look cute at all. All of them look angry though no players have gone near them.
Come on! Check this out! Use the "Inspect" skill. The monsters name has changed. Level 0 angry chickens, attack rate and range increased. A new attack skill developed. If chickens are this bad, how bad would the roosters would turn out to be.
The answer- very bad, in fact, it should be very very bad, fatally bad. The level 3 roosters were so angry that they did not even wait till players had killed nearly half of the hens, they directly faced them- shoved a lot of skills and killed them. Even after killing them, till their bodies disappeared, the roosters were lambasting skills on them. What a way to die!
Soon, the local chat channel for Daka village was filled with news of new types of monsters in low monster map and changes noticed in the map. Nia apparently had forgotten about the local chat channel. So she had no idea she had created a new problem for her fellow players.
She may not have noticed them or their plight. Yet now , they did notice her. They saw she went on playing all alone and as she moved on, a new brown patch would be formed.
After watching for a while, they were sure that she was the root cause of all. If it was a man, no doubt they would have ganged up on him and kicked him till he died. But the player was a girl. This made the issue a bit more troublesome.
This situation was making everyone face the big elephant in the room- the gender bias. Even after so many years, the bias was still prevalent and more rampant. Though JIN HO was supposed to be more inclined towards player equality, no one was really believing it.
Lets be honest. Most of the rules in gaming company was because most men would shed their gentleman persona and would behave as if they were not members of a cultured society. Thanks to the problems the ladies faced, their participation and their extent of immersion into the game was much reduced. Though the declining trend had stopped now, the distance between men and women still existed.
