Pulling on the rusted handle of the wagon, I gritted my teeth, desperate to find a source of heat. I was nearly there, just one last stretch and I was home again. I could feel my toes slowly crumble away from my foot, having been lost to the frostbite. It was my shoes fault, I knew that I should have gotten some new boots!
Dragging the wagon just outside of my building, I took a deep breath, almost fainting. Keep it together, Luna. I can already feel the warmth radiating through the windows of my apartment lobby. Okay, I can do this.
I cautiously took a peek inside and sighed with relief when I saw my landlady watching her show, completely distracted. I knew that the wagon would make too much noise going in, so what can I use as an alternative. I saw a few cardboard boxes but they'd never be able to hold the beast that I've got in this wagon. So, my only choice was to make a run for it.
Slipping my arms under the animal, I picked it up, almost toppling over in the snow. I steadied myself before I took a deep breath and ran into the building, right up the stairs. She never even knew that I was there.
Gosh, now I somehow have to navigate to the fifth floor with this thing in my arms. I can't risk taking the elevator, what if someone stops me and tells on me? I can't take any chances. Pulling up the remainder of my strength into my arms and reminding myself of the delicious takeout around my wrist, I continued to walk up step by step until I reached my doorstep.
I laid the animal down onto my bed and felt myself collapse, my whole body almost fainting due to exhaustion.
No... this animal needs me, and I need to save him. Grabbing needle and thread, I immediately sterilised them with hot salt water before preparing for surgery. I could tell that the wound didn't get to the vital organs, it was just a matter of blood loss. This wound needs to be closed, now.
Grabbing the needle, I bit my lip, feeling bad for the poor dog without anaesthetic. The animal is unconscious... so he should be fine, right? Grabbing the needle, I started to stitch the poor animal up layer upon layer until it was fully closed. I grabbed my curry, washing off the sauce before putting it close to the animal's mouth.
"Come on... eat..." I begged everything that I believed in, and then, I saw his nose nestle against the meat before opening up his mouth, slowly eating it. My eyes opened wide, sparkling. Yes! He's eating!
I continued to feed him, pouring the remainder of the sauce onto my rice before devouring it. I put my noodles into my small fridge before returning with water in a dish. The poor animal knew that it needed to eat or drink or else he didn't have a chance. It obediently licked up the water that I gave him all while I wiped up the excess blood that had stained my bedsheets.
Oh well, what can you do? It would be unwise to move him, and my bed is almost big enough for the both of us. What can I do, I guess that I'm going to fall asleep next to him. My fingers were still cold and frostbitten from the harsh winter outside. I unconsciously wrapped my arms around the animal only to find the relaxing heat that he gave out.
It's so warm... just like a large teddy bear. My eyes slowly closed, my arms remaining wrapped around the large beast's stomach. Despite me, fatigue overcame me and I fell asleep sore and exhausted.
