I felt my fingers slowly turn red in the cold. Sensations of numbness inhabited my entire body. "Wait here, Luna. I'll be back in a second."
No...
"Stay right here and don't move, okay?"
No...
"Mummy will be right back with Daddy."
No... don't leave me!
I watched as my mother's face, blurred out of my memory, slowly disappear into the blizzard in front of me. Loneliness kicked in, slowly encasing me in a frigid ice prison. I felt myself suffocate, falling to my knees. This can't be happening, not again. My eyes went wide with fear while I witnessed my fingers disintegrate into ash in the cold. Desperation kicked in while I desperately tried to break this cage that I was surrounded in.
"Mummy!" I cried out, anguished. However, for every reason, she didn't hear me. I could see her warped figure through the transparent chipped ice walk away, her head turned. Just as the contamination reached my face, I awoke with a huge gasp.
It had been so long since I've had that dream. It always reoccurs right after that specific date, I can never seem to find a way to block it out. It just exists... a realm in my head which I can't seem to erase.
Suddenly, my eyes turned towards the pool of blood next to my bed and memories flooded back inside of me. That's right, I saved that huge big dog yesterday! He must have jumped off of the bed, despite his injury! The blood suggests that he's ripped his stiches.
I rushed out of bed, once again following the droplets of blood on my wooden floor before I heard a sound in the kitchen. Faltering, I gripped tightly on the rim of my shirt before slowly advancing towards the noise. Slowly walking towards the crash, my eyes opened wide when I saw something that was not a dog in my kitchen, but a man.
A man.
There is a man in my kitchen.
And I am alone in this house apart from an injured dog who I still don't know the location of.
Great. Just what I needed. However, my attention immediately stroked down on the huge slash across his abdomen. He let out a groan, panting desperately.
I jumped out into the doorframe, making him jump. "Who are you? What are you doing in my apartment?" He looked at me, snarling. "What did you do to me?" What did I do to him? What? Confusion crossed my mind, making me take a step forward.
He crawled backwards, scared of me. "Don't come closer!" Then, I saw it. The black thread that I had used to stitch the dog up... it was hanging out of his abdomen. He snarled, covering his eyes in pure utter pain. There's... there's no way.
"What's going on here? What are you?" His eyes finally met mine, and by the way his teeth looked, I couldn't believe it... yet I was coming to that conclusion. My Father used to tell me that animal spirits existed but never in my life had I thought that his stories were real.
"Are you... the dog that I picked up on the street?" He looked at me, snarling. He must think that I'm speaking nonsense. After all, I don't even know what I'm saying-
"Who are you calling a dog?" He snapped, groaning again from raising his voice. "I'm a wolf, not a darn mutt." He's ripped his stitches out and he's in so much agony that it's putting pressure on his heart. Who... what is he? Is he dangerous?
Should I help him? Bring him to the hospital? No, if I bring him to the hospital and they test his blood, then won't they know that it's half animal, or whatever he is? I slowly fell to my knees, grabbing my first aid kit off of the kitchen table before opening it up.
"What are you doing?" he asked, breathless. "What's that?" He's cautious of me, so that must mean that he's not that dangerous. Right? Well, right now, he'll lose enough blood to die and the last thing that I need is a dead body in my apartment.
"Let me help you."
I have no choice... I need to extend my hand out to this... man?
