Chapter 33 - Do you really care about them?

"Alright, I will come by your office tomorrow."

Guy frowned, "Why can't you tell me now?"

Ruby pointed at the sky, "It's late. I have to go."

"Isn't it still early?" Guy remembered the time because he was going to take her to dinner.

Ruby shook her head. She smiled, "Yes, for adults. But not for children."

Then it downed on Guy that Ruby had taken foster children to her home. His forehead wrinkled slightly and the curiosity inside him welled up.

He hadn't had the time to ask about this matter clearly and could only hear her rough explanation on the phone.

Aside from being surprised by her unexpected decision, he just didn't understand why would she take the pain to raise children when she was this young.

Silently thinking, Guy chose to skip over some parts and asked the most important question, "What are you going to do with them?"

Ruby glanced at him before averting her eyes to the side. Covering half of her face in the shadow, thus making it hard for Guy to read her expression.

By telling a half lie and half-truth, she muttered, "Nothing."

The light within Ruby's eyes dissipated, blowing cold air. She continued, "They are pitiful."

"Looking at them reminds me of my childhood days."

Guy fell silent. After that, he helplessly wondered, "Ruby, can't you just forget it all? You are living well right now. There's no need to hang on to those memories."

Guy was afraid Ruby would misunderstand, so he added, "Of course, I didn't mean everything you have experienced up till now should be forgotten."

"Just... Try to erase the bad ones hmm?"

Ruby barely held back her laugh. She thought Guy was somewhat different since he seems sensitive about other people's feelings. It turned out she was hoping for too much.

How can he say it so lightly?

If it could be that easy, whether it's the original owner's memories or her memories, she would like to wipe it all down along with the stream of tears she once shed.

And if could, to rewrite everything that had happened to her and paint it back with a myriad of bright colors in the hope of her lifetime happiness.

She didn't realize it but somewhere deep in her heart there was a faint disappointment.

Ruby wasn't in the mood to talk anymore.

"I don't want to live like a fool with broken memories and incomplete feelings."

"Being able to forget your past doesn't make you a fool, Ruby."

Ruby shrugged her shoulders. "Maybe."

"But I prefer it this way."

She wants to keep those bubbles of memory in her precious treasure box. Securely locked and hidden behind the brash and wild demeanor.

As a token of proof that she had done her best to survive.

To live.

Guy knew he couldn't persuade her. Therefore he reluctantly gave up.

Looking at how nonchalant Ruby was, Guy had an urge to pat her head. Though Ruby wouldn't allow him to come closer.

She rolled her eyes and put a bored expression on her face. "That's it. I'm going Big Brother."

Guy grabbed her hands and called out softly, "Ruby."

The white and warm hand under his palms was thin, lacking power. He worried that it will be too fragile to hold the sky for those children.

"What else?"

This time Guy's face was serious and his gaze carried weight as he captured Ruby's eyes. His voice sounded rigid. He spoke slowly, "Do you really care about them?"

Ruby bore the pressure easily as she leisurely pull her hands back. Although she looked relaxed, her back straightened while the corner of her lips raised up.

She grunted softly, "Don't worry."

Ruby got into her car and drove out of the police station. She didn't even turn back once.

Guy sighed, he felt like Ruby had changed but she also act the same as before. The thing that hasn't changed much will be that she liked to keep secrets and try to do everything by herself.

He lamented to his secretary, "It's hard to understand her."

The secretary was tempted to comment on how similar the Young Lady and Young Master Guy are.

A while ago he was ordered to carefully help Crystal, but later he was told to focus on Ruby without the need to care for Crystal again.

It's difficult to guess the sibling's train of thoughts. The secretary couldn't keep up.

When Ruby arrived, the house was as quiet as a cemetery. The lights were turned off and there were no signs of Noah and Oliver.

Ruby checked the dining room only to find the food she prepared wasn't touched.

Ruby scratched her nose, thinking about how she would deal with this situation. Even though she still didn't know what her mistake was, she keenly perceived she had offended the twins.

She hesitated for a moment before gently knocking on the door. "Hey.. Umm.. I brought cake. Do you want to eat it?"
