Chereads / I Stole The Golden Eggs / Chapter 25 - Putting on a show

Chapter 25 - Putting on a show

Noah and Oliver's breathing stagnated.

The thumping sound in their chest got louder by the minutes, it's as if they could hear fireworks exploding with the intention of wreaking havoc.

They saw the sparkling glitters in her clear eyes. It was shining beautifully.

She was like a ball of fire that chased away all the bad things. Lighting up the unending darkness surrounding them.

But the more it shone the more afraid they became. They could feel a terrifying monster gnawing on their flesh. It fed on their negative thoughts and grew big with each passing day.

A thick, cold metallic chain tied their foot, maliciously binds them to a prison called anxiety.

They don't deserve to be with this person.

They belong to the underground hell. While she belongs up in the sky.

The vast difference between them was the reality they ought to accept.

Noah gripped his chest with an upset look, although he seems to be the coldest among the twins, he had the most sensitive feeling.

Noah ran away from Ruby's straightforward eyes by turning his head to Oliver.

His lips trembled. His eyelashes fluttered fragilely. The peerless aura evaporated to thin air. Leaving only an aura of a trapped animal.

Oliver's face darkened. He grabbed Noah and shouted hollowly, "Shut up!"

"Screw family! Don't ever bring it up with us."

Ruby was confused but she glared when she heard him curse. She was going to say a few things about him cursing. However, Oliver was faster. He pulled Noah to their room.

"Ah, hey!"

"Oliver!"

Noah secretly glanced back at the flustered adult. He pursed his lips.

There won't come a day where she can understand their hardships.

She knocked on the door for a long time but the twins didn't even say a peep. Ruby took it as they were playing dead.

In the end, Ruby went to the mansion alone.

She had a mixed feeling of worry and anger. She didn't know what was going on with them to suddenly blow their fuse. Did she say something wrong?

No matter how many times she scratched her head in an attempt to remember her faults, nothing came up. Instead, she was irritated from an unknown feeling.

There was a profound idea drifting in her brain. It's related to the changes on the twins but she just couldn't uncover it.

Her hands were itchy to teach the brats at home a lesson for making her restless.

When she arrived at the mansion, her expression was as dark as the bottom of a pot. She sulkily followed behind the butler.

Damn, these people. Said they wanted to mend the family relationship but she was treated like a guest. Not even a wisp of their presence was there to welcome her.

Does this make sense?

If it wasn't because she needed their help for Noah and Oliver's matters before, she wouldn't willingly agree to go back.

"You're here."

"Sit down."

She had barely come inside but Blake already instructed her like a king.

Pressing down the desire to rebel, she collected herself. Calmly sat at the designated place where she was the only one on the opposite side.

It's refreshing being in a trial. If she ever went to court as a criminal, she would know how to behave.

Ruby sarcastically thought.

Guy warmly asked, "How are you?"

"Great."

"Do you need any other help?"

"No."

"I left those guys for you. You can use them as you want."

"Alright. Thanks."

Guy's lips twitched. He smiled again, "Why didn't they come with you?"

Ruby grasped the meaning. "Tired. Kids need a lot of time to rest."

"Didn't you tell them that they should go back with you?"

"Why should I? Wait until they adapt first."

Blake who had been listening to their conversation was displeased. He impatiently scolded her, "Talk properly! Your eldest brother is asking, you better show some respect."

Ruby wouldn't be bothered to quarrel, effortlessly complied with Blake's demand. "Oh. Okay."

She faced Guy with a fake sweet smile, "Eldest Brother, what did you want to talk about?"

"Ruby wasn't feeling well before, please forgive me for replying perfunctorily." She blinked her eyes cutely and her eyelashes fluttered like a butterfly.

The big round almond eyes were watery, honestly staring at Guy. Her expectant gaze was so hard to bear.

Everyone: "....."

Zayn's scalp went numb from goosebumps. "What the heck. Can you stop being so weird?"

"Stay that way and see if someone dares to keep you company."

Zin said mournfully, "Hush. She is your sister. Don't be so hard on her, or else she would pretend to be miserable again."

"Hahh.. You're right. Sooner or later she would accuse us as bully."

Ruby stuttered, "B-But.. I-I-Isn't it the truth? You are all bully."

Ruby was on the verge of breaking down with her eyes glistened in tears. Her cheeks blushed from holding back her tears.

A minute later, a quiet, heartrending sob came out of her small mouth.

Everyone: "....."

Please remind them how indifferent she was before.

Blake's temple hurt watching her putting on a show so blatantly. "Stop it."

Ruby sealed her five senses, acting deaf and blind. She cried loudly, "Wahhh.. wuwuwu..."

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"

She rattled on and on about how sorry she was. The sound was piercing through the rooftop and traveled to all the servants' ears.

They curiously peeked from outside the door.

Catherine couldn't bear it anymore. She originally wanted to comfort her daughter, but Ruby wouldn't play by the rules, causing a ruckus the moment she was here.

Catherine beat her chest in anger.

"You still cry?! Didn't you hear your father said to quit it?"

Ruby paused, her breath hitched. Her whole body shook like a fallen leaf.

"I... I-I was wrong.."

Ruby hiccuped. She then tried to contain her sobs so hard that it looked pitiful instead.

All the servants who saw it felt sorry for her. Their heart was tugged by Ruby's sorrowful cry.

They knew how bias this family was to the true daughter and the adopted one. Because of that, they basically watched over Ruby from the start when she stepped into this mansion until she decided to move to her apartment just to have suicide.

When they heard the news, nobody knows how shocked they were. Some old servants couldn't handle it and directly fainted.

Now, seeing how Ruby who was lucky to be alive got bullied again by the other masters, they couldn't take it.

Even if the pay was high, they were still human. They could find other jobs outside here, but they couldn't ignore their conscience.

A couple of old servants stepped forward and rushed to Ruby, protecting her behind their back.

Mama Yu as the oldest one was so furious that the wrinkles in her face were fully stretched. She was there when the madam gave birth to Ruby, she also took care of little Ruby back then. She was really fond of Ruby.

"Master, Madam! What have you done to the Young Lady?!"

Blake and Catherine were speechless from being reprimanded. However, Blake couldn't dismiss Mama Yu because her position was unique.

Mama Yu was enraged. She didn't pay attention to anything else and kept going, "You love that girl more than your own daughter, I tolerated it. But if you wronged Young Lady again, I won't stand by!"

Ruby who was slumped on the cold floor, wore a smug expression.

Heather's family members saw it and they were stupified.

Ruby didn't stop. She smirked and let out a 'Heh~'

Perfect. Ruby was depressed from being shut by the twins. She urgently needed an outlet to vent.

Catherine: "!!!"

Guy: "..."

Zayn: "..."

Zin: "..."

Blake: "Get out!!!! Out!! Chase these people right now!!"

I've had enough of you.

BANG

Crack. Crack.

"Young Master? Are you okay?"

Secretary An barged into the room and found shards of broken glasses on the ground.

He gulped. Dreadfully inquired, "Young Master...?"

The man was leaning on the nightstand, irritatedly rubbing his forehead.

Vega felt his brain split from the headache.

His eyes flashed with ruthlessness. His face was deadpan. The freezing winter bloom in the room, shrouding him.

Secretary An cowered. When Young Master Vega went into this state, it would never end well.

"I will go get the pills, Young Master!"

He immediately flew like a frightened bird.
