Chapter 6 - FIVE

Violet's P.O.V

I woke up and rubbed my eyes before getting out of bed. Michael was still sleeping and snoring a little so I tiptoed to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I may be 6 but I can take care of myself and I know that big brother will get mad if I have cavities. I put my teddy on the side of the sink and stood up on the riser and brushed my teeth.

After brushing I went downstairs and made my way to the kitchen. I smelled pancakes and knew that Brother Jaime was there.

"Jaime!" I squealed and jumped up in his arms. He carried me with his one arm and held the spatula with the other. Brother is strong. Super strong! He is also very fast too! Which is why I love to play tag with him. He knows how fast he is and would literally slow down like a snail so that I can catch him and he can't catch me.

"How was your sleep?" He asked as he flipped the pancakes with ease.

"It was good! I was able to sleep well cause you stayed by my side and listened to my story even though you didn't want to listen." I said and giggled when his face scrunched up.

"Me? Not wanting to listen to your stories? Heck no! I would love to listen to them all day." He smiled and spun around making me spin too as he was carrying me on his arm.

He scooped the pancake out of the pan and placed a lot on our plates and carried one to the table. He sat me on one of the chairs and placed the plate stacked with pancakes and splashed with a lot of syrup plus a whipped cream on top in front of me. I said my prayers and started to gulp down the food. Brother laughed and went off to the counter to fetch the other plate full of pancakes. He sat by my side and ate his share.

Michael arrived at the kitchen table and laid his head on top of it. Big brother turned to look at my twin with a smile.

"I'll cook up some pancakes for you," He stated standing up from his seat after finishing his last bite, and went on to make some more batter and cook it up for Michael. My twin only gave a lazy hum as thanks with his face still laid flat on the table. Still sleepy.

While Jaime was cooking breakfast for Michael, I finished my breakfast and went back upstairs.

As soon as they noticed their baby sister was gone from the kitchen, Jaime and Michael looked at each other and knew they had to talk about what happened to her.

"Brother how can we keep her from h-", Michael started but was abruptly stopped by Jaime with a raise of his hand.

"How many pancakes would you like?" Jaime asked his back turned to Michael. "Three please," Michael answered.

"Alrighty," Jaime said as he flipped the pancakes and stacked them one by one on Michael's plate. As the brother placed Michael's plate in front of him, the boy started to eat his breakfast. Jaime plopped down on his seat and stared outside the window.

"We can never keep her from him." Michael looked at his brother as he chewed. He listened to his big brother with a quizzical brow.

"He will always get the opportunity to get close to Violet. The only thing we can do is try our best to keep her close." Jaime continued as he sipped from his coffee.

"How would we do that?", Michael asked continuing to chew on his pancake. Jaime's eyes glanced over at the little brother. His eyes lingered for a second more on the boy, raising a brow on how Michael seemed so invested when he knew nothing of HIM.

"Well, there is the option of getting rid of him.", Jaime stared at the youngest, waiting for the brother's reaction. But Michael only stared at him blankly. Unfazed by the notion of killing a man.

"How?" He asked as he stared at him with a flat look. To which Jaime shivered at the reply. He didn't expect the boy to hold such hostility towards HIM. Was it possible that the young boy still had some memories of the past, Jaime thought to himself.

"We cannot get rid of him. Or we should not for that matter" Jaime replied sighing as he took his plate and walked towards the sink.

"Why not?" Michael retorted, anger clearly shown on his face. Jaime dropped his plate harshly on the sink almost breaking it.

"Let's not talk about him. Let's just enjoy this day with Violet." Jaime softly said to his brother as he walked to the living room with Michael trailing behind him.

"I want to enjoy this day with the both of you. It has been quite a long time since the three of us bonded. Why don't we all have a picnic outside for this afternoon? I'll invite the others and prepare the food." Jaime happily suggested.

Michael lit up at what his brother said. "Are you gonna hunt? Can I join the hunt?!" the boy squealed and jumped in excitement. Jaime smiled at his little brother's enthusiasm.

"Of course. But you have to ask for John's permission first." He stated.

"What? You know that he will never say yes." Michael complained.

"That's why I said to ask him first." Jaime laughed and told Michael to prepare for the picnic later.

Jaime sat down in the living room contemplating what to prepare later for their picnic. Watching Michael storm out of the room with a pout on his face.

How odd.

Later that afternoon...

John lay a blanket on the grass while Jaime arranged the food on top of the picnic table.

"What the hell would you need that for? We already have a picnic table." Jaime asked his brother.

"It wouldn't be a picnic without a picnic blanket." John smiled and patted the blanket so it would lay flat.

They spent the whole afternoon chatting and playing outside. The brothers know that he was watching from afar.

They didn't know that their baby sister also knew that he was close and watching them. Her brown eyes often looked into the distance with a sense of familiarity.
