Violet's P.O.V
I woke up and found that two of my big brothers were out to work. So I spent the morning with John and Michael. After lunch, my big brother gave me a bath and made me wear a pink dress with ruffles at the end.
"Why can't I go inside?" I asked as Big Brother was helping me put on my shoes.
"Because I need to talk to a very important person and he doesn't want little kids around during work." He explained while tying my hair in a high ponytail.
It confuses me at times as to how my brothers really think. It was not odd to keep me inside but these occurrences where I had to stay outside because of some company they had inside the house contradicted everything they planted into my head about how dangerous the outside world can be.
"Now run along little one, but don't go too far?" He kissed my forehead and led me outside the house leaving me on the playground to play on the swing.
Being outside made me remember the gate on the East fence and the door with the mysterious screams. I wanted to go back but I did not want to risk it, especially now that big brother is just inside. Playing for a couple of minutes by the swing and the sandbox, I suddenly felt tired and the urge to pee grew.
Getting off the swing I ran and entered the house using the back door. I was lucky that Big Brother might already be in his office in a meeting with his client and would not notice my presence inside.
After peeing and exiting the toilet on the ground floor, I tiptoed my way towards the door from the kitchen leading back outside to where my playground was when I heard muffled female voices coming from inside the parted door towards the basement. It piqued my curiosity.
Remembering the door from the forest and the frustration I felt when I didn't find out what was inside made me feel frustrated and gave me a bit of courage. This time I stood straight, tidied up my dress, and entered.
Greeting me was a putrid unbearable smell like spoiled milk and left inside the trash can for far too long.
"Ewwww. They need to clean this room often. It smells like a dead rat in here."
I mentally sighed and started to walk further down the stairs. Reaching the bottom of the staircase is another door that is made of metal and unlocked. I carefully reached for the knob that feels slippery and icky from the dark red ink smeared on it.
YUCK!
I opened the door and was greeted with the cold air and the rotting stench that stemmed from the inside grew stronger making me wrinkle my nose more in disgust. On the other side was a long hallway and a new part of the house I had never been into. Excitement filled my veins making me feel all jittery and ecstatic. With all the excitement, I could even feel my own blood rush through my veins making me smile wide.
I want to go further.
Walking further down the hallway I admired the way it looked. The walls are made from cement and bricks just like our fence. It looked a bit more like a tunnel than a hallway.
Red spots and lines stained the floor making it look like a red carpet. I giggled and splashed my shoes on the red paint spilled on the floor. Some of it splashed everywhere making small dots and spots on my dress.
The light bulbs give off yellow light like that of the sun. This hall looked like it came out of the horror movies that my brother watches all the time making me feel a bit on edge that something might jump in front of me from above even though there was nothing there but the clear white ceiling.
Walking further down the hallway I noticed that big metal doors can be seen left and right from me. I tried opening one but couldn't because it's locked. I pouted and made my way deeper towards the dark hallway seeing red splatters and handprints on the walls. This liquid red reminded me of blood that once dripped from my finger when I accidentally sliced mine using a scissor.
My brothers quickly washed and disinfected my wound so I didn't care and notice at the time. Seeing this red liquid drip from the walls. I can't help but be entranced by how enticing it looked and its scent seemed to become more and more divine the longer I inhaled the heavenly aroma.
Laughter can be heard. It seems to be the laughter of pure enjoyment. Like laughing with your friends and having fun. Only this laugh had a more sinister side to it. The noise meant that someone other than me was inside and it might be one of my brothers. The thought made me take a step back. "I think I should go back now.", I whisper to myself before turning to walk my way out of that mysterious but rather intriguing place.
I had one last look before I shut the door and made my way back outside, afraid that my brother would catch me inside while his client was still there. I sat back on the swing remembering the tunnel. The smell and everything about it made a wide grin spread across my lips. My thoughts carried back to what was behind the big door I found the other day in the forest.
Now I really want to see what's behind that door.
Standing up I walked slowly towards the trees. From my spot, I started to hear a man's voice. His voice seemed so sweet and heavenly. I could listen to him all day and would never get tired of it. It was a voice I felt too familiar with as if I had known the person talking for a very long time.
"Little, little, little, girl. How I wonder what you are! Over the fence so cute and oh so sweet. Little, little, little girl... I'm your shadow in the light.", the voice resonated under the shades of the trees beyond the fence.
I felt anxious. The tone of his voice made me want to hear more. I want to hear more of his voice. As I touched the gate a hand suddenly grabbed mine and started to pull at me. The action made me scream at the top of my lungs and started to claw at his hands clinging onto my wrists painfully.
"Let me go!" I looked up at his face and saw that it was a man. He looked young and his long curly hair covered his face but I could still see a bit of his eyes.
Red... He has red eyes...
"Violet! Where are you?" I heard Brother scream in the distance. We both looked in the same direction and saw John coming out of the house searching for me.
Frantically, the guy moved swiftly and opened the gate. He suddenly placed his forehead on mine, and once they touched I felt dizzy, and sleep took over my whole body making me limp. He closed the gate slowly and carried me in the other direction. Gently laid me down on the grass and stroked my hair. I felt scared, yet peaceful filling my thoughts with more questions than answers as to what was happening right now. He looked scary, but I felt safe and comfortable with him.
I could feel the stranger stroke my hair for one last time without saying a word and left me comfortably on the patch of grass beside the willow tree. Minutes later my eyes started to drop and the last thing I saw was my brother running towards me with black eyes, veins could be shown looked like black lines were spread across his face.
