At one of the roads connecting every place in the great forest of Fiora. The sun finally disappeared as the full moon rose and lit up the entire forest.
A certain carriage was resting at the edge of the road.
Randall aimed his hand at the pile of wood and activated his fire magic to light up the campfire.
"Fire magic sure a convenient skill."
Randall stared at Amiya sitting while hugging her own legs looking at him with her sleepy eyes.
"It's just a level 1 Lesser fire magic, I just learned this skill for this purpose."
"I see, but leveling it up to Fire magic is good too. What are 9 skill points, if in return you can have a skill that you can shape with your very own imagination? I'm really envious of the people who could learn elemental magic. Here I am stacked with healing magic." She sighed.
Randall sat at the wooden stool they brought for this mission. "Healing magic is rare you know, and besides I don't think my fire magic would turn out good. I don't have the imagination required to be a good mage." He darted his gaze at the campfire. "Not all who can learn elemental magic can actually become a powerful mage. If your mind is weak, it doesn't matter if you have high leveled skills, it will still turn out weak."
The rustling from the distance took their attention, a floating fireball was visible and the voice of the caster of the skill was audible.
Gwen and Clint came out from the forest carrying some wood.
"Oh, you are already here." Gwen sat next to Amiya while Clint sat next to Randall which was on the opposite side where she was sitting.
"That is what gonna happen when you are with a ridiculously hasty person. Randall is walking like a wind. I can still feel the pain on my legs because of constant running just to keep up on him."
Clint laughed. "I told you, Amiya, you should come with me. I will carry you for the entire time while picking up some firewoods."
"You cannot fool me, Clinton, I know for sure that I will be the one who will carry you while picking up some woods."
Clint just shrugged.
"Where is Mister Moriel?" Gwen was referring to their coachman.
"He will be back, he's just working on something," Randall answered as he pointed his finger to the carriage nearby.
At the moment the coachman Moriel arrived, they proceeded to eat and decided to converse with him about their mission.
The night was cold as the gentle breeze of wind blew around them, the entire place was shrouded in darkness as the sound of the forest wolves from afar was could be heard.
They decided to talk about the legend that took place 1500 years ago, Moriel gladly conversed with them about the topic. To their surprise, he was quite enthusiastic about the topic of the Fairy dungeon. But, in those 5 days of their journey, this was the first time he talked about the topic rather than just listening to the four travelers about their mission.
"The legend happened more than 1500 years ago, when this entire place was still a huge forest filled with only monsters in it, the knights of old Ashendar kingdom discovered a bizarre creature by accident while searching for an escaped prisoner hiding inside the cave system. A glowing ball of light as sized of an average human fist, small but capable of such great magic that could bring great calamity. Such power that nothing could compete."
Moriel paused for a second and wandered his eyes to the four adventurers listening to him. He leaned towards the flame revealing his aging but gentle face.
"Thanks to the help of appraisal stones, they discovered what it was. Fairy." Moriel said using a dramatic tone.
"What happened next?" Amiya asked as she chewed the grilled chicken on the stick she was holding.
Moriel smiled at her enthusiasm and continue the story. "But, humans tend to fear what they could not understand. Once they feared something, it either they would try to destroy that thing or attempt to subdue it. The old Ashendar kingdom chose the latter."
At the same time, Randall and Amiya instantly glanced at Gwen.
"Is there a problem?" Gwen asked out of confusion.
"Fighting against a literal calamity was never a reasonable action, and they had learned it in an awfully harsh way. The entire army of the Ashendar kingdom who went inside the cave system to subdue the Fairy never came out again. Along with the lives of knights the Fairy had taken, the Fairy disappeared and was never seen again. Not until today."
"And Heilmer wants to capture it?" Clint asked while shrugging.
Gwen closed her eyes and opened them again to answer Clint. "He is not planning to subdue it. Rather than making it obey by force, he is planning to make sister Aloisa befriend the Fairy to gain its favor, like a familiar."
"Imagine going into the war with a glowing ball of destruction floating at your shoulder," Amiya commented as she hugged her own body due to the cold.
Gwen did not reply, instead, she turned his gaze to Moriel just watching them. "It is a good thing, we are with a person quite knowledgable about such topic."
"No, no, my grandmother used to always tell us about it as a bedtime story."
Randall raised his hand closer to the fire to counter the cold. "I just can't believe that it's actually real. I thought it's just a fairy tale. Turned out, the Fairy does exist."
Moriel smiled. "Understandably, only a few people are believing about the existence of the Fairy, the Fairy of Fairy dungeon was subject of many stories, but no one could actually prove if they were real. Even their origin was untraceable. Some theorized that they came from the evolution line of Small lesser Nature spirits due to their resemblance, but they could not show any evidence to prove it."
"A very mysterious entity," Gwen said as she gaze upon the campfire.
Moriel looked at her with visible concern on his face."Let this old man give you some advice, once you are already inside the cave system, treat the Fairy as the most dangerous entity inside. Do not ever try to test its temper."
Gwen nodded. "We will not. Our mission is to scout the place and we were instructed to leave as soon as we determined the situation of the area. Interacting with a dangerous mythical class monster is not part of it."
Moriel smiled. "I am glad to hear that, Princess Gwendolyn."
