'N-no way…'
Shen Yun mumbled as she looked at a young girl's reflection that looked exactly like the younger version of herself but there was a burnt scar covering the right side of the girl's face in the rusty bronze mirror.
"Ha, cough- haha..."
She let out a hoarse laugh,
The sensation of dull pain coming from her throat made her even
more excited.
She slumps down at the floor, not having the energy to support herself as she stares at the dilapidated ceiling absentmindedly.
She's alive. She really is alive!
There were no rotting corpses around her, eating her flesh.
She closed her eyes, remembering the vivid memory of the painful death of being eaten alive by the things she hates the most without being able to put on a fight.
But that pain didn't even amount an inch compared to her pain of being betrayed by someone you thought of as a family.
She was dazed for a long time before recovering her senses, she called out to the seemingly empty air.
"System, are you there?"
__
Shen Yun felt resentful.
She resents heaven for being unfair.
Even until her last breath, it was unwilling to let her taste a drop of contentment in her life.
Shen Yun was unwilling to die like this, why would she die while that bastard was probably out there having fun.
Aren't they friends?
As a good friend, Shen Yun wanted to pull that son of a bitch to the 18th layer of hell with her.
She tried to let out a vicious laugh but to no avail, as her throat was currently being ripped open by long black nails.
It's a miracle she's still conscious.
Time passed by, seconds felt like hours, a minute felt like an eternity.
She heard a mechanical voice devoid of emotion along with a blue hologram that appeared in front of her when she was on the brink of death, her flesh serving as a meal to the rotten corpses.
'Gathering Data about the target:
Ding- Data gathered.
Testing Soul compatibility:
Ding- 94.87% compatible.
Soul Level:
Beep- *No Authority*
Target match criteria for Host.'
'Do you want to bind with system 69?'
The voice asked her.
Everything was blurry.
She was on the verge of losing consciousness.
But her instincts were telling her that it was a chance to live and she should grasp on it and hold on to it, despite knowing that it might have been an illusion made up by her in desperation.
'Yes.'
As she said that answer, she felt coldness surrounding her, making it difficult to breathe. She felt like she's going to die from the cold and suffocation.
It was a feeling similar to sinking to the bottom of the arctic ocean, the dark waters enveloping her in their midst, while she struggled helplessly to reach the top.
But the feeling quickly disappeared just like how it appeared out of nowhere.
Before she could feel relieved, everything turned black.
And she woke up inside another person's body.
___
"System 69 is always by the host side. Does the Host need something?"
The same robotic voice echoed in her brain.
It gave her a bit of comfort, albeit short-lived, after that horrifying ordeal.
'System 69, huh?'
Shen Yun had a weird look on her face when she heard the name.
Her mind needs to redirect her thoughts after that traumatic incident.
And what best way other than saying her favorite number that made her think of inappropriate things~
System 69:... As much as I appreciate the host liking my name, I would rather you hate it!
Ehem- Anyway, back to proper business.
She needed to find out what the system needed.
What does it need her for?
She narrowed her eyes as she smiled while twirling her hair with
her fingers.
"What are you?"
Her voice was cracked, but that's something she could care for later.
"System 69 is a system that is built to support and help its host as well provide missions for Host to complete."
Shen Yun nodded at the vague answer. She's not naïve enough to believe it'll tell her everything as long as she asks.
She already has a fair guess on what it is anyways.
it's a typical system of any random novel you read.
It couldn't be she's currently in a novel and as an MC that was weak and bullied until someone possesses them and be OP before ruling over the world right, ahh.
She has had this suspicion ever since the voice sounded in her head, but it only clicked now.
Her heart was beating wildly as she let her imagination run wild.
System 69: Despite me having doubts on how you are realising it this late, but the main point is, that's the mindset of a cannon fodder! A protagonist is supposed to be dense.DENSE.
(Fourth wall: Am I useless or Am I useless?)
System 69 despaired, it wouldn't fail its mission before even starting right?
Luckily for the system, Shen Yun's thoughts were fleeting.
Although Shen Yun was arrogant, She didn't have the princess syndrome, chikly thinking that the entire world revolves around her.
And while it does sound exciting in her imagination…
She's too lazy~
Taking over the world, going on adventures, risking her life, getting stronger, fighting and more fighting, etc.
All sounds nothing but work, work, and more work in her ears.
After running here and there in her last life, with her life at stake in every turn, Shen Yun wasn't in the mood for any more of these so-called adventures.
If it's possible, she wants to live the life of a salted fish.
...which is the exact mindset of all the protagonists who will work their asses off in the future.
But Shen Yun has denial issues, so of course that fact doesn't affect her at all~
But there is a boulder which would block her simple dream.
She had read a fair share of online novels to know that a system involved wouldn't just mean transmigrating and then living a new life, as much as she would like that.
System 69:... I'm obviously a golden finger, yet why do I seem like the villain?! (╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻
Shen Yun redirects her attention to the system, and as long as this thing exists, the possibility of her thoughts being pipe dreams are pretty high.
With a grumbling voice, she bites firmly on the bullet and asks,
"What missions?"
"Currently the Host has no authority, please level up the system."
Shen Yun:...
How can I complete the missions if I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing?!
Her left eyelid jumped as she felt a bad premonition before she finally let out a sigh.
She can't trust the system.
No, to be exact, she can't trust anyone.
That's a newly learned lesson from her experience.
Learn from your mistakes, wasn't there such a saying?
But she needed the system to live, and it wouldn't be wrong that she's entirely under its control.
She let out a scoff letting a self-deprecating smile curl on those pale thin lips.
But the expression quickly disappeared as she continued to ask system 69.
"Then how about this body?
Wouldn't I be able to receive its memories?"
She noticed it a while ago.
She only had a fracture of the memory of the original owner.
