Chereads / The Gluttonous Hero / Chapter 16 - A Test of Restraint

Chapter 16 - A Test of Restraint

"She's displaying what will happen if he loses control. Isabella and Rani, stay silent." Raphael sigh's, as he stands between them.

Ezekiel reaches out and grips Alice's wrists, the bones in his hands and her wrist popping under the pressure. "Are you trying to make me lose it?" He growls in her ear.

"Mhhm," Alice giggles, "Calm yourself," She mutters, "This is my payback for making mmmhm-"

Ezekiel cuts her off, biting down on her throat deeply as he covers her mouth with his hand. then he whispers an order in her ear. "You will wait until tonight for your reward. That's an order." He says gruffly. Pulling away he goes to wipe the blood away, only for Alice to lick it from the corner of his mouth.

"Thank you for the meal," She giggles lightly, turning with a flutter to the others, under his exasperated gaze. "As you can see his control should be find as long as he is not directly contacted by other human's. Shall we return?"

Johnathan rubs a hand down his face, with a resigned sigh. "She's going to be more of a handful than Ezekiel, and he's the New Blood."

Raphael shakes his head, sheathing his sword. "He does seem capable of quelling his thirst as long as she is present. There will be no harm as long as fresh blood is not spilled in his vicinity, what do you think, Elaine?"

"It should be perfectly fine, we're all present at his training and home. If anything happens over the next few week's we should be capable of responding."

Ezekiel moves to sit against a tree, leaning his head back with his legs sprawled out. He closes his eye's 'System' He wills.

Feeling a body sit between his legs, resting against his chest, he opens his eyes. His hands move to rest on Alice's sides, "We should head back, shouldn't we?" Ezekiel looks around the clearing at each person.

"That is entirely up to you," Alice says her head tilting to look up at him. "I'll keep you occupied when hunger consumes you if need be, we could even stay here longer until you adjust. It'd be best if some of them could remain here of course."

Ezekiel tilts his head, chewing the interior of his cheek as he slowly looks around. "It's not that it's difficult to resist, it just seems.... addictive? I'm not sure how to describe it, but I don't feel pained by my thirst, just urged on like an instinct." He whispers so only Alice can hear, as he leans his head back against the tree.

"It's exhilarating, as long as you think you can control yourself, then we should test it out." Alice smiles mischievously up at him.

Ezekiel's grip tightens on her waist, narrowing his eyes at her, "You're plotting something, what is it?"

"Just to give one of our female companion's a little scratch, which would you prefer?" Alice says wriggling out of his grasp.

Rani stands up, having been listening on the conversation, "You mean to have one of us test if he can restrain his hunger, when neither of you are certain he can?"

"It is the best way, for him to smell fresh blood. How do you think he'll fare in the capital smelling all of the people on their time of the month?"

Saint Rani pauses, "How do yo-"

Raphael cuts her off, "Can you assure us that you will stop him if he does lose control, and attack the individual?"

Alice sighs, pouting out her lips, "If you're concerned about that then he can always order me to stop him from killing any of you for the duration of this test?"

Isaac stands up stretching out, "Why exactly does it need to be one of the women?" He asks out of curiosity.

Ezekiel's eyes snap open, "Isaac, drinking blood is intimate, not to mention arousing." He raises an eyebrow, "I'd rather not experience that with another male, and it works both ways."

"Ahem," Isaac clears his throat looking away from Ezekiel, "I can see why that would be an issue..." he trails off into an awkward silence that fills the group.

Alice pulls Ezekiel by the hand to his feet, "Pick which one you'd like to do the test with, Keep in mind the stronger their mana and spirit energy the more alluring it will be."

Ezekiel pauses, his eyes flitting between Isabella and Rani. His nose twitching against their scents, before he breathes deeply. "Saint Rani, if you don't mind? Your spirit energy rivals Isabella, but your mana core is at the 4th stage..." He lowers his eyebrows in confusion, as he looks at Alice, "Why can I tell what her mana core is just from her scent?"

Alice simply raises an eyebrow, "You should be able to differentiate what will be most beneficial to feed from by scent fairly easily. It's just another instinctive trait of a Vampire." Alice says with a shrug, turning she looks at Rani expectantly.

Rani looks away, tugging the hem of her Saint's robes. "I-I um, Are you sure?" She mumbles staring down between her feet.

"What's this?" Alice appears behind Saint Rani, her fingers pulling her chin to look at her over her shoulder, "The pure Saint of the Church seems embarrassed, such innocence." Alice breathes in deeply, as she trails her hand from her chin and over her shoulder. Her sharpened nail slicing a small cut on her clavicle.

The gentle spring breeze flows through the clearing, carrying the sweet aroma of the forest. Hidden among the scent of damp grass, and the fragrance of flowers, an powerful blood-scent trails to Ezekiel. As he breathes in through his nose, he stands rigidly. Blood seeps from two small holes in his lower lips as he holds his jaw closed.

"You must breath it in, if you wish to test your Tolerance, Master." Alice say's, her hand on the small of Rani's back slowly guiding her forward.

Raphael turns to the other's, "get inside the dome, we should put some distance. We're not sure how much his powers have changed since coming here yet." he motions the others to move into the dome like structure, noting the conflicted look on Isaac's face he adds, "We'll be safer in here, as you are now this is all we can do for him."

"It's just, I've never seen him show any interest, at least not like this.." Isaac says slowly, turning he does as Raphael advises, gently pulling his sister along by her hand. "Let's go."

"Are you afraid?" Ezekiel asks, his eyes searching Rani's face, as he slowly breathes in.

Alice pauses guiding Rani forward, as she comes to a halt for a brief moment. Saint Rani raises her gaze from the ground. "I could never fear you. This may sound odd to say, having only known you for these few short months. However, you've always proven yourself capable of controlling yourself. Weather it be hiding your emotions from your face, or in the minute control you have over the elements, and your body." Rani gently grasps Alice's hand moving it from her body and proceeds to slowly step forward. "From the day you were summoned, others have put their full faith in your group. But that was from a sense of guilt at their actions from tearing you from your homes." Rani raises her hand to her sternum, placing it flat. "I observed, I learned as much as you'd let me see. Day after Day, and I can say with full confidence you've earned the full weight of my respect, and my trust."

"Will that remain so, no matter what I've become?" Ezekiel asks, a toothy smile on his face, "I consumed the remains of The Queen of Gluttony," He places a hand on his forehead, slowly pushing the hair from his face. "Do you know what that means?" Ezekiel watches Rani as she continues walking towards him, with her small slow leisure steps.

"Is that suppose to deter me? The church may worship the god's and dislike the demon kings due to their conflict with the gods, but I'm a mere mortal. Their issues are their own. Am I to turn away, to leave you behind due to a change in your race? Am I suppose to hate you because of a power you were gifted due to the whim of some divinity?" Rani stops a walking, her gaze locked with Ezekiel's as she looks up at him. "Have I ever shown myself to be as shallow as that?"

The trembling in Ezekiel's jaw, and hands as his gaze is locked on the slight cut on her neck. "You really shouldn't be this close." His voice comes out quietly, as he backs away. His jaw clenches as Rani continues after him step for step.

With a smile she brushes her hair behind her ear tilting her head at him quizzically. "After making me say all of those things, you're going to run away?"
