Chapter 3 - Faceless 2

Yvonne smiled "Xavier.." she drawled on his name sipping from her wine glass. "I'm Yvonne. Yvonne..." she had thought it didn't hurt to give her real name. It wasn't like her name was of a limited edition or something. It would take a lot for anyone to track someone down with just their first name but then, she wasn't sure if it was the same thing with her last name too. ".... just Yvonne". she ended, gulping down even more of the wine.

" Ouch. I feel cheated. I told you my full name but you ain't telling me yours".

It wasn't that Xavier really cared. Due to his popularity across the country, he was surprised she didn't know him. He couldn't remember when last he had moved around freely without coming across a fan. Sometimes, they were nice and calm, and sometimes, he was unlucky to meet delusional ones. Since he was on a mask, he didn't expect her to recognize him but then, he had mentioned his full name, and most times, he had heard people he wasn't so familiar with say they recognized his voice

Looking at her again, he didn't think she was pretending and if she was, she is so good at it. If everyone in this country was similar to her, he would probably have no fans, talk less of a fan club.

"I never asked for your full name. You deemed it fit to tell me" Yvonne laughed, enjoying her wine and at the same time, the look on his face. It looked like he had his face scrunched up. She drowned the rest of the drink and signaled to the bartender for another.

"You got me there. Lesson learnt" he laughed. "You have a beautiful name" he added, and for a second or so, they were lost in each other's eye.

Although she couldn't see his face, Yvonne was yearning to. He had ocean blue eyes that you would surely get lost looking into. It was really pleasing to look at.

"Here's your drink, ma'am". the bartender slipped the drink to her, looking at them both. His voice brought them out of their reverie, not knowing he had interrupted something.

" Ouch. My bad" his voice had startled Yvonne. she ended up spilling the drink on herself. Not only did it stain the shirt, but the liquid also made the material cling to her body like a second skin.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry ma'am" the bartender repeated over and over, bowing at the same time.

"Wait, isn't that your fourth drink or something?" Xavier asked

"It's okay cutie, I hold my alcohol very well" she smiled goofily at Xavier then faced the bartender, "It's not your fault in any way. I should find something to change into. her voice came out slurred

Xavier felt embarrassed as his check fanned up. She only called him cutie and he was feeling funny. He didn't understand himself.

Looking at Yvonne, he could see she was drunk. So much for holding alcohol well. This was bad for him. He wouldn't want to be stuck with a drunk, shivering stranger. He took off the jacket on him, and draped it over her shoulder, leaving him in a long-sleeved t-shirt

"Manage this before you find anything to change into," he said to her, slightly raising the voice so she could hear him over the blaring speakers.

"Oh. Thank you. I feel like... umm... what is it called? Oh yes. A damsel in distress, and you'd be... uh..a gentleman....Or is it a knight? Hmm...A knight in shining armor" She said, her voice becoming more slurry.

Yvonne tried to stand up but almost fell if not for Xavier's timely grabbing of her. Her feet wobbled, and she felt like the world was spinning around her.

"It's an earthquake" she shrieked, clinging to him. "The world is spinning and my legs are quivering. I am not ready to die yet. I don't want to"

Xavier laughed "You are drunk Yvonne. There's no earthquake anywhere. It's all in your head. Why did you drink so much when you can't handle much alcohol?" He held her firmly in place, preventing her from swinging or falling.

"I don't know. I was planning to do something but right now, I feel like crap. I think I am gonna throw up" she giggled, still clinging to him.

"This won't do. Let's go to the restroom".

Yvonne smiled at him, looking into his eye "Let's do that"

Stepping into the restroom's corridor, they saw couples standing in twos groping each other. Xavier led her to one of the empty female restrooms and took the jacket off her body. The cold hit Yvonne and she snugged herself closer to him.

"It's cold" she shivered. Taking a step back, she got out of his arm and puked into the hand basin. She coughed, puking even more and Xavier gently placed his hand on her back, urging her to let it all out.

"You shouldn't drink like that, especially when you're alone. I don't wish to sound like a sexist, but it's risky, especially for a female.

Yvonne rinsed her face and mouth and turned to face Xavier. Her eyes were focused on his lips and she angled her face. Xavier felt his breath quicken and his palms sweaty, but as her face drew closer, she mumbled some incoherent words and passed out on his shoulder.

Xavier released a breath he wasn't aware he was holding and let out a confused sigh. What should he do? He was stranded with a stranger who passed out on his shoulder. He had no idea about what to do but at least, he knew well to lead her out of the restroom and finally outside the club.

Xavier opened the passenger's door and help her to sit gently. He got her legs too in and bent over her to release the chair so she could lay on the chair. He thought against taking off her mask. Since she was unconscious, Xavier felt like he would be intruding on her privacy so he decided to check her phone if he could get in touch with anyone and hopefully, the friend she mentioned.

As if on a cue, her phone beeped and he picked it up from her pocket. It was an alarm. He swiped it, and thankfully, there was no password.

Xavier opened the call and noticed there have been only one regular caller, it was either incoming or outgoing. He clicked on the dial button but it rang for a while but no one picked up. He re-tried it a few times but got no response.

Xavier had no choice, he was responsible for her. At least, for the rest of the night. He knew he had tried his best as he got into the driver's seat of the car and drove off into the night.
