"Ugh" Yvonne groaned again and rolled her eyes without opening them. Surely, she had enough to drink the night before and it was messing with her head. She was hungover.
Something felt weird though, but she couldn't place her hand on it. She felt like she was somewhere away from where she calls home, which was in reality, nothing but an empty house.
Her body told her it was past time to get up, but she decided to keep laying as she was since she hasn't heard her alarm go off. But then she was catching a cold, and even though she didn't remember turning the air conditioning on, she tried reaching out to the bedside table for its control.
Rolling towards the edge of the bed, she put her hand out and didn't feel the side table. Okay, that was totally out of it and it indicated something was wrong because she never rearranged her room and this got her bolting up opening her eyes wide immediately.
'Where am I?' she asked herself and obviously, had no answers. She had no idea how she got here but seeing how spacious, clean and beautiful the room was, she tried thinking positively. But it was a waste as her hangover only reminded her of how much she had drunk the night before.
'Perhaps Muri brought them to her boyfriend's house' she thought, totally forgetting about meeting Xavier at that moment. Since she was the only human in the room, she figured she'd better open the door to hear the tales of the night before as her brain was blank about the events.
Groaning with her right hand on her head, she dropped her legs to the edge of the bed and slipped her legs into the flip-flop laying there. Then, she sat properly and looked around the room.
The room arrangement told her the owner was sure to care about appearances. It screamed aesthetic as the colors blended and every other thing appeared to be in their rightful places.
After getting accustomed to sitting, she stood up and trudged toward the vanity tables. On it was a glass cup filled with some liquid, and beside the liquid, was a note
"Here's some ginger tea for your hangover. You can make use of the bathroom to freshen up and select fresh wear in the closet.
I'd be waiting downstairs".
Ugh. How much she hated the ginger scent. It has always had a way of making her feel uncomfortable, but she had to take it because she had drunk. So she picked up the glass and tried drinking it all while holding her breath. However, it tasted sweet, and when she released her breath, its scent was nice too. She made a mental note to ask how it was done.
The next thing she did was open the closet. Just like hers, it was a walk-in and was very huge at it, but, it was scanty. There were just a few pieces of clothing which included male and female wear. Most of them still had their tags on and didn't look like they had ever been worn. She couldn't believe Muri had this much of clothes at Jaydens'. She smiled, not blaming Muri for always being on about him. Was she planning to move in with him or something?
Holding it by its hanger, she put one dress on her body. It was of knee length and gray and she loved its reflection in the standing mirror. It looked good, but she was mortified at her reflection. The mascara from the day before was smeared all over her face. It looked like she cried, but she didn't remember crying, nor did she remember any reason for her to cry. Instead of brooding over that, she opened a drawer containing sets of undies still in their packs, she took one of those too walked into the bathroom
Getting into the bathroom, Yvonne picked a new toothbrush and squeezed out toothpaste on it. It tasted of mint, just like she loved it. Standing before the mirror, she watched the mirror as she brushed her teeth, and afterward, she rinsed the toothbrush and her mouth. Then, she proceeded to strip her clothes off and stepped into the jacuzzi.
Putting the bathing gloves on, she turned the warm water on and got into the shower. Feeling the water run on her body was euphoric as they seem to massage her bones and muscles. Then she proceeded to wash her body. She spent a little over 30 minutes in the washroom, including the time she used to rub lotions. It was the highest she had spent in a while. She decided to take her time since she would be going to work in Muri's company.
It, however, didn't take her long to get dressed. She used her pieces of jewelry and shoes from the day before after which she put the clothes in an empty plastic bag she found in I corner of the room. By now, she was feeling much better than when she woke, and the day was brighter in some unexplainable way. She stepped out and took the flight of stairs downstairs. She stopped at intervals to admire the interior and couldn't help but agree the set was close to perfect. Her stomach rumbled, reminding her of the need to find the kitchen before anything.
" Muri?" she called. Her voice came out low, almost in a whisper. The ground floor looked amazing too but the kitchen first. She tried clearing her throat and calling again when she heard rumbles from a corner and decided to take a peak. Who knows, it could be the kitchen.
A figure was behind the breakfast table setting the dishes. She could deduce it was a male and he was facing her, but his face was blurry as the ray of light from the window was blinding her.
"Oh. You're up. Did you sleep well?"
Yvonne stepped closer and his face was clear. His voice sounded familiar in some way, but she wasn't sure she recognized him. She was still checking out his features when he knocked on the table and she remembered she hadn't given a reply to his question.
"Yes. I did, thank you" she paused and eyed him again. Stylishly. Not wanting him to realize it.
Xavier paused and placed both hands on his waist "Do you have anything to say? You've been staring for some minutes now.
Yvonne cleared her throat for the nth time since she got into the kitchen. She wanted to ask if she was supposed to know him and how he knew her. She wanted to ask after Muri too, but she was confused about how to ask in a way that wouldn't sound annoying.
" I never thought you would be this quiet" Xavier broke the awkward silence once again and Yvonne raised her brow surprised. Who are you, handsome stranger?
"Well, this handsome stranger is, Xavier. Does the name ring a bell? We met at faceless yesterday." Seeing the look of surprise ok her face after he answered her question, he added " I don't read minds. Your question just happened to be a little loud.
Yvonne mouthed an 'Oh'. Her memories from the night before came in flashes. She remembered meeting Xavier, which happened to be the stranger but she couldn't remember much after. She should have known better not to drink as her alcohol tolerance was low. Yvonne laughed at herself for thinking she could go all the way down with a stranger. She could only hope she didn't cause the stranger trouble. Nevertheless, she decided to apologize.
"I'm sorry about yesterday. I shouldn't have gotten drunk and caused you trouble." she slightly bowed and the plastic bag in her hands swung around her.
"It's all in the past now, right" he flashed her a warming smile.
The table Xavier had set looked tantalizing, but Yvonne thought it was best for her to leave immediately. She had done enough to last her a year. She was just about to say her goodbyes when Xavier cut her off.
"All set. Let's eat and I hope the food is to your taste" he motioned for her to seat. But the look on her face made him add " Don't tell me you were planning to leave".
"I... actually, I wanted to leave, If you don't mind. Plus, I'm not hungry." However, her stomach said otherwise as it took that perfect time to rumble
"Well, I do mind, and your stomach is saying otherwise. Didn't you learn not to skip breakfast?"
Yvonne bit her lower lip and sat on the opposite side of Xavier. He was just being nice and it wouldn't hurt to get some help, right?
"Thanks for the food" she half whispered, picking her cutlery.
"Bon appetite" he replied
