We ended the conversation there, the sun was setting and the sky was growing dark that my dad came back to check on us. Elliot still didn’t say much as we talked before he left again and by this point, I can see point out the Big Dipper in the sky. This helped lighten our mood as I found the North Star and helped Elliot see it from where he was sitting.
“I think you can see the stars clearer if we go hiking at the mountain,” he tells me as he puts his legs on top of my lap.
“You're going to dirty my pants,” I said, patting his legs off. “And that is your worst idea if you think we’re going there at night.”
“It’s fine and my shoes are clean,” he said as he kept them there.
I smiled, glancing over at him, “Oh please, these are the same shoes you wore when we went hiking.” I said.
“It’s because these are my favorite shoes.” He said as he put his foot down and moved his chair closer to me to reach for my hand again. “Jason got it for me.”
