"Um, do you honestly think that that murder had nothing to do with the Evil Enchantress?" asked Kaitlin.
She and Jackie were sitting back lazily on two armchairs in the first floor of her house. They had been talking over the murder again and again after the police had asked Kaitlin a million questions. Emerson was lazily sitting on Jackie's lap, thumping his tail against her legs every now or then.
"I don't know," muttered Jackie. "when I got there, I also smelled the dark magic, but…"
"We should stop talking about this, it's giving me a headache." Kaitlin yawned and stood up, "Let's look for a dress to wear tomorrow."
"Oh yes please, it'll get our mind off things." Jackie stood up and dropped Emerson carefully on the floor.
The two mermaid friends strode out of the living room and entered the gigantic glass walk in closet. Emerson was trotting along behind them. Jackie laughed and sighed, "You're too rich for your own good."
"Shut up," replied Kaitlin. She walked to the back wall of her closet and started rifling through all the dresses impatiently. "Come on Jackie."
Jackie walked over to where Kaitlin was, "I'm going to look up how fancy this event is going to be." She pulled out her phone from her back pocket and began typing.
"Good idea," remarked Kaitlyn as she surveyed her dresses.
"My god," Jackie said slowly. She turned her phone so Kaitlyn could see the screen, "Look."
The screen showed a group photo taken of attendees at the masquerade ball. The ladies were dressed in full length gowns, each one more extreme than the next. Jewels upon satin upon lace.
The men were dressed in bedazzled tuxedoes and some were sporting long capes, reaching the floor.
"Talk about doing too much," Kaitlyn said as she furrowed her eyebrows. "I guess we'll have to pick out something just as fancy."
Jackie nodded in agreement. "What color are you aiming for?" asked Jackie.
Kaitlin looked thoughtfully at the rows and rows of designer dresses. "I want to find a lacy dress, with lots and lots of patterns, maybe black or purple. It is a Masquerade Ball after all."
"True."
"What about you?"
Jackie scanned the dresses and replied, "Dark blue, not too fancy, maybe just a few folds of material at the bottom. No lace though." She added as an afterthought.
Kaitlin looked through all the gowns and dresses looking for one that she hadn't worn yet and couldn't find anything. Sighing, she turned to Jackie who had three dresses in her hands.
"Wow, you found a lot," she remarked.
"No, I only found two, the others weren't blue or had lace, but this one is for you, you would look amazing in it." Jackie handed a black laced dress to Kaitlin.
Kaitlin held the dress and looked it over, "I'm going to put it on." Kaitlin walked over to the sofa and began changing from her shirt and shorts to this beautiful dress.
"Which one should I wear?" asked Jackie, she was motioning towards the two dresses she was holding. The one in her left hand was sapphire blue, tight-fitting, fanning out at the bottom where it branched into a foot of train behind, a simple mermaid dress. The top of the dress was sleeveless and embellished with a ring of blue topaz.
The dress Jackie was holding in her right hand was a midnight blue satin with ripples of fabric fanning out from the top to bottom in a rotating circle, all the way to the back where it led to a 3 and a half feet train. It was simple yet stunning with a slight twist of satin near the top of the gown.
Kaitlin had just finished zipping up her gown she was trying on and as she turned around, Jackie gasped. "Oh wow, that dress is so perfect on you!"
Kaitlin walked over to one of the floor length mirrors and admired the dress.
It was exactly as she had wanted it to be, lacy, black, and diamond embellished. It was also sleeveless with a mini branch of fabric spreading out from the midriff of the dress around her waist and ending only to about 4 inches. Then spreading out underneath was the long black sheen of silk reaching to the ground with a mini train behind. Little ruffles of fabric adorned the bottom with a bit of lace. The whole dress was set off with 100 black and white diamonds.
Kaitlin pulled a tag out and read aloud, "This dress was created by Debbie Wingham, I love her dresses, and it is estimated at 5.5 million dollars, weighing 29 pounds. I love this dress, I'm wearing this!"
Jackie nodded and went over to the mirror as well, "Which one should I try on?"
Kaitlin looked at the two dresses Jackie was holding and examining both carefully, she pointed at the midnight blue corset dress, "that one of course."
Jackie laughed and went to change. After she put the dress of carefully, she strode over to the mirror again in a dramatic fashion walk and struck a pose in front of the mirror.
"Oh my fucking God!" She exclaimed, "This dress is so elegant."
"Now let's find a mask and shoes," Kaitlin almost burst with excitement and ran over to where she kept all her many different shoes. She had so many heels and wedges that they both took an even longer time, matching the shoes with their dresses.
"Oh, this one will match the blue so well, except if they're both blue, it wouldn't look good," muttered Jackie to herself.
Kaitlin was contemplating on pumps or wedges, while Jackie flat out said no wedges.
After what seemed like half an hour, Kaitlin decided on a pair of black slender heels lined with silver and each set with a few diamonds.
She turned to Jackie and realized that she had organized about ten different pairs of heels in front of her and was trying them on for stableness. She put on a pair of glittering black super high heels and fell over immediately.
"You might want to aim for something shorter," chuckled Kaitlin. Her shoes were only three inches high.
Jackie nodded in reply and continued muttering to herself. Finally, she chose a pair of nude silver shade heels with a blue gemstone on each shoe. "Found one!"
Kaitlin laughed and continued to look for masks, "I thought I had masks, looks like they're not here."
"We could just go buy our masks, look, it's only 7 o'clock, the mall is still open." Said Jackie, she put on her heels and started to exit the closet.
Kaitlin nodded then started screaming with laughter. "What?" asked a bewildered Jackie.
"Are you planning to wear that whole outfit to go shopping?"
"Oh, right," exclaimed Jackie, laughing along. "Let's change, then go."

"Come one, I already apologized multiple times, princess."
Tiffany ignored Klystron, she looked out at the passing blurs of cars in the city. They were once again driving, in the city having left Klystron's huge mansion in the middle of nowhere.
"Where are we going?" asked Tiffany.
Klystron smirked and slowed the car down as they neared the center of the huge city, a couple miles down from the school.
"We're going to get you an outfit for the Masquerade."
