Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

CAW!

CAW!

CAW!

Slowly the girl lying on the forest floor opened her eyes, allowing her eyes to adjust to the bright August light shining gently through trees in the clearing. She sat up and brushed the leaves and out of her braided hair and off her back. She glared at the offending bird as she reached over to grab a curious contraption that was laying by her side.

The body of the thing was long and narrow with the front end being thick and square tapering slightly and flattening out as it reached the back end. The head was made out of a flat piece of bowed wood that curved slightly inward with a taut string the spanned between each end. The string was pulled back tight locked in by a clasp slightly behind two pieces of hard tubing that ran parallel with the body making a sort of channel. In the channel was a pencil. That's it, a simple wooden pencil.

Picking it up she put it in her lap as the watch no her wrist played a soft melody. She pushed the button that had the sticker of a phone attached to it.

"Hello."

"Nexus, it's time to come back home sweetheart, you've been out in those woods for a while and we have you appointment to leave for in an hour. Ok?"

"Ok mother. I'll start heading back now." The girl said finally standing up.

She pushed the button again and turned around. She walked to the edge of the clearing, stopped and turned her body back at the waist. She raised her homemade crossbow, fired once, and continued walking, not bothering to look back when she heard the barley audible sound of the bird as it hit the ground with a #2 pencil sticking out of it's side. Dead before it even hit the ground
