Chapter 23 - Adoption

When Thirteen lay motionlessly on the bed, Ye Xing called out a few times to confirm her condition before using a hairdryer to dry her hair carefully.

After all this was done, the lunch break was almost over.

Of course, this was a welfare institute, so there were not very strict standards for work and rest.

However, in order to ensure that these children would be useful in society later on, they would usually have handicraft classes after the lunch break. There would be volunteers who would teach them how to make some small things as a form of exercise.

The welfare institute also had the same responsibilities as a kindergarten, allowing them to have a general understanding of things before going to school.

Usually, Ye Xing's favourite class was handicraft class. Her skills were very good, and she would be praised by Mother Chen every time.

Receiving praise was always something that made people happy.

However, she could not do it today. She had not gone to visit the other children yet.

Ye Xing knew the answer to He Yang's question.

Why did only half of the twenty or so children come over for dinner?

That was because the other half of the children were born with disabilities.

It was inconvenient for them to move around, so their living area was separated from the other children.

This was to prevent them from feeling uncomfortable when they saw other children running around.

In fact, children can be really straightforward.

Their thoughts were pure, so If they said you were ugly, then they were probably telling the truth.

Although it was the truth, it was really hurtful.

There were many times when they spoke without thinking and said whatever they wanted.

After all, if they were grown upm they would care about other people's emotions.

These disabled children might be bullied by other children.

It was instinctive to use other people's physical flaws as an attack when one was angry.

Therefore, the separation of the two living areas was a form of protection.

Of course, Ye Xing would often bring people over to chat and play with them.

Since they did not spend much time together, there were not many instances of conflict.

For example, Baozi was quite popular among the children with disabilities.

Even though he was missing a few fingers, it did not affect his normal activities.

Therefore, when Baozi came over, he could relate with them. Additionally, Baozi was quite eloquent, he would also teach them how to play games and tell them what interesting things had happened in the yard.

Of course, even though these children were disabled, they were not all bedridden.

What they could not stand the most was the disgust of the other children and the sympathy of the adults.

There was also a television here, but that did not stop them from chatting with Ye Xing or Baozi.

Even if it was something that they all knew.

Baozi was welcomed because he was one of them while Ye Xing was welcomed because she never looked at them strangely.

"Sister Yun, is it past their nap time?"

Sister Shuran was in charge of the healthy children, while Sister Yun was in charge of taking care of the disabled children.

Of course, there were a lot more staff here, there were six nurses alone.

Otherwise, Sister Yun would not be able to handle it all on her own.

Other than Sister Yun, there was also Mother Zheng, who was also the manager of this place. The two of them would be in charge of the shift change.

"It's you Ye Xing, you came a little late today. But they should be up by now. If you have time, you can call them out."

Ye Xing came almost every day. Sister Yun was used to it and did not treat her as a stranger.

"Yes," Ye Xing replied happily. Just as she was about to leave, Sister Yun stopped her.

"Oh right, wait a minute. I almost forgot. I have something to tell you."

Ye Xing looked at her with confusion. Sister Yun pulled her hand and sat down on the sofa. She hesitated for a moment, as if she was considering how to speak.

"Um, Ye Xing, what do you think of being adopted now?"

"Adopted? I think it's great." Ye Xing did not understand why Sister Yun would ask her this question.

"Do you really think so? After all, if you're adopted, you might not be very happy. They're not your biological parents, it's unlikely that they'll love you sincerely. Of course, Sister Yun did not mean that there were no good people in this world, but this is like opening a mystery box. Do you know what a mystery box is?"

Ye Xing nodded, it's like placing some small toys in a box, before opening it, no one knew what would be inside.

Sister Yun said with a slightly serious tone, "It's the same as being adopted. You'll never know whether your adopted parents will treat you well or not."
