"Henry, I don't think this is a good idea! We know next to nothing about this prince! How can I marry my only child off to some- some stranger so that we don't go to war!?"
"Now, Ell. We are not prepared to go to war with the Mefoy. Suppose we do, we will be wiped out for sure. Calm down, and we'll send our terms back."
Amorie overhears this conversation. With wide eyes, she runs to her room and slams the door. In front of her stands a floor-length mirror. She looks at herself. Her hair flowing undone from her braid is orange like the rising sun. Her eyes are as green as emeralds. The dress she's wearing is blue like the ocean, floor-length and fitted. Her body type is an hourglass; her heart-shaped face has freckles over her small nose. She sighs and blows a stray strand of hair out of her face.
"Oh, what I wouldn't give to not be a princess right now." Sitting down she ponders what will happen to her people if she doesn't go through with the alliance. There's a soft knock at the door.
"Amorie, can I come in?" It was her best friend Dax.
"Yeah, you can." She mumbles as the door opens, and he walks in. He's tall and lean. His dirty blonde is a mess like he just rolled out of bed. His crystal blue eyes stare at her green ones.
"Is everything alright?" He asks, concerned. Amorie nods then shakes her head. "Well, which is it? Yes or no?"
"No, I might have to marry a stranger to form an alliance and stop a war. I don't want to." Her eyes tear up, and she covers her face. "Dax, what am I to do? I know it's my duty to preserve my people."
Dax gently grabs her hand and looks into her eyes.
"Well, I think that you should do what you think is best, " Dax hesitates, brows furrowed and nose scrunched. "I also think that you should go through with it to save your people."
Amorie gazes up at him, anger rising in her chest. She yanks her hand out of his grasp,
"How could you say that?! I know how you feel! I know that you don't want me to go through with this, I-I..." She starts to trail off. Dax can see a silver tear slowly make its way down her cheek. His gaze softens as he stands up and pulls her into an embrace.
They stand there hugging for a little while; a few sniffles come from Amorie as she silently cries. She looks up and meets Dax's eyes as she slowly pulls away from the comforting hug.
She lifts her hand to her face, quickly wiping away the tears and putting on a weak smile. Dax winks back at her, making her have a genuine smile, but it only lasted for a second before her burdens as a princess overwhelmed her mind. Amorie sat down on her bed, looking longingly out her window.
"Hey. I know that this is hard, but just remember that I will always be here for you.." He sat beside her, giving her a side hug. "Always."
She leans into the hug and rests her head on his shoulder. A quiet knock startled her, and she arose from her bed saying,
"You may enter." She was surprised to see her mother standing in the doorway with a small letter in her hand.
"Darling, these are the terms the king of Regnum Caelorum sent, so we don't go to war, " The yellowed envelope was torn open. "I thought you would like to see it for yourself." She hands Amorie the envelope. She cautiously pulls out the yellow paper that looks like someone has cried on it. Amorie unfolds the parchment carefully
