Chapter 3 - Chapter 2- Repudiation

Dear Wyvernborns,

If this were under any other circumstances, I would be thrilled! But what has to be done has to be done. It is my duty as a king to provide for my people and the kingdom. This alliance will strengthen both our kingdoms and our people. I do believe that my terms are reasonable.

-Princess Amorie will marry the prince of Regnum Caelorum, Ewan

-We will both sign a peace treaty and follow the guidelines of that treaty

-Amorie will come live in Regnum Caelorum

King Sebastian of Regnum Caelorum

Amorie's eyes widen, her mouth is agape. Taking a sharp breath, she looks up from the letter. She opens her mouth as if to say something but thought better of it.

"Darling, are you alright?" Her mother asked.

Amorie just stares at the wall, lost in thought. She knew that it was coming, but it just became real, and she wasn't prepared for that. Snapping out of her trance, she finds Dax and her mother looking at her brows upturned.

"What? Why are you looking at me like that?" She inquires. Her mother goes to open the door.

"We'll leave you to make a decision. Sometimes alone time helps with making life-changing choices." With that, Amorie's mother leaves, orange hair flowing behind her as her heels clicking fades. Dax turns to Amorie and gives a slight nod, then leaves the room as well.

She is alone in her spacious bedroom.

Flopping on her queen-sized bed, she stares at the ceiling, lost in thought.

"Well, what are the pros and cons?" she mumbles to herself.

'Pro: my people will be safe.

'Con: I have to marry someone I don't know anything about.

'Pro: people won't have to die.

'Con: Ewan is a prince to a sworn enemy of my people for thousands of years.

'Pro: our people would-be allies.

'On the other hand, I like Dax, and if I marry Ewan, I can't be with him. Ugh, this is difficult!" She huffs and brushes her hair out of her face. Sitting up, she starts to undo the braid and let her hair fall. She gets up and strides to her vanity. Grabbing her hairbrush, she brushes her waist-length hair.

"Maybe I should give up on love and do my duty as a princess." She looks into the glass and sighs. "Or maybe I'm just not cut out to be a princess." Pushing the golden velvet chair back, she stands up and walks over to her closet. Then an idea struck.

"What if, for just one night, I go out into the town as a commoner?!" This would be a way to get away from it all. She does a sight jump in place at the idea. Amorie grabs a dull brown casual dress- adorned with flowers along the bottom of the hem. She also retrieves her blue cape.

"Now, all I have to do is get out of the palace." She looks around, feeling the walls for the servant's hallway. She knows it is somewhere in here.

"Ah-ha! Found it!" She exclaims, pushing the door loose and sliding it to the left. Entering the dusty hall, she finds a staircase leading downwards. "How do I know where to go?" She ponders aloud.

After several failed turns that led her back to where she started, she stomps her foot on the ground and groans. "Ugh, it's pointless! This place is a maze. I can't figure out how to get out of here!" Just then, she heard someone coming from the left.

"Is someone there?" The other person calls. Amorie freezes- if she gets found here, she could be in huge trouble!

"Uhm, yes, I seem to have lost my way. I can't remember the way to leave the castle," She says sheepishly, looking at the cobbled ground.

"Oh, are you a new servant?" Servant? Oh, the clothes!

"Y-yes, I am. Sorry to bother you, but could you possibly show me out?" The older woman nods and makes a hand motion to follow her.

After following the old woman, Amorie thanks her, and sets off to see the town.

She starts at the bakery, drawn in by the aroma of warm bread and fritters—a bell dings when she opens the door.

"Hello, do you have anything in mind that you would like to buy?" The baker asks.

"Um, no, sorry, I'm just looking." He nods and goes back to needing the dough.

Amorie's eyes widen at the various pastries- she's never seen so many before.

After looking around for a while, she exits and moves on to the town center. There's an exquisite water fountain surrounding the area with tall, beautiful cherry trees. Mouth agape, she wanders around, taking it all in.

She finds a patch of wyvern pansies and crouches down to smell them. Their white petals have hints of blue, purple, and pink in them. They were gorgeous- no wonder they were the kingdom's favorite flower.

She roams around for a while, just enjoying looking at everything.

Suddenly, someone comes from behind her and puts a hand over her mouth to stifle her yelp of shock.

"Don't make a sound or any sudden movements, your highness." The stranger says in a low, raspy voice. She doesn't do anything to acknowledge that he said something
