"Lady Cordelia's health is serious and I am here to take the medicine." She didn't let him complete his sentence as she told him with a straight face.
Gerald's eyes travelled down to her hands. They were balled into tight fists giving away the turmoil of emotions inside her.
He wanted to say something but couldn't muster up the courage, so he only nodded his head.
"Come."
She followed him to the cottage but stopped outside it. Gerald noticed that, and for some reason, her action irritated him.
"What happened?"
"I will wait here." She said in a low voice.
Gerald noticed how she still tried avoiding his gaze. His jaw ticked as he fisted his hands behind his back.
"If you want the medicine then come inside and get it." He declared.
That made Bertha snap her head in his way. "Are you blackmailing me?"
Gerald crossed his arms over his chest. "If that works."
