Chapter 8 - Chapter 7

She wasn't sure what happened after she attacked that poor butcher inside the slaughterhouse. The last thing she recalled was trying to escape from the slaughter. She wasn't even sure how she did it, or how many she could've hurt. Everything turned dark after what she did to the poor man.

The moment her consciousness went back, she was already climbing back into her window. The sun was already peeping from the horizon and the dark gray night sky was slowly fading away in favor of the brighter blue of the day.

Her body automatically went into autopilot and immediately snuck back into her room. She crawled on the floor for a few minutes before feeling her muscles wriggling from under her skin. Her long nails slowly retracted back to normal. Her slender, bony fingers began to go back to normal. She felt her jaw healing and fitting back into her skull. Her muscles moved back in their places while Anna bit her lip in pain as her body adjusted back to her normal form.

Rico was still sleeping. His back was peeled and raw. Anna wasn't sure what to do with it. She couldn't dare herself to approach him. She's not sure how. She simply stared at him from a distance while holding back the welling tears in her eyes.

She stared at him for another minute when she noticed something. Rico wasn't moving anymore. Anna suddenly felt a cold chill running down her spine. Her mouth twitched as she could barely speak out a word.

Her hands were cold, and her knees felt like jelly. Her throat, parched as she tried composing herself, trying not to breakdown.

"B-babe." The words came out muffled from her mouth. "B-babe?" She shook him once again.

He was unresponsive. Tears were already flowing down her eyes as she shook him some more. When that didn't work, she finally flipped him around and was surprised with what she saw. Rico's face was no longer there. All that was left was a heap of rotting flesh and his pale white bone.

Anna immediately stood up from the bed and began to back away from her boyfriend's corpse. Just as she was taking a step back, she bumped something from behind. She froze knowing that there was no one else inside her house but her and Rico.

Anna could hear a beastly growl right behind her. She felt the warm and sticky breath of the towering person behind her. She froze as dread overwhelmed her. Without any hesitation, she slowly turned around and saw her grotesque monstrous self with razor sharp teeth hunching behind her.

Before she could utter a word, the monster grabbed her by her arms, lifted her and was about to bite her head off.

She woke up screaming and shaking uncontrollably on the floor. Rico stood up from his bed, looking all over for her.

"Babe?!" Rico jumped into the other side of the bed as he saw her shaking violently, naked on the floor.

As Rico was about to touch her, she heard the beast inside her growl.

"Don't touch me!" She pushed him away and throwing him several feet to the floor.

"Not this again, babe." He sighed. "I-I've told you already—"

"Go away!" She grumbled in a monstrous growl.

Rico's eyes widened. The voice that blurted out of her wasn't hers. It was the voice of the sinister monster living inside of her. She covered her mouth and immediately stood up. Without saying a word, she immediately picked up her clothes and went inside the bathroom to clean herself.

Anna had no time to cry for another hour. She needed an intervention as soon possible. She took a shower and got dressed. She took her phone and hurriedly booked a car. She needed to go to that doctor as soon as possible.

Rico was still on the bed, speechless and unmoving. She wanted to hug him and try to explain to him what was really going on, but that wasn't the right time yet. She needed to understand that for herself first before she could explain it to him.

She had no time to clean up her messy room. She picked up her keys, then stormed out of her apartment. She booked herself a car before going to Dr. Ilustrado's clinic.

The car took around 10 minutes to arrive. Anna decided to pin her location a few blocks away from her apartment to avoid Rico from following her. As she rode the car, she felt anxious and at the same time relieved as she could now speak confidently with someone about her condition. The Metro traffic was at its height on this day. The swarming vehicles and waves of crossing pedestrians just made it worse. It took her two hours to reach her destination. Along the way she scrolled on her phone and saw the multitude of messages from her supervisor yesterday, asking her to pick up the phone.

It was her shift yesterday, and obviously, she skipped it. She wanted to give her manager a good reason for her absence, but that wasn't the right time to say yet. She needed a professional opinion to validate what was going on with her. She was afraid that the diagnosis might put her career at risk, but Anna knew it was better than becoming a risk for others.

The car took a turn at a narrow street just adjacent to a beautiful village near the Salcedo market. After a few turns, the car finally stopped at a newly constructed building, in between lines of restaurants and fashion shops.

The white, tall three-story building had a small stand-in sign at the foot of its entrance.

Gnawing You Veterinary Clinic- Ground Floor

Mayumi and Tapang Security Agency- Second Floor

Illustrado Clinic- Third Floor

Anna immediately went to the topmost floor and was met by the doctor's young secretary. After a short interview, and a few forms filled-up, she was added to the waiting list. She sat down and waited for her turn, after all, there were no other clients on-queue besides her, and that other client currently inside with the doctor.

The client came out an hour later, but Anna wasn't able to see who it was because she fell asleep. Regardless, she felt relieved knowing that it was her turn. The secretary escorted her inside the clinic while bringing her files.

"Doctor Illustrado, this is Ms. Sanbwan." Her secretary smiled at him.

"Thank you, Ms. Dagondon. I will take it from here." He said in a gentle, calming voice.

It was truly him! That was the same voice Anna heard over the phone yesterday. His calming voice was soothing and almost felt like an ASMR voice over. Aside from his smooth voice, he was also a very handsome man. His eyes had a shade of brown that was close to looking like gold and his face was blemish free. He had an aquiline nose and a wonderful smile over his thin lips. Anna had seen a lot of handsome doctors during her time as a nurse, but none couldn't hold a candle to how beautiful he was.

He offered her a seat across his table, Anna obliged. He looked at her while at the same time looking at the form he was given.

"Good morning, Ms. Sanbwan." He began. "I am Dr. Mariano Illustrado, but if you may, Dr. Yano will do." He smiled.

'I… I…"

"Hmmm… your voice." Dr. Yano's forehead creased. "You called me last night, haven't you?"

Anna looked at him, dumbfounded. "How… did you…"

"Was it you?"

"Y-yes."

"Good, I was worried about what happened after the call ended." He sighed. "Anyway, tell me everything that happened, if you would, please." He put the chart down and leaned on his chair.
