The weather was now getting harsh but Edward Rutaz would not hear of any suggestions his wife Patricia had to say. He kept on driving the Lotus concept ice vehicle through the harsh winds that were coming in their direction.
Mr Edward was a scientist and an explorer he and his wife had made it their life to explore every corner of the world, and since their 10 years of marriage they had travelled all around the world but one place; Antarctica. They got all the documents needed to be legalized to come to Antarctica. Mr Edward had been so much into finding something in this continent that his wife did not understand at all.
"Honey we can still come another day...the weather is getting harsher" Patricia his wife tried convincing him to turn the car and head back or at least find somewhere they could take a rest, the climate was very cold and they were in huge jumpers to keep off the cold.
"You don't understand honey ..we have come a long way we need to get to the centre" he insisted now driving at full speed. Patricia got more worried with the thoughts of a possible accident, who would come to look for them in this forsaken continent, not even the few people they had come with would come back for them, no one would take such a risk in such a place.
The deeper they went the hotter it was becoming which did make them wonder. This was an extremely cold place but in the direction in which they were headed the temperatures felt warm and they were even tempted to remove their big jumpers and scarfs. Mr Edward stopped the car just near a very shiny piece that had a gold colour. It was in the middle of the ice that was not melting despite the high temperatures coming from that piece. Could this be what he was looking for? He put a smile on his face and jumped at his wife hugging her with joy.
"We are here honey!! We made it!!! Woohoo!" He said excitedly.
"What's with the excitement? What is that shiny thing and why is it so hot here?" She asked, now removing the top big jumpers she had.
"This is it...the centre.... the life! Come take off some clothes, it will get hotter when we are closer to it" he said pushing her with him toward that shiny golden piece. They went closer now and remained with only a few clothes on them. Mr Edward knowing how hot it was took the clothing he had filled with icebergs from the ice sheets in Antarctica and pulled it out holding it with it.
"Honey I don't think you should do that!" Patricia said worriedly, noticing how the ground was now shaking. A big explosion was heard as soon as it was removed from its place by Edward ana hot red lava shot up from a mountain that was way too far from where they were, but they could see the lava shoot up and spread all around. The volcanoes in Antarctica were all erupting, releasing so much heat.
"We need to leave now!!!" Edward screamed at his wife over the noisy eruptions. They ran quickly towards where the car was and got in. Mr Edward was still holding onto that shiny gold piece that was now melting the ice it had been held inside, turning it into the water. The icy mountains were melting and the ice sheets were melting too. They flowed towards the salt oceans and lakes in Antarctica causing a movement of water in a great massive way. Mr Edward kept driving as fast as he could but the water that moved in a big wave was catching up to them. Antarctica was melting.
"Honey..."Mr Edward called to his wife as he pulled her closer to him inside the deep wave of water that had to catch up to them, with one hand holding the shiny piece of gold and the other hand on his wife.
They were able to drive to the other side but before they could get to the plane that was ready to leave something strange happened.
He let go of the shiny gold thing as he tried to place it in a bag but it slipped off and disappeared into his wife's big belly. She was expectant and she was on her sixth month, the plane couldn't wait any more for them because everyone was rushing to leave when everything changed all of a sudden at the place.
Mr Edward was confused and he tried to look beneath his wife to see if it had fallen there. Patricia was still for a moment because she was feeling something happening to her body. She felt as if the child in her was moving in her stomach. It was too early to have this child so she tried not to think that it was labour hitting her right now.
" Honey, the child!" She cried out to Mr Edward, who did not understand what she meant until he noticed that her water had broken. This was getting serious. The child was ready to come although it was too early and they were stuck on the cold continent.
"Breath honey," He said to her and everything was still breaking and being liquified. The world around them was ending while their child was being born.
Mr Edward was also a qualified doctor and he had very many skills. He had come to this place on a mission to get the gem. He helped his wife deliver their child in such a critical condition and the child came out so tiny but in the middle of her heart was something glowing and it resembled the Gem that had just gotten into her wife's belly. However, something was happening to his wife. She was very weak.
The eruption ceased and after he had covered their daughter in the warm Jacket he wore, he turned around and looked at everything, reversing the water Icing and the hot lava dried up. With the climate getting back to how it was.
