'She is very strong, for a tier 2 mage her mana is very strong.'
Grey thought as he observed the 2nd Lt who was talking to Guwain.
The wait did not take any longer after the civilian recruits came to assembly field. Tier 2 mages from the military started to join the two 2nd lieutenants, there were 2nd lieutenants and 1st lieutenants in the bunch of tier 2 mages.
These people went to stand in front of the assembly field in front of the recruits, they too seemed to be waiting for something. In total there were 40 tier 2 mages in the assembly field, all the tier 2 mages were from the military.
After the tier 2 mages arrived in the field and had waited for a few minutes there arrived a male who looked to be in his forties. The man was wearing military uniform looking very sharp, he had black hair with hazel coloured eyes.
'A Captain rank mage, this must be the commanding officer.'
Grey thought as he looked at the man as he stood in front of the tier 2 mages, when he was closer it was possible to see he was 1.7 metres with an average body build, it looked like he did not like exercises. The Captain rank mage gave off a very neutral feeling similar to Grey's slight indifferent feeling.
"Good morning mage recruits, I am Captain Hector Barlowe."
The Captain greeted with a neutral voice
"I will be the commanding officer of this new mage battalion, I will be commanding all you 200 mages in this assembly space."
'A Captain rank commanding 200 people, they must be lacking tier 3 mages.'
Thought Grey as the military people were surprised at that statement. In the military, a Captain rank mage can only command up to 100 mages at most.
"It is exactly what you are thinking, we are lacking tier 3 mages. The influx of new mages and coupled with the fact that a lot of tier 3 mages died in the previous battle has forced us into this situation."
The people were somber when hearing that even tier 3 mages could die in this war, this was mostly prevalent in the civilian recruits because military mage recruits got reports detailing such incidents.
"You will be split into 20 squads of 10 members. The squads will have a 1st Lt in command and a 2nd Lt acting as second in command."
That was a standard way of doing things in the military.
"The teams will have four mage recruits from military mage academies and the other four will be four civilian recruits."
'Damn it.'
Scarlet and Grey looked at each other and saw the annoyance in each other's faces. From the initial observation of the civilian recruits, it would be difficult for them to deal with such people full of arrogance and idiocy.
'I was wrong before, it is possible to have idiots in the mage group.'
Grey had in the past believed that it was not possible to have mages for idiots, maybe he was wrong. What Grey did not know was that mages in the outside world are highly respected, and these civilian got like this because they lived in such a society.
The Captain could see that faces of the military mage recruits, and he knew what they were thinking, but he did not comment. These people were clever enough to understand why this was done, thus he was not going to explain.
'I know they do this to increase the survival rate of civilian recruits, but I do not like it.'
Grey looked at the 2nd Lt who commented on the survival rate of the civilian recruits as he ran through his thoughts.
The civilian recruits might be tier 1 mages, but they were not trained for combat. Thus having military people in their teams would help them survive long enough to understand how war works.
"1st lieutenants, you can call your members."
The first 1st Lt came and started to call his 8 members, the military mage recruits were all from the same academy and the civilian recruits were obviously random. This continued for a while with 1st lieutenants taking turns to call their people.
"Tracy Gram, Gosiek Garen, Leon Fischer, Scarlet Autumn, Dalton…, Kelly…, Leah… and Oscar..."
Mages from Witfield started to be called, there was a person with the same surname as Grey from Humphrey Academy who was a left over and had to join those from Witfield Academy.
The mages were called by a female 1st Lt, when she finished calling them she went to the side together with 2nd Lt Guwain, he was going to be 2nd in command of Scarlet's team.
"Sharon Mountain, Bon Meyer, Grey Gram, Ilse Louis, Alice Whitlock, Sheryl Katz, Ross Nordeck and Grant Hart."
The 1st Lt who called Grey's name was a male of height of 1.78 metres with black hair that was tied into a ponytail. The man looked to be in his twenties and very handsome with a sharp jawline and black eyes.
The man had a lot of male charm, some of the girls in the crowd were looking at him with infatuation.
"The names of the mages that I called, you can join 2nd Lt June Marion and myself at the side."
The mage recruits that he called started to follow him, this included Grey.
'This fellow must be in his late teens, I am starting to wonder what the military feeds us in order to allow us to grow this quickly.'
Grey thought as he looked at the 1st Lt lead them to a side in the assembly field.
'It's that 2nd Lt with the powerful mana, so she is my second in command. She must have high inherent talent, at least tier 3 to have such mana.'
2nd Lt June Marion was the mage that Grey was thinking about.
The 2nd Lt had really short auburn hair and a tall height of 1.75 metres with blue eyes that seemed full of ambition, it looked like she was a women on a mission. The 2nd Lt seemed to be in her twenties, however like the 1st Lt she was in her late teens.
She was not a super beauty and her body was full of muscles, she could be considered a unique beauty.
"Good morning everyone, my name is 1st Lt Percival Elrod."
The 1st Lt said with a amicable voice, it was his first time commanding and he wanted his subordinates to feel welcomed.
"We will be working together from now on. We will go through some small training to increase our synergy before we get deployed, which will be very soon."
The military mage recruits understood the need for synergy, thus they all had understanding looks, though there was some slight doubt in the civilian recruits.
"Any questions?"
"Yes Sir, how soon is soon?"
"You should introduce yourself before you ask a question."
Said 2nd Lt June Marion before 1st Lt Elrod could answer, she was looking at the female civilian recruit who was clearly a noble. It seemed like she did not like these civilian recruits.
"Alice Whitlock."
The girl said with seething fury, she felt that this person had clearly offended her, but kept cool.
"It's fine recruit Whitlock, about your question, we should get deployed in about a week."
1st Lt Elrod said so with nonchalance as he gave June a look.
'A week, huh?'
Grey though as he observed the whole conversation.
"Today we will dismiss at this point, the civilian recruits will need to get their uniform before we can do anything."
Grey left with Bon after that as they looked for the dorms, Ilse and Sharon followed them not paying attention to the civilian recruits.
