Grey did not take a long time to find the dorm area, though this being a military it would be apt to call it the barracks. Mages though were given the respect to only have two people in one room instead of having many people in the room. Grey like that idea vey much, he would ind it vey taxing to live in a room with a dozen men.
"Names?"
"Grey Gram."
"Bon Meyer."
Grey went to find the officer in charge of room allocation. The person was a regular male human who seemed to be in his fifties. The man seemed to have been in the military for most of his life. The man did not seem to have the awe for mages, at least he treated Grey and Bon the same way he treated the regular humans.
Maybe having lived with them for such a long time he understood that they more or less human, only special. Grey and Bon did not mind his attitude, actually many mages from military academies would not mind such behaviour unlike the mages from who were trained whilst living in society.
"Grey Gram, room 035…"
The man paused for a second to observe Grey and Bon before continuing.
"Bon Meyer, room 035. Here are your keys for your rooms."
Both Grey and Bon turned to look at each other, they might not dislike each other, but they could hardly be considered friends, however that did not change the fact that they might be fated to be acquaintances.
"Grey I hope we will be good roommates for the next week."
Bon said so with a chuckle, since they would be roommates for a week.
"Sure."
The man looked at them as they left to their room, whilst he thought to himself.
'Another campaign in a week.'
Grey and Bon went to room number 035, they found all their luggage already there waiting for them. Grey had more luggage, which mainly had many of his Magic Ring Design books, whilst Bon had very little of luggage. Bon was not really talented in the literary side, thus he only went to general magic class. However Bon could be considered to be really talented in magic combat and magic casting.
"Grey how is your knowledge level in magic ring design, I head you are very talented."
Bon asked with some interest, as stated Bon and Grey might not have disliked each other but they were not acquaintances, thus as much as many people knew that Grey was talented in magic ring design non of them went to ask him about it, Bon was one of these people.
"Enough to design tier 1 and tier 2 magic rings."
Grey did not feel it was necessary to lie about that, when truth about his magic ring design research came out it would be very awkward when Bon found out, though he did not say that was his full ability to design magic rings.
"Oh… I did not think you would that good…"
Bon said with a straight face, as he took a pause to reign in his obvious surprise, though his statement could be considered rude, Grey did not care much.
"Do you think it is possible to look at your tier 1 designs?"
"Yes it is possible, but you would need to sign an NDA before looking at them."
It looked like this fellow had these with him at all time, I guess is better to be safe than sorry, as in this case.
Bon was surprised as his face had a look of incomprehensibility as he could not figure out why a tier 1 magic ring design would need an NDA.
Grey did not comment, but gave him the time to think through his thoughts. Grey went to unpack his luggage this required removing all the traps that were put on his luggage, if an individual opened his luggage the contents would be burnt by fire as there were fire spell structures fueled by magic crystals that would trigger.
After five minutes of Bon's thinking run, there was finally a respond.
"Ah… Grey… I can sign the NDA. I just wanted to check out your skills so that maybe you could design a magic ring for me. You should know that we will be reaching tier 2 in approximately 3 years. I want to get something special, and commissioning a really well known master magic ring designer could be very difficult for an unknown mage, and the military standard magic rings do not seem to use all my potential."
There was still some doubt in his voice, but he felt there was nothing to lose about signing an NDA. Grey did not mind Bon's statement that seemed to undermine his skills as a designer. Considering that Grey had just started to design magic rings, as an outside individual it would make sense to judge his skills at a lesser level when compared to well experienced designer.
"Sure I understand, I will give you an example of my works."
"Sure I will wait as I unpack my stuff."
There were no more words spoken afterwards, both Grey and Bon were not very good in small talk. They spent some time unpacking their luggage, after a while Grey took out a design of tier 1 Magic Ring design [Shield and Lance Strengthening] the magic ring that he submitted to the military for grading as well as the NDA. The magic ring design had the ability to increase the power of two water spells of tier 1 one strength.
Bon signed the NDA before taking the document detailing the workings of the magic ring, as Bon was reading the workings of the magic ring, his handsome face had a look of shock and slight horror.
"Ah… Grey… Is this for real?"
Bon asked with a tremble in his voice.
Grey just gave him a glance and did not answer him. Looking at the face that Grey had, Bon understood that this fellow was not messing around. There was a slight regret in his mind as he thought of the standard tier 1 military magic ring design that he had engraved, [Strengthen Dark Miasma Shield].
The ring strengthened the tier 1 spell, [Dark Miasma Shield], the ring was not the best in terms of efficiency, it could only reach 7.5% in its actual strengthening value.
"Grey this is a game changer… And you must know that already… I apologise for doubt."
Bon said with some sincerity, as he his normally cool face showed some awe and respect towards his classmate of many years.
"So what do you want your tier 2 magic ring to focus on?"
Grey did not even ask if he was going to commission a magic ring, he could see in his face full of want. The talent that Bon had required a good magic ring that could allow his to show off his best ability.
"I have a lot of talent in magic casting and magic fights."
Bon stated with a serious face which did not show any arrogance and narcissism, the fellow was just really confident about himself and his ability.
"I can already cut the time to cast my spells by 5%, I believe that number might increase in the future."
Bon paused to give Grey a chance to respond, but Grey was still waiting for him to finish.
"I should be able to start double casting by the time I reach tier 2."
The was a look of surprise from Grey face, which made him look at this fellow with a different look. The fact that he is sure that he will start to double cast at tier 2, whilst most people get such an ability at tier 3 shows how much talent he has.
'What a pity you have tier 2 magic talent.'
"For someone like me who only has tier 2 talent, it will take me a long time to get the merit to increase my base magic talent and reach tier 3."
Grey understood what he meant by that, with the war coming up he might get a chance to get those merits, but the risks would be higher as well.
"I understand what you want and I should be able to create it for you."
