The commission of a magic ring design was finalised between Grey and Bon after some prices were discussed by the two. Bon was feeling the sting due to the price that they agreed to, though he did not complain because he felt that the price that Grey had quoted him was fair.
"My merits and salary for the next few months will be gone."
Bon said with a smile as he went to meditate on his side of the room.
'However I might have been very lucky in meeting an individual like you. When you finally get famous an unknown mage like would never get the chance to have a magic ring designed by such a genius like you.'
Bon thought as he observed the back of Grey who was seating on his table going through a study period of magic and magic rings. Grey was still very serious about continuous study of magic, even after magic a great breakthrough.
Grey did not want to stagnate like he did in his previous life, he was still learning about how other countries made their magic rings.
He was not only doing that, he was also thinking for inspiration from his memories of his previous life. The games and the novels that he read might have great ideas that he could use to make a new masterpiece.
He was currently working on some special effects that he wanted his magic rings to do. These effects would make his magic even more powerful, especially after meeting a natural talent like Bon.
He felt that he could not be left behind, unlike what people thought, he was not highly talented in casting, his ability in casting could be considered normal amongst mages.
The ability to dual cast was done through the use of a magic ring, if it was not there he would have developed the ability like most mages, when he reached tier 3. That just showed how average his talent was, but even he knew he could not have such a truth to come out.
Thus Grey must always use the advantage that he has to cover his deficiency, his advantage just turned out to be really in tune to magic, making him not fall behind.
Grey was currently very focused on the special effect that he wanted to have on his tier 2 magic ring design. Aside from the Strengthen Activation he wanted to develop a new Activation which he called Casting Interruption Activation.
Inspired by how mages in games could affect their enemies by attacks, he wanted to have his magic attacks to have the ability to interrupt the magic casting of other mages. This ability could be really powerful if well implemented, he would only need to hit the enemy once and the fight would be practically over.
The only was to counter such a method would be to have great dodging ability and prevent to be hit, however there are not many mages that focus on speed when choosing magic rings. Most people always choose offense or shield type defensive magic rings.
In this world, magic casting was something that could be done without the use of spoken words or special postures like how it was theorised in the novels of Grey's previous world.
The mages in this world only needed to phase out the spell structure of the spell they wanted to cast in their minds. Mana would then flow through the mana channels from the mana pool in order to fuel the magic spell.
Thus unlike those stories where the main character could interrupt the casting of an enemy by preventing them from speaking, in this world casting interruption would be a slightly complicated issue. If said by fantasy novels, every mage in this world could silent cast, which is usually a main character ability in novel stories.
'The attack that hits the enemy is practically made out of my mana, if I made my mana to have an ability to disrupt the mana flow of the enemy mage, that would interrupt casting.'
'The idea is sound, but any competent mage would notice such an effect and quickly start to resist my mana.'
Grey thought as he look into some documents and thinking about some ideas.
'If I had the ability to prevent the mage from having stable thoughts, together with my mana putting the enemy mage's mana into disarray. The enemy would be interrupted long enough to give me the time to kill him/her.'
If Grey had the ability to implement the ability to put a mage's thoughts into disarray then he would have already finished the planning of the magic ring design. However he did not know how to do that, and was still trying to figure out a method, but he did not worry too much about the issue.
Grey still had approximately 3 years before he would reach tier 2, he also had to design the magic rings for Scarlet, Miranda and Bon.
The magic designs of those three people could be considered to be less difficult, even if these people knew of his ability to design magic rings, he would not release his ability to have more one Activation in a magic ring. Thus most of their magic rings would have a single Activation depending on what they wanted.
But the money/merits he charged Miranda and Bon would make him very rich after those two paid debts, especially Miranda who still owes him for a tier 1 magic ring design and spell structures for fire type spells.
'Now I understand why Master Magic Ring Designers are so rich, even though they have a love-hate relationship with the rest of the magic community. Mages still come to them, magic ring designs do really have a big part in the magic community.'
Grey thought to himself as he was closing his books, his allocated time for study was finished, he was going to join Bon in meditating to accumulate magic. He was already behind most of the tier 1 mages by two months, thus he allocated more time in order to catch up with them.
Tomorrow might be a long day, so he hard to steel his mind. From what he saw from the girl called Alice Whitlock the way mages are treated outside of the military academies are slightly different, which created personalities like her.
