Chapter 22 - The Day Before Birthday.

Adonis walked to the fitting room where everyone including Isolde were seated.

The dressmakers had brought two racks of suits for his birthday tomorrow.

"Greetings to the Young Master of Arnall Marquessate."

Adonis gave them a nod with a small smile.

The female assistant behind the designer blushed.

The designer removed the cloth covering the racks and revealed different beautifully stitched suits which he had brought with him.

Some had lovely colours while some had beautiful design. Some look quite pretty with prints while some look classy.

Juno turned towards Adonis and asked him softly,"Ado, what do you want?"

"Here, you'll wear this for your birthday."

Isolde took out the most flamboyant Burgundy Suit with flashy golden chains hanging all over.

Everyone's face made an expression on eating something sour.

"He should choose his own outfit."

"He's too indecisive to do so. He doesn't actually know what he wants so I have to choose for him, always. We'll take this."

The designer looked a bit perplexed. He looked at Adonis who didn't object and was sitting indifferently.

He put the Burgundy Suit aside.

"Ado, you like it?"

Adonis broke out of his daze after Juno jerked him.

"Huh?"

"The suit, you like it?"

Adonis looked at the racks of suit, without much thought, he nodded his head.

"Anything is good. I have to go and check some paperwork."

Adonis abruptly stood up and left the room.

"Sir, sir, Master Adonis."

"Huh"

"You're spacing out again."

"I-I'm sorry, Rosie."

Rosie looked at Adonis who bent down again to look at the paperworks.

He seems to space out and bend a lot these days, like he wishes to curl into a ball or something.

"The preparation for your birthday tomorrow has been almost done. Everything is ready. We'll treat all the guests well. Master needn't have any worries."

Adonis gave her a small smile and said,"I trust you, Rosie."

"Master that, this time we have someone-"

Knock, knock.

Both of them looked at the door.

"Come in."

A maid came inside the study with her head hung low.

"Blossom."

"That, Head Butler, w-we can't seem to find some t-things. It's quite important to get those right now."

Rosie looked at her.

"I should have told you guys earlier. Let's move. I'll tell you now."

She turned towards Adonis and said,"Please excuse me."

After Adonis nodded, Rosie turned around to leave.

The maid peeked at Rosie, blushed and hurriedly followed her.

"I wonder if Rosie has already noticed this."

Adonis smiled and murmured to himself.

Due to the celebration, Adonis had a lot of papers to look through and sign, for a few days. Today was the same. He got out of study when it was quite late and asked a maid to bring dinner in his room.

After eating and washing up he slept on his bed unwilling to close his eyes. Because if he did, he'd have to go through the same hellish nightmare again. He was extremely tired to his soul.

Unfortunately he hadn't been able to sleep after the nightmare so he would also fall asleep quickly.

The next day, Adonis again woke up drenched with sweat. He looked and it was still pitch dark outside.

After a few attempts of sleeping, when he couldn't, he woke up.

After washing and dressing himself up, Adonis did what he usually did to calm himself down.

He opened the secret drawer below his bed and took out some letters.

Opening those neatly packed letters, he started reading.

He had only read some lines and a smile spread across his face.

One by one, as he read those letters, his smile kept on growing and becoming more beautiful.

When the first rays of sun started painting the dark sky, he finished reading the letters.

He hooded up in the corner of the bed with those letters clenched near his chest. He felt safe.

His beautiful smile from a moment ago was nowhere to be seen. Adonis now looked like a man who had his everything taken away from him unfairly.

He really did suffer from some extremely disturbing events.

He remembered a time which no one remembered other than him. So the burden was heavy.

Those nights, that time left a deep wound on his soul which he couldn't seem to heal.

On some rainy days, those wounds would flare up and he had no other choice but to suffer.

He went down lazily to have breakfast with his brothers and sisters as usual.

"Happy birthday."

All of them shouted as soon as he reached the table.

The smell of vanilla filled the room.

"Sister Juno made a cake for you, Brother Adonis."

Lucia dragged him to the table.

On the table was a small vanilla cake with strawberries sitting beautifully on the top.

"Happy Birthday, Ado."

She hugged him warmly.

Everyone came and hugged them. Adonis's eyes could help bring moistness. It was so warm and nice. He felt so loved.

"Okay, today is the day of celebration. Cake time."

Adonis blew the candle and cut the cake. He gave it to everyone including Rosie.

The maid from yesterday was standing behind her.

Adonis smiled.

Maybe birthdays indeed were happy days.

"Master, a small gift for you."

Rosie gave him a box which was the size of two fingers.

"What is this?"

Rosie replied,"Hidden weapon, Young Master. It's a hidden weapon brought from another country."

Adonis lookee at the tiny both from both the sides. It was a wooden box with the craving of a bird flying near the moon.

Rosie showed it to him.

"You see this moon. If you press it, the needle will come out and if you stab anywhere on their back, you can temporarily make someone unconscious. But be careful, here if you press it's legs, a poisonous needle will come out. This poison is so strong that it'll only take a few minutes for the person to die."

Adonis nodded enthusiastically.

He put the needle carefully in his pocket.

He smiled warmly and said,"I'll use it well."

Juno gave him a rabbit fur cloak.

Mila gave him a bottle of precision wine.

Rufus gave him a horse.

And Lucia gave him a heart shaped stone.

"Brother Adonis, I found this while collecting items for my shop. It is called the Love's stone. It is said that it'll help you find love."

"Thank you so much, thank you all so so so much for everything. I'll use these well."

After what felt like ages, there was cheerful laugh and chattering on the dining table.

After lunch, Adonis went to get dressed. He had to start being ready for his birthday banquet.

After he reached his room he was shocked.

"What the heck is this flamboyant thing?"

He looked at the suit with horrified expression on his face.

"You said okay yourself yesterday, Ado. Isolde had chosen it for you."

Adonis sighed.

Some minutes later a grin appeared on his face. He looked at his dresser and said,"How about a bit of mending?"

The maid looked at Adonis with a confused expression on her face.
