Chapter 6 - Welcoming Rejection

Demi's Pov

I arrived at aunt Gracie's house ten minutes before she did but I unfortunately didn't have the keys to get in. I let out a sigh before I rolled my bike slowly to the back of the house and came back to seat on board of the front porch, awaiting my fate

"Hey!" I heard someone say from nowhere. I turned to my side and I saw the man that had showed me aunt Gracie's house yesterday.

"Hello, Mr..." I paused. I had totally forgotten about him, so remembering his name proved impossible

"Calman" he prompted

"Mr Calman, yeah. Hello! Sorry" I smiled at him apologetically at not being able to remember his name

"It's fine dear. what are you doing sitting on the floor?" He asked still standing where he was and giving my aunt's house a weary look

"Nothing much just waiting for my aunt to get home. She's the one with the house keys" I replied back. I could be barely see him through all the cactus plants but I couldn't miss the look he gave the house before taking a breath and telling

"Gimme a second I'm coming over" And just like that, in a few seconds, he had walked a from his own lawn to my aunt's front porch and was sitting beside me on the floor

"How was school today?" he asked

"Fine" I said with a shrug. No need telling him about all the problems that happened today.

"Good. I heard my son's friend tell him when they came to visit him earlier today that a fight happened at school, or something like that. What is wrong with kids of today, They all want to become hooligans!" Mr Calman said with a frown

"Yeah it's seems like that to the adults" I replied looking just as serious he did.

"Just take my son for example, he now has to be in bed for a week because of all these violent acts!" He said not understanding the statement I was trying to make

"what happened?" I asked, not really interested in the topic but also not wanting to be rude by not responding. Mr Calman was really nice so I didn't want to hurt his feelings

"He got himself injured and I'm glad that he did. Maybe this will be a lesson" he said with determination etching his voice

"I don't think so. Injuries only make you feel stronger and more determined than ever" I replied. I was speaking from experience because every hidden scars I had gotten only fuel me to be a better fighter in order to avoid more

"Really?" he asked

"Yeah" I said

"And how would you know?" He asked, this time looking at me with expectant eyes

I paused for a minute. Should I just tell him about myself and get on with my life. What's the worst that could happen, he wouldn't speak to me again. I mean who cares, even my parents don't want me anymore.

I don't give a darn about whatever happens, he's bound to find out either way. I decided to tell him

"Because, I-" I started speaking but was interrupted by a female's voice.

"What are you doing?" My aunt asked from the walk way literally popping out of no where. I hadn't even heard when she parked her car

"Talking to Mr Calman" I replied pointing to the man in question who just sat there staring at my aunt with squinted eyes. As if trying really make out her face.

"Come in" She said quickly before she immediately turned her face away from Mr Calman's view and walked quickly to the front door, opened it and walked in without looking back.

I turned back to Mr Calman and saw him still staring at the door and giving it a strange look. I remained silent and watched him frown a bit, tilt his head and finally shake it. He still had the confused look on his face when he turned back to me

"Your aunt said to go in so have a good night. Bye. See you next time" He mumbled some other random greetings and walked away. I watched him walk away with that confused look on his face

I didn't know how or why I was noticing this tiny details but I did and it bothered me. And I was so annoyed with myself for letting allowing myself to be concerned at all

I walked into the house hoping that aunt Gracie had gotten as upset as she had the last time and had gone to her room to cry. But it was not to be because as I made my way to the stairs inside the house, I heard her say

"Dinner is served. I had to stop to buy take outs. No time to cook tonight" She said

I almost let out a loud groan but managed to keep it together and walk to her dinning table. I wasn't even properly sitted before she started questioning me like I assumed she would.

"Are you hurt?" she asked with concern written on her face. she had such an innocent look that I knew she wasn't faking

"I'm fine" I said with a frown. The question wasn't what I had expected at all. I was never asked if I was hurt after a fight. I usually won but I also got hurt most of the time but my parents never asked because they assumed that I never got injured

"Good. Now why on earth would you get into a fight on your first day of school!" she yelled

"Because I can" I replied with voice as cold as steeling and began continued eating my food

"Demi! You really don't mean that!" she said

"Yes, I do!" I replied

"I can't believe this" She whispered

"Gimme a few seconds to pack my things" I said before standing up, rushing to the and swiftly moving up the stairs. No need sitting at the table and waiting for what I knew was coming

I got to my room and started packing up. It was proving difficult because I couldn't see clearly as tears had started gathering in my eyes. What the heck was wrong with me. How could I have gotten emotionally attached after just one day

I realised as I pack that I wasn't emotionally attached but rejection of any kind was just hard to deal with.

It took me few seconds to realise that my aunt was calling my name softly from the door of the room

"What is it?" I answered careful not to turn to her and let her see how vulnerable and scared I was. I didn't even know where to go after I left here. My parents wouldn't want me around so, where would I go?

"What are you doing?" she asked sounding confused

"Packing up as you can see" I replied, my back still turned to her while I still shoved thing into random boxes

"I can see that but I want to know why?" She asked

"Aunt Gracie, I just helping you get past the awkwardness of having to send me packing. I know you're to nice to say it" I said

"No! No! No! Why would I want to send you away?" She asked

"Why was I sent here in the first place?" I retorted

"Because your parents wanted you to transfer here. And I'm so happy you're here" she said

I sharply turned to look at the crazy lady

"You're happy I'm here?" I asked

"Yes and I would never want to go anywhere" She said walking fully into the room

"How much are you being paid to lie like this? Just stop lying because you're not fooling anyone" I replied in anger. Hot tears were pouring down my eyes but I couldn't stop them.

"Honey if anything, I'll pay your parents for sending you here. You can't imagine how lonely it gets" She said

"So you're just dealing with with me to cure your boredom?" I asked

"Nope. I'm not dealing with you. You're here because I want you here and you're not leaving ever! Well not ever but until you get tired of me and want to" She said sweetly

I looked at her in shock for a few seconds before walking to the bed and plopping down on it. Seconds later she was beside me holding me tight.

She was a small woman but she managed to hold me firmly and somehow place my head comfortably on her shoulder. I'm guessing being a tiny person in a family of giant made her an expert in such things

"Hey" She said making me raise my head to look at her

"Now could you tell me what exactly happened?" She said softly. She was offering me something no one else had ever offered me... fair hearing

I looked into her eyes for a few seconds and saw the sincerity in them. I decided to take what she offered and told her what exactly had happened.

She spoke as soon as I was done.

"Oh sweet heart! You really didn't have to do that for me. I'm used to the insults by now" She said with a sad smile

"But I don't want you to be used to it! You're my aunt and I'll protect you!" I said vehemently

She let out a chuckle and patted me on the cheek "And you ask me why I want to around. I love you my sugar plum" she said bumping my nose with her index finger. How on earth does she come up with the cheesiest pet names

"Enough of that" I said swiping her hands away

"okay dear but I want you to have this" She removed a long chain that I'd never even noticed was hanging on her neck.

"What's this?" I read what the writing that hung on the chain said "Psalm 27 verses 10?" I asked in confusion

I reached for my phone and started searching out the Bible verse on the internet. From the dinner of my eyes I saw my aunt roll her eyes and I also heard her whisper

"What happened to your hard cover Bible?" she said squeezing her mouth her bit

I ignored her and read the what the verse said aloud "When my father and my mother forsakes me, then the Lord will take me up" I smiled after reading it and turned to look at her

"It helped me get through a lot of difficult time. I hope it does the same fore you" She said before giving me a peck on the cheek

"Thanks" I replied, truely meaning it

She stood and began going out of the room but as she got to the door she stopped and spoke to me again

"Before I forget, make sure to wear white cloths at night. So you don't blend in with the walls" she said before going out.

I smile again and looked at the necklace she gave me. I hung around my neck, thinking of how thoughtful she was being to me.

That night made me conclude on two things.

My aunt was definitely crazy but she was also nice to me. So nobody better mess with her!

A week passed by without any incidence and I was glad about that. I hoped it remained like that but trouble somehow seemed to like knocking on my door.

Afternoon came I decided that it was time to wash my bike. So for the first time since I arrived, I parked my bike outside the house. I went back into the house to get cleaning supplies only come back to find a blonde haired guy near my bike

I paused for bit to watch what he was trying to do. I watched him hover around the bike, inspecting it before he brought out a pocket knife.

Thankfully I realised what he was about to do in time. With lightning speed, I ran to where the bike was and hauled the bucket that I had in my hand at him. How dare he try to slash my tires!

Water from the bucket got everywhere and even drench me but I made was beyond glad when the fool screamed in pain. He immediately turned towards me, anger in his blue eyes. Eyes that I recognised

I realised immediately that he was the same guy I ran over his foot with my bike a week ago!

"What the **** are you doing?!" We both asked each other at the same.

I couldn't resist the urge to quickly look at his foot. I noticed that they looked a little red but sadly they didn't look broken. I threw the thought aside and turned back to look at him anger radiating from my entire system

"Who the hell do you think you are to try to puncture my tires. Do you know how much they cost!" I yelled and raised the bucket that was still in my hand to hit him again

I wasn't successful the last time but this time around I'll make sure to cripple him!
