Chapter 10 - Parent-lashing and a friend request

Demi's Pov

"Hello, mother" I answered with an eye roll

"Hello, Demi. How are you doing? Hope you're not causing any trouble?" My mom asked

I sighed and answered "No, mom"

"Are you sure because your aunt called to tell us that she had to confront your school authorities. But she's also being very tight lipped about what you did" she told me

"And you called me so I could tell you what my offence was because you are so sure there's one" I retorted as I stomped through the hallway of the school and then entered the female bathroom

"Demi, don't take it the wrong way. We just wanted to make sure everything is fine" my mom replied, her voice beginning to quiver like it always did when she struggled to hold back tears

"Don't lie to me mom. You just want to make sure I'm I'm not going to sent back to you guys anytime soon. But new flash, I'm not being sent back to you guys anytime soon because aunt Gracie actually wants me here! Even though I can't say the same about my own mother who joined hands with her husband to ship me off!" I yelled into the phone.

"Demi, don't say that!" My mom's shaky voice came through the phone again but this time she added a sniff

"Don't say what, mom? The truth? The truth on how you failed as a mom and picked a favorite child? I'm sure you didn't consider sending your precious son to aunt Gracie instead of me. As soon as someone had to go, the vote was unanimously against me" I was still so mad that I was sent to this god forsaken place and nothing she could say would change that

"Dani, that's enough!" I heard my dad's firm voice com through the phone

Just who I was waiting for. I was beginning to wonder when he was going to join in on the fun. I knew he was with my mom as soon as my mom used the word "we" sometime during our conversation

"Took you long enough, dad. Because I have been reserving your own lashing for some time now but I'm gonna let you have it. I can deal with you not trusting me but I can't believe you wouldn't trust the judgement of your own little sister"

"Trust me, Gracie's decision making has been somewhat questionable since decided she moved out to that deserted town for that man!" My dad fired back through the phone

"What did you say?" I asked in shock

"Nothing!" he responded quickly

"Dad, what did you mean? Answer me!"

"It was nothing and besides it's not my story to tell. What I'm trying to say is that your aunt loves you a lot and she's not the best judge of character when it comes to people she loves. I think I'd be wise to make sure everything is going fine and you haven't gotten into any trouble" My dad finished

I remained silent after he spoke because I had become completely lost in thought from the revelation that my aunt Gracie had abandoned everything to move here with a man. And the fact that she lived alone now is proof that things didn't work out with the undisclosed man

"So, what trouble did you get into at your new school?" he asked when I remained silent for a long while

"Dad, I'm really tempted to say fuck off but since you're my parents I'll just say goodbye!" I yelled and hung up the phone

I turned around and for the first time noticed I wasn't alone in the restroom. Some random female students that were in there gave me weird looks. There were five girls in total. Three out of the five looked like they were friends and they came together because they stood close to each other, while the remaining two looked like they came alone.

I threw a mean look at all of them and they all except one looked away from me. The two that came alone washed their hands and quickly left.

One particular girl out of the three kept staring at me without blink. Her two friends, both were brunettes and mixed race, had immediately looked away and wash their hands. She joined them to do the same but kept on looking at me through the mirror.

Not wanting to cower away from her uncomfortably long stare, I started to stare her down too. Normally, if someone stared at me that long I'd probably be pissed off by now and had already given them a beat down

Judging from her petite build of about five foot and about and inch more or so, I could probably do her a lot of harm but somehow I didn't feel the urge to react rashly towards her. Her stare did seem malicious to me, it seemed like just a curious stare.

I maintained eye contact with the girl even after she was done with hand washing, I noticed her friends try to tug her out of the bathroom but she stubbornly refused to move an inch from her position. After more fruitless attempt at getting her out of the restroom, they abandoned her and scurried out.

Now here I was in the bathroom, fully involved in a stating contest with a stranger. She was dressed in a pink crop top and had matched the top with a baby blue colored jean. She had her red hair pulled into a tight bun

"What?" I finally asked when I'd gotten bored of looking at her.

"Nothing" She replied and quickly looked away. Suddenly, she acted very shy which seemed like a contrast to the girl that had just stared at me for fifteen minutes straight.

She took quick glances at me for a few seconds before her eyes finally rested on my face once for. This time she bit her lips as she looked at me

"What?" I asked again. I didn't have time for her. I'd already wasted enough of my time speaking to my parents and staring at her.

"Will you be my friend?" she suddenly asked

"What?" I was so confused at this point

"I think you're cool and I want to be friends with you. I heard so much about you around school today. They mad it seem like you're a mean person but you don't look at all like that" she rushed

"Trust me, They're right" I replied

"Maybe but you don't look at all like how I pictured you from the story they told" she said with a small chuckle

"And how did you picture me to look like?" I asked wandering why I was getting involved in the conversation

"Like Ursula from the little mermaid" she answered with a small pout

I barked out a laughter at her response "Sorry to disappoint"

"No, I think it's good that you look nothing like her. I like you're beautiful even though you always have a frown on your face" She replied

"What?" I asked just as the bell that notified us that it was, once again, time for class.

"I have to go now. I have maths class and the teacher is very strict. But I'll look for immediately school is over, I know where your locker is" She dug into her and brought out a medium sized chocolate bar

Just as she ran out of the bathroom she place it in my hand

"Sorry, about wasting your lunch break. You can eat that during lunch. Thank you for being my friend" she yelled as she went out the door

"What? I never agreed to that" I moved quickly out the restroom door and yelled back through the maze of students running through the hallway to get to their various class

Though I lost sight of her, I heard her yell back

"But you will very soon. Then you can be friends with my other friends too"

I was far too stunned to respond. The more I met people from this town, the more I'm beginning to realize that each one was more crazier than the other. And they also had different categories for their each of their crazy. Some were crazily crazy, some were weirdly crazy, some where stupidly crazy and some, like the girl I just met, were nicely crazy

Who would want to be friends with the school's new tyrant. Could be that she wanted something from me so the whole show of kindness was just an act

I shrugged and decided that that was problem for another time. Getting to class was my current problem

"Shouldn't you be getting to class, Demi?" someone spoke behind me

I turned to see the group of people that fell in the category of crazily crazy.

To avoid any confusion, I turned around to face Evan and his friends.

Could today get any worse?
