This story takes place 66 million years before man became the rulers of earth, a planet located in the milky way galaxy. During this time on the planet, the current rulers were massive lizards called Dinosaurs. They inhabited the supercontinent that would later become known as Pangea. They were great predators that fought desperately for survival. But on this day, the dinosaurs faced a threat they've never seen before.
On the eastern coast of Pangea, a catastrophe was coming as the skyline seemed to catch on fire. The instincts of dinosaur's all over Pangea warned them of an incoming cataclysm as soon as the atmosphere was breached. Every animal fled away from the danger creating a mass migration. The cause of the migration was a six-mile-wide meteor crashing toward the earth's surface. In an instant, the meteor crashed right off of the eastern coast raining down debris and carnage. The initial impact caused a tsunami on the coastal line, a massive dust cloud that began to spread around the world and a massive heatwave that raised the planet's temperature as a whole.
Those near the impact zone to 150-miles away felt the effects of the impact almost instantly. Those closer to the impact zone were crushed, incinerated, or drowned. Dinosaurs farther out were mostly crushed by flying debris or swept up by the sonic boom released by the meteor.
The impact also caused nearby volcanos to erupt on a massive scale releasing smog and lava onto the surface. The heat and shockwaves along with other disasters wiped out entire ecosystems for over a hundred miles away. This meant unlucky survivors of the catastrophe were in a race against time to find untouched area's that contained the necessities needed for survival. Even though they all struggled to survive for most, regardless of the actions they took, it didn't matter as their fates had been sealed. The destruction eclipsed even those on the outer areas of the destructive zone as it continued to spread like a lit fire next to a shed of gasoline.
It took less than two hours for entire planet to show signs of the meteor's impact. Those that were still alive after the initial impact and the aftershocks, now faced new challenges. Soot, dust, and ash released into the atmosphere caused a lack of sunlight that devastated the plant life that herbivores need to survive. This caused a chain effect since the decline in herbivores meant that carnivores had to expand their hunt grounds further increasing the risk of running into other predators. The carnivores would now be forced to fight each other for food as it was either death by starvation or for a fighting chance at survival.
In a single day, millions of dinosaurs were wiped from the face of the earth. Species that had taken millions of years to develop through the trials and errors of life were gone. This event unknowingly had caught the attention of a God. Even as a God he felt an immense sadness from the destruction of favorite planets. He had watched the planet and animals develop and enjoyed watching the struggle to become better at survival.
"So much destruction" the god said to himself as he watched the event alone. "So much loss of life and potential"
He watched the months pass by as the situation for the dinosaurs worsened to the extremes. The once luscious lands had become barren with few plants been still alive. The fresh air was tainted with smog and ash. Only the aquatic life deep in the oceans and lake and small mammalian animals seemed to show signs of being able to survive and recover with time.
Seeing that animals would still have a place on this planet, the god took one last look at the inhabitants on the planet. Checking on the few survivors that caught his eye, he found a cluster of eggs in a cave as he checked in a female Raptor.
'What a shame' he thought as he shook his head as she laid dead a few feet away. Seeming to have died from exhaustion, lack of food, and the taxing process of laying her eggs. She had been searching for food desperately, trying stock up food for the egg laying process. This increased the strain on her, due to the difficulty of procuring food and having to fight for keep said food if another predator stumbled upon her.
'Well, that unfortunate. At least, it the eggs haven't hatched yet.' He thought. Just at that moment the egg in the middle of the clutch started to shake. The God shocked by the irony of this event as the baby inside pushed to break free of its prison. Captivated by its fight to escape the egg, the god couldn't himself as he watched on.
Just then a predator searching for food neared the same cave. The predators had found the scent and tracks left by the various mother's hunting attempts. The creature felt elated as it was close to finding something to eat. Starved and emaciated, it slowly continued to the entrance of the cave.
Back in the cave, the egg rocked and shook with more vigor as tiny cracks form on the egg. With a final push, the shell gave way for a tiny claw that pushed away a good portion of the shell. What followed was the slow destruction of the egg until it revealed a tiny baby raptor.
While the hatchling was fighting to free itself from the egg, the god was debating on whether he would intervene or not.
