Chereads / The Tower Of Sacrifice / Chapter 3 - Higher Difficulty Setting

Chapter 3 - Higher Difficulty Setting

Alex smashed the fourth Skeleton that appeared.

[You have leveled up!]

[1 Stat Point has been added to every Stat.]

[You have received 3 Unused Stat Points that can be allocated to the Stats of your choice.]

After reading the floating messages in front of him, Alex turned towards his next target.

'They appear one-by-one which makes this really easy... I did choose that difficulty after all. I wonder if this counts as free leveling or if it'll make it harder for me on the next Floors...' He thought.

"I'll put those Unused Stat Points into my Strength Stat. I can't even smash the Skeletons in one hit after all."

[3 Unused Stat Points have been allocated to the Strength Stat.]

"Show me my Stats." Alex said out loud.

"Alright." He started walking towards the Skeleton.

'I wonder what difficulty the other guys chose... I hope they're doing okay.' Alex thought.

Three minutes before that, Frank had chosen his preferred Difficulty Setting.

As he adjusted his glasses, he spoke out loud.

"I'll choose the Medium Difficulty."

[You have selected the following difficulty.]

[Medium.]

[Clear Requirement: Defeat 30 Gray Wolves.]

'Gray Wolves? So I'm supposed to kill 30 of those ferocious animals?' Frank thought.

The next second, piercing howls resonated from inside the dome.

Frank turned in that direction immediately, and there they stood, three wolves on the larger side of those on Earth.

Their pelt was gray and their fangs looked deadly.

The monsters were about a hundred meters away, unaware of Frank's presence.

'How can I fight them barehanded? This doesn't make sense... Especially for the Medium Difficulty. Is there some hidden...'

His thoughts were interrupted by the System.

[Compensation for choosing a Higher Difficulty Setting will now be awarded.]

[You have received 10 Unused Stat Points.]

[You have received one Iron Dagger[F].]

[The Item can be found inside your Inventory.]

"Beginner equipment, that's what am talking about! Open Inventory." Frank whispered with shiny eyes.

A digital spreadsheet appeared in front of him.

Only one of the many squares was full.

Frank raised his hand and selected the square.

The next instant, a dagger made of iron appeared in that same hand.

He grabbed it tightly before swinging it many times to get used to that sensation.

A smile was on his face as he swung the weapon.

'This is going to be fun.' Frank thought.

He turned his gaze towards the Gray Wolves.

"Status Window."

'My Sense Stat is the highest, which is pretty good. After all, it is the Stat that helps detect enemies and stuff. Against these guys though, I'll have to invest into my Agility Stat. My Strength Stat is also pretty low but... I do not need much strength seen I have this weapon. I'll need to be fast enough to dodge and attack. There are three of them at once after all.'

"I'll put my Unused Stat Points into my Agility Stat." Frank said.

[10 Unused Stat Points have been allocated to the Agility Stat.]

The next second, Frank felt all the stiffness and heaviness from his body go away.

He moved his shoulders and legs around.

'I'm much more flexible than before. My body feels lighter too.'

A devilish smile was on his face as he launched himself forward towards the Gray Wolves, sprinting as fast as he could.

It took Frank less than 10 seconds to close the 100-meter distance.

He was now faster than world-class athletes.

As soon as the monsters noticed him, two of them jumped sideways and one jumped back.

'Trying to encircle me?' Frank thought.

The Gray Wolves showed their sharp fangs as they growled ferociously at him.

Still, he stood in the middle of them.

Frank's gaze went from one monster to the next.

He patiently observed them.

'They really are scary from up close. Maybe I'll let them have the first move.'

A handful of seconds later, the Gray Wolf on Frank's right lowered its body, seemingly ready to jump forward.

'So this is the impatient one, huh?'

The instant the monster was about to launch itself forward, Frank sprinted towards it.

The Gray Wolf, although it lost the initiative, jumped with its mouth open wide.

It aimed at Frank's neck.

He quickly lowered his body and in front of him was the monster's defenseless stomach.

While the monster was still in the air, Frank stabbed its stomach using all his strength with his Iron Dagger and pulled out the weapon the next instant.

The other Gray Wolves had reacted right after Frank had moved, although they were a bit late.

But they were now behind him.

Frank did not waste any time as he moved away immediately.

The stabbed monster struggled to stand as its stomach was bleeding extensively.

As he ran away, the two Gray Wolves followed him.

'Looks like we're evenly matched in Agility. Maybe I'm one out two points higher...' He thought as he continued to run around the large dome.

As the distance between him and the monsters did not get any larger, he stopped running and faced them.

The two Gray Wolves stood in front of him, about 10 meters away.

As Frank focused on his senses, he noticed something.

A drop of sweat fell down his face and onto the ground.

'What... the hell...?'

He realized that he had been breathing extremely heavily ever since he sprinted towards the monsters.

'I can hardly move around now... My muscles are aching and my lungs are on fire. Was it because of the adrenaline that I didn't notice?'

While focusing on the monsters in front of him, Frank whispered.

"Endurance Points."

[Endurance Points: 5/40.]

"What happens if I run out of Endurance Points?"

[If Endurance Points reach 0, loss of consciousness is inevitable.]

[You will lose consciousness until your Endurance Points regenerate themselves.]

'In other words, I'll pass out.'

The two Gray Wolves showed their ferocious fangs as they took a step forward.

'So that's how it is. I might be as agile as they are, but my endurance is nowhere up to their level...'

Frank raised his dagger while taking a step back.

The next instant, a being breathed its last breath.
