Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

Jason took the iron and began to heat it. Trying to remember the old tv shows that showed the steps to forging a knife. he recalled that iron should be and orange-yellow color. He worked the bellows to increase the temperature of the flames.

When the iron reached close to the right temperature Jason removed the iron with a set of tongs. Placing the iron on an anvil he began to adjust to the weight of the hammer in his right hand. Once he found the balance he tapped the hammer down on the ingot.

After the first tap Jason seemed to fall into a sort of trance. Thae hammer came down with a loud bang before rising. Jason's blood began to pound through his veins, his heart in time with the blows of his hammer. His mana started to surge and a sigil appeared on the head of the hammer.

This sigil was incomplete, holding only two runes. One was a standard low level power input rune. The other was unique as it absorbed mana but didnt have any effect. Every time the hammer struck down the sigil shattered and every time thae hammer rose it reformed.

During the forge process Jason would put the ingot back into the flames to reheat it, This gave him a small chance to rabsorb mana. Almost no-one knew he was cultivating while forging except Tobias and a crippled old man sitting in a corner sipping from a flask. Tobias found it strange that jason was multi-tasking, but figured he wasn't putting much interest into the forging. The old man had a feral grin and a fire in the depths of his eyes.

After about four hours Jason came out of his fugue state, to realize he was exhausted to the depths of his soul but surprising felt slightly stronger. "Jess what happened to me?" he asked in worry.

"You should first check your mana pool, then I can try to explain. " Jess said with a hint of excitement.

Looking inside Jason first noticed he only had 3 mana left and only a tenth of his spirit power left. But then he noted that his spirit pool had expanded in size. This was astonishing as according to Jess, something created by someone who was almost a god, the only time that a spirit pool expanded was during ascensions. There were also a few heaven treasures that could increase the spirit pool, but they were exceptionally rare.

"How is this possible? I haven't eaten a heavenly treasure and I am four whole tiers away from ascension?!?" Jason exclaimed.

"You somehow created resonance with the World's Will, I only knew this was possible during ascension. Admittedly it was a very weak resonance so it only increased the spirit pool by two percent while during ascension your spirit pool increases by ten times. But if you can do this every time you forge it will add up." Jess nearly screamed in excitement.

"You crappy mages can now get the hell out of my forge. That girl couldn't even swing a hammer, as for this boy he made a shoddy dagger without hardly even effecting the mana pathways. on top he decided to put a worthless rune on the blade." saying so Marcos threw Jason's 'dagger' on the ground at his feet before turning to leave.

Jason sat in his room staring at the 'rune' on the blade he made. It had already been a few days since he forged it, and he had already decided that blacksmithing would be his second profession. Something about this 'rune' made him feel a connection to it that he just couldn't comprehend. As he thought about it he heard a knock at the door.

Opening the door he saw Rienard, the butler, standing at the door, " Master Jason you have been asked to join the Marquess in her study." Rienard politely stated before turning to leave.

Jason put away the dagger and headed down the stairs and towards Tabitha's study, wondering what she was wanting to see him for.

As he opened the door he was surprised to see the whole Kovar family inside. While he knew that Gerald had returned the day before, but he never expected to see Joseph. He also count understand why they were all here.

"Jason, please come in and sit down. We have something important to talk to you about." Gerald said with a big smile.

""Yeah hurry up 'hero' hahah!" Joseph said with a teasing smile. Anna was practically jumping up and diwn in excitement.

"Umm...ok. I'm kind of confused as to what is going on though." As Jason sat he triwd to figure out what was going on, but try as he might nothing made sense.

"Jason first let me tell you a little story about mine and the Kovar lineage. My maiden name is Majja, which means magic potion. Mages of my bloodline have always had a natural gift towards alchemy. We had hoped that you would also be gifted with alchemy as you are a mage. My family has a rule in place that we may adopt a gifted child but only if they had a great talent in alchemy as well. Unfortunately you have zero talent in alchemy, in fact you are a danger to everyone else when you practice alchemy. " Tabitha said with a rueful smile.

Jason face darkened while listening to her discription of his alchemy. It was so embarrassing. And what was worse was that he had learned that the pill he failed at epically waa considered the easiest pill to create.

"The Kovar lineage is somewhat similar. Kovar means smith. All the qi warriors of my family have been blacksmiths, of different levels, since over one million generations ago. We had no hope for you having a talent in smithing as you are a mage, I mean who has ever heard of such a thing? But when you showed you honest love of blacksmithing we knew that the family laws would allow it." Gerald said to Jason.

" The family laws will allow what?" Jason began to feel a warmth in his heart that he thought died early in his last life.

"We wish to adopt you as a Kovar, while you wont be in the line of inheritance, we want you to be our child if you are willing." Tabitha explained with a smile.

" You wish for me too join your family? Are you serious?" Jason asked with bated breath fearing it was a dream. Jason had loved spendibg time with the Kovar, and they had shown him such love and care. During his last life, Jason's father left when he was only two, and his mother abondoned him when he was ten. He had to grow up alone until he was 18 when the old man taught him to cook. Finding he was an orphan even in his second life seemed like a cosmic joke. But now it seemes he was having a full family, a mother, father, brother, and sister.

"Yes, we are serious. Don't you want to be my brother?" Anna said sounding a little sad and angry.

"Yes. Yes I want you to adopt me. " Jason nearly shouted. Then he was immediately embarrassed by his behavior. He was over thirty years old, at least in his past life, how could he be so excitable?
