Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

Jason tried to perform the martial Arts he had just learned but was constantly interrupted by the attacks from the wooden puppet. He tried everything he could think of to close the distance and get closer to the puppets body, but the puppet was stronger faster and beat him in reach. Even worse it was better at the martial art that War Blade had just taught them, even if only slightly better.

After the thirtieth failure jason decided to 'cheat' a little. He began to try adding the techniques from the martial he learned on earth to his fight. While the martial arts were weaker than War Blade's Jason was already a grandmaster in their forms. With this added help jason was able to get close and even occasionally land a glancing blow. unfortunately he caised no damaged and was still getting his a** kicked .

Thomas kept trying to brute force his way through the guard of the wooden puppet as he realized he didn't have the skill to heat it. But because the strength of the puppet was only slightly weaker, and the speed was significantly higher than Thomas, added with the martial skill of the puppet, thomas kept being thown around like a rag doll while taking a beating.

After roughly two hours, "Stand down that is enough for today. You two suck. jason while you have some minor skill you are weaker than a new born babe, as for you Thomas you are dumber than a rock golem and slower too. If you cannot pass this test within three weeks you will be kicked from my class. you can learn how to use weapons from the guard captain, once you fail. " Kyle said in anger. Kyle was actually very shocked at the twos progress, These puppets had the battle strength of a level five knight squire, six whole levels higher than Jason, and five levels higher than those who had recently broken though. He was amazed at Jason skill improvement, but Thomas was the one who really shocked him. durring the fight thomas realesed a thread of power, one he shouldnt be able to even if he had it. He had realesed bloodline energy. Very few people had bloodlines, and even thoughs who did, had to wait until they reached knight tier at the absolute earliest to use it.

Jason was in the library studying a book on runes. After readibg a little while he would shift to writing notes using a quill with black ink. Every once in a while he would write down a question in red ink. If anyone had been in the library and saw this they would be shocked. The book on runes that jason was studying from was a book about intermediate runes, something that wizards usually worked with not mages. Mages used simple or beginner runes as their IQ could only understand runes of this complexity.

"Thank you Jess. Only with your help was I able to slowly figure these runes out." Jason said with true gratitude. It wasn't until recently he learned that to form a rune on a sigil, you had to completely understand that rune first. without Jess he would be stuck with beginner runes.

"No problem dad. I'm here to help you. besides I could only help this much because of the unique and more advanced studying methods of Earth. " Jess responded. She loved the new methods of learning that Jason had shown her. She had begun to call him da over the last couple of days. Everytime she did Jason couldn't help but smile.

"I was wondering about that. Why are the studying methods here so unrefined?" Jason asked not understanding how such a long lived world could be so backwards.

"I am not sure. But I believe it is because people know they can just increase their inteligence once the advance in tier so they never bother trying to create a better way of learning. I realize know that that is foolish as with this studying method lower and higher level mages will increase in power explosively. In fact we might actually increase the number of people advancing as less would die in the earlier levels. " Jess said with a mixture of wonder for Earth and annoyance at the people of this dimension.

"with these runes I can probably double the power of my attacks while the costs should stay the same. Unfortunately my single ring sigil won't be able to contain the energy these runes will need. that means I will have to wait until I'm a mage acolyte before I can use the new spells. but I can start working on them now. I could even ask tobias to try a few of my spells to see the effects. Hmm. I'll just make four that I will keep from him as my trump cards." Jason said mostly to himself but also for Jess's benefit.

"Ok then lets get started. remember though we need to get to sleep early as tomorror is the ceremony with the king. Also you will have a element once you break through to acolyte so you will need to make spells based on that element as well." Jess quickly reminded.

"Seeing as I am getting my element in a couple of days should I just wait until then to make the spells?" Jason said having just remembered.

"No elementalless spells will always have their place in your repertoire of spells. some beasts or people are completely immune to the elements. Also if you fight a water inclined beast or person and you have fire your fire will most likely be suppressed. " Jess explained.

"Ok as long as I am not wasting my time. let's get started. lets see if I can't increase the defense of the second level mage shield spell. It usually cost eight hundred mana and defends for eight hundred damage. "

After four hours they had only slightly improved the defense by one hundred. While they wanted to continue working it was getting late and Jason wanted to be well rested for his adoption ceremony, so he decided to call it a night.
