Chapter 5 - Ch.4 - First Day In A New World

The group of three moved through the king's castle with purpose as they made their way to the royal library. Once there Sintarra split from the group entering the rows of bookshelves while Ethan lead Xavier to a desk with another robed figure behind it. "Hello I am the woken Xavier Howell and if like to register my party up for a squad." The figure looked up and Xavier met the eyes of an elderly lady whose face was wrinkled and worn from years of service to the library.

"I'll just need you to fill out a form and giving your party members and if you're looking to lead a squad or join one already sanctioned by another woken." Xavier not realizing he had a choice in the squad he could join grew curious. "Is there a list I may look at ma'am?" The woman already having the form in her hand pointed to a small board near the entryway as she placed the paper in Xavier's hand. "Just over there young man. Don't take too long though as there are already others filling out their forms so they may take an available position."

Xavier looked over the tables and noticed the man he met the night before named Tyler. Making his way over Tyler looked up and noticed him. "Hey, there you are. I was trying to look for you last night near the rooms but I guess you entered yours early or something." Xavier looked confused sitting down at the table across from him as Ethan followed him. "you were looking for me?" Tyler nodded and smiled. "I wanted to ask you if you'd be in a squad with me as you seem to appreciate food as much as I do so we'd have something to talk about. You don't have to squad with me if you don't like the idea I just want a fellow food lover. My party member believes in nothing but plant stuff for their diet bleh."

A large book came flying out of the row behind Tyler and hit him in the back of the head before falling open to the ground. "My diet does not concern others or you. If you want to ruin your body eating disgusting meat and pastries you can but I wish to keep to vegetables and the occasional variety." An older woman with sleek black hair and flawless skin walked out of the aisle carrying a few books her hazel eyes looking at Xavier and Ethan. "So you're the ones to join up with us? I'm surprised to not see Sintarra with you, Ethan. And the woken with no element or weapon? Hope you don't plan to have him be much help if he is as childish out there in the real world as he is here."

A second book came out of the aisle hitting the woman in the small of her back. "As you said before that is nobody else's business past our party Rachel." Xavier could almost taste the venom put into that last word as Sintarra said the name. "I don't see how you even have the right to criticize him when you haven't even graduated training yet at your age." As Sintarra continued Xavier raised his hand. "I would simply just like you ask we stop this here and now as we will more than likely work together in a squad." Tyler nodded and added to Xavier's statement. "I agree whatever bad blood there is you'll have to settle it now as we aren't gonna have this be a regular thing."

Rachel looked at Tyler then at Xavier in disbelief. "Do you think it'll be that simple as to just forgive them when they haven't even earned anything in their lives?" "I disagree, whatever they have been given they have also earned for themselves to be acknowledged by someone of importance." Xavier looked up to Rachel and glared her down into submission. "After all Archvald seems to believe them deserving." Rachel's jaw dropped and she burst out in laughter alerting the whole library. "Do you, someone as pathetic as you with nothing expect me to believe that you've met the quartermaster and had him honestly say he had faith in these two?"

Xavier without a word stood up and leaned over the table unpinning the badge he received early that morning and shoved it in her face. "Does this, and the two my party members wear call me a liar?" Rachel looked at the badge and with a look of shock looked to Ethan and Sintarra finding the same badges pinned to their clothing. Without another word she sat and placed the books she held in front of Tyler on the table. Sintarra also placed some books on the table and sat between Ethan and Xavier. "Now that everything is settled what are you thinking Tyler? Make your own squad or we try and join one together?"

"Well I was gonna try and make one with you but we could check and see if there is one that nobody else has joined yet. Unless you care to lead the Squad that is as I don't feel up to it myself." Xavier got up and waved for Tyler to follow him leaving the other three at the table as they went to the board to look at the squads. While examining the board Xavier noticed that there was one already full which had the two boys from the night before that made a scene. "John and Elliot McCarthy. I guess they were brothers after all." commented Tyler as he noticed it as well. "At least I wasn't the only one who thought that last night." Xavier added before he continued his scan over the board.

"Here's one." Tyler said as he placed a finger on a name with no other names attached. "Says Sara Carters. Wonder which one she is from last night?" Xavier shrugged and looked at the symbol beside her name. "Well she is an elemental. So you two would be decent working together in a group while I did whatever I could to support." Tyler nodded and added. "Just hope the person she has from this place isn't as rude or picky about everything as mine is." Xavier seeing Rachel pick a book of the table and throw it towards them reached over Tyler's shoulder and caught it by the spine. "I heard that one too jerk." Tyler simply laughed as if his point was proven before he and Xavier returned to the table to fill out their forms.

Once filled out and requesting to join Sara Carter's party they handed the forms to the librarian. "Thank you both, I hope your parties and squad do well." The lady then got up and walked over to the board writing something on one of the pages with quill and ink. "Well guess it is official we are in a squad together as of now." "I just hope we meet the leader before too long so we can decide if we wanna stay in this squad or not." Xavier nodded and the two made their way back to the table once again sitting down once again.

Xavier picked up a book on monsters and races of the world they were now in and decided to return to the librarian. "Do you by chance have blank paper or even a journal I may have so I can take notes?" The librarian looked up and smiled warmly. "In my last forty years here you're the first kid to ask something to take notes on. Everyone always thinks they can remember whatever they read once. Here you go young man." The librarian reached under her desk opening a small drawer and produced a small leather-bound book. "I have a few of these in case people need them, sorry if it's a bit dusty though dear." she smiled again and Xavier held it in his hands. " I Appreciate it ma'am it helps a lot and I'll use every page." Xavier then returned to the table and opening the book again he tried taking as many notes as he could for each monster species while leaving room for his own notes if he ever encountered them himself.

After coping notes one forty-seven individual monsters Xavier then closed the journal and stretched his fingers before cracking them one at a time. "So who is feeling hungry after some studying?" Tyler was the first to reply. "Not hungry but I'll eat anyway." He broke out into a large grin and the group all got up and Xavier realized he didn't know where they were going to be heading though. "So where do we go to eat I doubt we go to the king's throne room again." Tyler smiled and said. "You're going to love this mate." He then began to lead the way down the hall again and Xavier couldn't help but be curious as to where they were going and what he was going to see next in this castle.
