Shortly after Marshal Holwren left Silver and Kai, a man in all black entered the room. "Hello Mister Silver and Kai, please follow me. I'll be escorting you both into your temporary living space" the man said in a formal tone.
Silver clumsily got up from the chair, with his sword in one hand and Kai's hand in the other. They followed the man until he stopped in front of a guarded door, "This will be your living space for the time being" he stated, not even looking back at the children.
The guard opened the door as the man in all black promptly left. The guard didn't say a word as he gestured for them to enter the room.
Silver led Kai into the room, and as soon as they entered he could hear the door slam shut behind them. Silver looked back before getting a good look at the room "Why do I feel like more of a prisoner than a guest…" he softly muttered, before he quickly disregarded the thought. He wanted answers but didn't bother, he no longer had the energy to care.
Silver let go of Kai's hand before he plopped down onto one of the beds. There were two beds in the room, but Kai followed Silver to his bed and laid down right next to him. Kai quickly fell asleep as Silver laid there with heavy eyes.
He tried to sleep but it was hard as heavy tears forcefully flowed down his cheeks. "I always lose people close to me don't I Nisube?" he muttered to himself. "Just how I lost you in my last life, I lost my parents in this one too. The only person I have left now is Kai…" he said as he looked down at his younger brother, softly tightening his grip on his sleeping brother.
He laid like this for hours until exhaustion overcame him as he softly closed his eyes.
The night passed by quietly until…
*BANG BANG BANG*
Someone was banging on the door with all their might, waking up both Kai and Silver. Silver jumped out of bed while Kai sat up crying from the unexpected noise. Silver tried to comfort Kai by hugging him and patting his head.
The door swung open as the man from last night, Marshal Holwren, could be seen entering, along with his companion from last time as well.
"Can you guys be more subtle when entering our room?" Silver snapped at him.
"Be more courteous when talking to our Marsha-" Holwren's companion tried reprimanding Silver but Holwren put his hand up, interrupting him mid sentence. "My apologies" he said "I thought you'd have been awake by now. It is noon after all."
"I'd like to see how easy it is for you to sleep after your parents die," Silver retorted.
"You're right, my apologies. I'll take that into account for the next time" he monotoned "But for now, please follow me. We have a few tests we'd like you to take part in." He quickly left, trusting Silver and Kai to follow him.
Silver and Kai both walked closely behind him as they made their way through the endless amounts of halls. Eventually they stopped in front of a heavily guarded room.
The men guarding the room promptly stepped aside to let them through. As the door opened Silver was greeted by a primarily bare space, with a blacked out window and a pedestal in the middle. On top of the pedestal there was a glass orb, similar to the one he saw at his birthday party.
"Please, one at a time go up and put your hand on the glass orb" Holwren said.
Silver hesitantly nodded as he walked up and put his hand on the orb. The results however were disappointingly the same, low talent fire. He looked at the fire with disgust, condemning it inside his own mind.
Holwren looked at Silver with disdain upon the reveal of his low magic talent, but simply nodded and gestured for Kai to follow.
Despite how low to the ground the pedestal was, Kai was still much to small to reach for it. So Silver picked him up and whispered "Now put your hand on the orb Kai."
Kai followed the instructions and placed his hand on the orb. Abruptly the orb shined blindingly bright with two colors, a deep black and a bright white that almost completely filled up the inside of the orb.
"Oh?" Holwren smirked, "Very good, now please, my companion here will escort you back to your room. You'll be hearing from me again shortly." Holwren nodded at his companion before he left in the opposite direction of their room.
"Please, follow me" the man said respectfully as he led the way back to their room.
They swiftly entered their room as Silver quickly picked Kai up "Kai you're so amazing! Not only did you have two colors but they were so big!" he exclaimed.
Kai laughed "Yay yay!" He was unaware of what was happening but he enjoyed the bright look on Silver's face and his excited tone.
"You'll grow up to be a great man one day Kai!" he said "I wish I could say the same about me."
Silvers mood suddenly shifted as he thought about how talented Kai was in comparison to himself. Not only that, but Kai didn't get the accursed element of fire like he did. The element that's done nothing but take away the people most precious to him.
