My name is Asura, and I recently completed my graduate degree. I had many resumes filed online and surprisingly just the next day, I was offered a receptionist position at a hotel.
Though working as a receptionist was not the thing I had envisioned in my mind to do. But the lucrative amount of salary is enough of a reason.
The work requirements were: The hotel will be opened from 11 pm until 4 am.
Work schedule: Monday-Sunday, No leave and the salary is $1,500 every month.
If you want to stay employed at the company, you must work for a full year and you cannot leave for any reason.
It is unusual to have only these low work hours and this late at night.
As finding work these days is not simple. I accepted it and arrived at the address given in the recruitment notice at 10:30 pm.
It was just a standard hotel you find at any place. I pushed aside the doors and entered the hotel's lobby and noticed an old man anxiously looking at the clock.
"Hello?" I called out towards him and he swiftly turned his head towards me and excitedly walked towards me.
"Yes, you are Asura, right?" I am happy to announce that you have been recruited by our hotel!"
When I witnessed the old man's excitement and nervousness he showed when I entered the hotel I found it really interesting at the same time I was a little nervous about what was happening. But, before I could get my bearings, I was taken to the front desk by the middle-aged man while speaking.
"In addition to the requirements on the employment notice, there are two requirements during the work period. One is not to speak, and two, you must not leave the front desk."
The middle-aged man gestured at the yellow line that was drawn on the front desk's edge. The yellow line had a few unusual symbols on it that seemed to be drawn like chicken paws.
For the sake of understanding, I will name it a "rakshasa symbol"
"Did you see the entire range clearly?" The old man asked me hastily as he saw me pondering as to what the line and the symbol meant.
I nodded and understood that this is just like not leaving the post, and there is a separate toilet at the front desk, so there is no need to go out and find a solution.
"Why don't you let me talk?" I asked curiously, "Then how can I communicate with the other customers?"
As the old man heard those words, his face looked grim and he looked at me with a stern expression and reminded me with a tone of warning. "Don not worry about why, just remember these two points in mind."
I am earning a monthly salary of $1,500 for working only 5 hours a day. Even If there are some minor inconveniences, what are they in front of such good pay.
As I nodded in understanding the old man smiled and motioned me to take a piece of chalk and write my name on the small woodenboard hanging on the wall.
At the moment I finished writing down my name on the wall the old man trembled like in excitement and his voice changed. "Today is your first day at work. Word hard and Strive for success. Never forget these two requirements and do not violate them."
"So I'm leaving first since I have something to do at home." The old man left the hotel door without looking back, as if fleeing in a hurry.
As I sat down on the front desk chair, I began to wonder about the people who were staying here. After all, it is very important because this is the first time for me to work.
Unfortunately, only numerous cars passed on to the road outside, and no customers came.
"It's so busy out there, so why don't more people come into the hotel?" I mused aloud.
After being bored for a while, I started playing mobile games. Just when I was about to eliminate the opponent, suddenly the Internet data got disconnected, and the characters glitched and no network error appeared.
"What the hell man!!?"
I got supremely annoyed, glanced upwards out of habit, and discovered that the clock had already turned to 11 o'clock, so I decided not to get irritated and focused on the work at hand.
The surprising thing was that there was also no signal on the front desk computer after I turned it on.
Does it mean, the hotel has a fixed network disconnection point at 11:00 clock?
Now that I've graduated from university, I never expected to experience this same thing at my first job too. Students were unable to do anything except sleep when the network was switched off and the lights were turned off in hostel dormitories.
A hotel, however, is not an academic dormitory. Do they need to do this?
"Creak~~~"
My thoughts were broken when an eerie door opening sound was heard, a sixty-year-old woman with a cane walked in. I quickly stood up and prepared to receive her.
This is my first guest, I had to put in more effort to make a favorable first impression, so I stood up and stared at her face which made me froze in my tracks.
This elderly woman's complexion was free of wrinkles, and she was of average height and build, but her hair was as grey as a dark cloudy sky, which is a clear sign of her advanced age.
As she approached, I discovered that the old woman was wearing a mask.
Fuck! She applies her facial mask to go out at this time of the night or is she pretending to be a ghost to scare others. I can't wait to see how scared she becomes when she sees a ghost all by herself, and she wet her pants. It's not that I am cruel, but I was genuinely terrified for a moment.
"Did it change? The name has indeed changed." She arrived at the front desk, peering at the small blackboard on the wall, with a contented smile on her face.
She said, 'name has changed? 'And she is looking at the position of the small blackboard, can't she...can't she see me?
Otherwise, she would just see my face, after all, I am a young graduate, not the old man, can't my face be distinguished from an old man's face?
Unless she has, face blindness!
But she hadn't given me the time to consider, the woman got her room card and had already moved away, and I got just a brief glance of her back. Her quickness surprised me, as even though she was of such advanced age she walks swiftly.
I looked in the direction where she was leaving and found something strange was going on with her.
It was then I noticed that there was no shadow appearing under her.
"Could it be a shadowless lamp?"
So I quickly looked at my feet, and there was my shadow, which showed that It was not shadowless lamps and the old woman is indeed weird.
"Clack clack!"
I was about to call the old woman to ask what was going on, but heard some footsteps as the hotel door was opened again, and a couple who looked to be students came in. They walked together arm in arm, their facial expressions were very sweet.
"Hurry up and register. We need to enter the room fast." The man threw an Id on the table and ordered in an impatient tone.
This made me very upset, I am a staff member here, not your servant. I wanted to tell them off, but I reined in myself thinking it's my first day.
'Asshole! you are so anxious to go to the room to do adult stuff, you look like a lustful ghost, I curse your little brother to be unable to stand up later. Arrogant fool!'
'Haha, I am so talented that I thought of such a great idea!'
I quickly finished registration, and they both took the room card and left. As I looked at them go upstairs, the girl turned her head back and suddenly winked at me. This made the young man very angry and he suddenly at her face.
"Aaah!"
The lady let out a horrific scream, as her neck had been snapped at a straight angle of ninety degrees.
Holy shit, did this man just one-punch killed this woman?
As long as it is a human, no one will be unable to survive their neck bending at a straight 90-degree angle. so in my horror, I swiftly took out my mobile and dialed 100 emergency number of police.
This is a murder, and there's no doubt that when 100 gets here, they will deal with it or else I will be held liable for it.
"Toot!"
A clicking sound was heard on the phone's dialing page, followed by a prompt stating there was no signal and the number could not be dialed.
Fuck!!
I cussed out in exasperation not knowing what to do as I turned to look at the murder scene.
