Winston, Nayel, Julie, and I were gathered in the conference room just preparing for Monday's hearing. It was really nice seeing lawyers in action but hearing their game plans, techniques and strategies was even better not going to lie.
We had been here for over 2 hours when Nayel finally decided to tell everyone to take a break for a while as we had been going over this case for hours. Julie decided to step out for fresh air for a bit while Nayel continued sitting on his chair taking out his phone and scrolling through it. I always wonder what he does on his phone, does he have friends? Surely he does, everyone does but I just can't imagine him making an effort with anyone to be likable. Is that mean? Also, I know he's not on social media because I tried to find him multiple times, as have my friends but no nothing. So what is he doing on his phone when he's scrolling through it, is he playing subway surfers on mute? Why do I even care? I mean, I don't I'm just curious.
I get up to stretch my legs, Winston following behind me. We leaned against the conference room window behind the table.
"I am exhausted" I sigh.
"Me too" Winston's ever-present smile on his face.
"Are you nervous?" I ask playing with the ends of my hair.
Winston flips his hand in the air, "Nah"
I nod, "Good" I didn't get much sleep last night for some reason so I was severely exhausted. I close my eyes for a second as I lean my head back. Thank God It's Friday right?
"So what are doing this weekend?" Winston asks as I open my eyes to smile at him.
"Got major plans with my bed" I joke and he laughs. From the corner of my eye, I see Nayel smile a little, I don't know if it was at my joke. He was sitting right opposite where Winston and I were standing, his eyes focused on his screen.
"So if you're free maybe you'd want to get dinner with me tomorrow?" Winston asks nervously.
I see Nayel's head jolt up as he furrows his eyebrows at us, "Are you asking me out, Mr. Winston?" I asked taken aback but trying to keep it cool.
Winston shakes his head playfully, sliding his hands into his pockets, "Yes" he smiles.
"Need to run that by Holly" Nayel spats glaring at us before turning his attention back to his phone.
Winston furrows his eyebrows, confused, "Who's Holly?" he asks me.
"She's one of our HR representatives," I say.
Winston nods, "Oh right, forgot we work together for a bit" he jokes.
I smile and Nayel scoffs. I fight the urge to flip him off. Why is he so invested?
"Well, why don't we have a conversation with Holly?" Winston smiles at me.
I open my mouth to say something but Nayel beats me to it, "You can do that later love birds, time to get back to the case" his tone sharp as he walks out of the conference room to probably get Julie.
"I'm starting to see what you meant when you said he's an ass" Winston frowns, his forehead creasing.
"Welcome to the club" I purse my lips together and shrug.
....
Winston was sitting on my desk, grinning like a little boy as he picked up the phone and dialed a number into it. He then set it down putting it on speaker.
"Hello" Holly's chirpy voice rings through the phone.
"Hi Holly, this is Winston Scott, I'm a senior attorney here at Jefferson. I think we met when I first got the job offer" Winston says formally making me smile.
"Yes Winston I remember, how are you?"
Winston smiles, just like me he loves talking and making conversation with people, "I'm doing great, how are you?"
"Can't complain. So what can I help you with today Winston?" Holly asks.
Winston stares into my eyes, smiling brightly, "So I want to take my co-worker out for dinner, is there some procedure I need to follow?"
His eyes never leaving mine, "Dinner in a romantic sense?" Holly asks.
"Yes," Winston smiles at me.
"So a date" Holly rings.
"Indeed" Winston nods.
"Who is this employee?"
"The gorgeous Maria Reynolds of course" Winston grins and I blush.
"Oh, what a lovely girl," Holly says and I smile to myself, "So office relationships at Jefferson aren't frowned upon as you might know several employees are in long-term relationships. As for right now, you can go out on a date as long as you can ensure there will be professionalism between the two of you at the workplace. If things continue and you decide to date, you will have to notify me but other than that, it is all a yes"
Winston smiles, "Holly you just made my day"
Holly laughs, "Have fun on your date"
"Thank you" Winston smiles hanging up.
"So is that a yes from you?" Winston raises an eyebrow.
"Sure" I smile.
"If you two are done canoodling" We turn around to see Nayel glowering at us, how long has he been here, "Maria fax these to the Stanleys" he throws some documents at the desk and walks into his office.
Winston gets up from my desk, "I'll pick you up at 7" he smiles.
"Casual or super formal?" I ask as he walks away.
"A bit of both" Winston grins turning back around.
Winston is a really nice guy, he's been good to me, he's very handsome as well. He's been a great workplace companion and friend and I really enjoy his company but I actually have never thought of him in that romantic sense but he ticks all the boxes for what I potentially want in a guy not to mention we get along great and have so many things in common. I guess the date will tell us how things really will be.
