Chapter 24 - It Wasn't Me

"Were you the one who killed the chimera?" an inhabitant from the slums asked the woman.

"What sort of reward can you people give to the ones who have dealt the killing blow to the chimera?" She responded to the person asking with another question herself.

"I-I…" the person choked up on his words, seeing as how destitute they were living here, they could not have possibly had anything to give the person who killed the chimera in return.

"So, nothing, eh? That's fine. It was not me. The one who killed the chimera was that elven boy following me over there." She said as she pointed behind her.

Grim heard it and ducked as quick as he could.

"Shit, she knows we are following her?" Grim was dumbfounded.

"Maybe you were being sloppy with your movement, Grim." Dart added as he chuckled.

"Still, I am awfully surprised that she is not saying I have a chimera with me." Grim thought to himself. "It really is better if she continues to not tell other people about Dart, but what does she get from it?"

After realizing that it would be useless trying to hide from her, Grim showed himself to the slum dwellers. They gathered around him and thanked him, including the old lady who came to the Six Symphonies earlier.

All the while this was happening, the woman who actually killed the chimera was just sitting by a tree. Closing her eyes, it looked like she was taking a break.

After everyone made themselves scarce, the old woman handed a hundred gold coins to Grim.

"I am sure for a chimera hunter such as yourself, this will not be much, but this is all that I have. My crops have not been growing that well lately because I was far too scared to come by and tend to it because of that chimera. Please, take it." She said in a frail voice.

Grim contemplated accepting her reward. But the fact that this was all she had tugged at his heart strings. He gently shoved her hand away with the pouch full of gold coins.

"That's fine, granny. Just pay us back when your crops have grown normally again. I can wait." Grim smiled joyfully at her as he said that.
