He looked pallidly at the wall. His eyes dark as if the light of life had switched off within them. Another day, another meaningless slog. He awoke from the dull bed and drifted slowly to the bathroom where he aggressively threw water at his face. He then placed his hands on either side of the sink and stared at himself blandly.
"What am I doing here?" He asked himself. After a second of contemplation, he wandered back to the bedroom and changed into his school uniform. He grabbed his bag, and then left the unkept room and walked to the mess hall. He was greeted by some friends, which in response he smiled. Not revealing his eyes as he sat next to a blonde-haired boy who kindly smiled at him as he carried on eating his breakfast. School wasn't bad, it was actually ok… the lessons were fun, and the teachers were mildly entertaining. It was the thought of seeing her walking through the halls and staring at him with disgust as he was working quietly during lectures. He reached for the eggs and bacon shyly, as he only grabbed a meagre portion compared to the other boys around him. She just kept coming to his mind, and it drove him crazy. Her final words before quickly turning around and striding off in the distance with such dignity, and yet had left him so… so empty. Even the pain was nulled due to the emptiness of his emotions and his heart. He didn't feel hunger or thirst, but he knew that not eating would catch the attention of his friends, so he ate. Not much but enough to not let them really catch his dim eyes.
Lysa awoke suddenly, her alarm beeping quietly as she rapidly rose from her clean bed. She gently tapped it off and ventured to her bathroom to shower. She smiled as she buttoned up her white shirt and changed. Brushed her blonde hair, humming to her favourite song. Lysa slapped her cheeks twice, as if to fully wake herself up, and leapt up grabbing her bag. She grabbed a wad of chewing gum from a pack she kept next to her toothbrush and left. Lysa happily greeted all her friends in the mess hall as she took a seat with a few friends who had saved a seat for her. She chatted with a smile as they complimented her excessively. This was her day to take, and hers to own! Yet something was missing… Lysa looked curiously around the hall for that boy, him. The one she was so interested in. He was always tidy, always smiling and most of all the light in his eyes that shone so much when anyone talked to him. His brown hair that was always messy, but clean, that dazzling smile that made anyone smile back. He had to be here, Shouldn't he?
After finishing his meal, he went to his first class, alone. He sat in the back, alone. He looked unassuming, that was good. He quietly took notes as the lecturer explained, and every so often could feel something staring. Something watching him as he worked. It wasn't her, was it? No, he was sure it wasn't, so he carried on working. The tables were furnished and the whole school itself excelled in modern learning. He himself had a Mac on him at all times, as did the whole school. After the session ended, he quickly and quietly packed away, as the class erupted into chatter as the teacher left. He didn't want to be noticed. He didn't want to be seen, yet he couldn't shake the feeling someone was watching him. However, this was most days now. Since she left the same tingle down the spine happened almost every lecture. That same feeling as if a pair of eyes were watching his every movement, and he didn't know why. He couldn't get used to the feeling, and yet it had happened every day for months. He fleetingly pushed it out his mind, as he strode to his next lecture.
She found him! Sat unassumingly in the back as usual. He thought she wouldn't notice. She couldn't take her eyes off him. Lysa had been meaning to say thank you for months, but he always left the classroom before she plucked enough courage to go to him, and whenever she had dropped him a note, he had always left it – untouched. He looked less and less tidy and himself when she saw him. She was worried. Maybe next lesson she could talk to him. Maybe she could finally see him smile again. She packed her stuff slowly, talking to her friends as they immediately turned to her when the lecturer left the room. They walked as a group to her next lecture gossiping and laughing as they told stories of boys and school as they journeyed the campus. The next lesson was the same, another lecture where she had already studied the syllabus in advance and took the time to find him again. Lysa had never forgotten the moment he spoke. The moment she saw him, and the moment he smiled. That innocent, beautiful smile. She twirled her blonde hair as she scoured the room to find him.
At the end of the lesson a blonde girl quietly crept on him while he was packing away. He quickly jumped in surprise as she lightly tapped his shoulder. She smiled at him happily as he turned to face her – giving her a nervous smile in return.
"Lysa," She said confidently putting out her hand, "Do you not remember me?"
"No…" He said slowly, as he quickly tried to recall his memory. Before he could remember…
"You helped me pick my stuff up a couple of months ago. I dropped everything and no one helped me but you…"
"Oh… did I?" He said still not remembering this occasion.
"I just wanted to say thank you…" she began beaming a smile at him. All her teeth shined, and she looked…
'cute…' he thought. And then as suddenly as it came, she appeared in his mind again. His mesmerisation quickly turned to sadness as he hastily looked away to leave. As he began to go, she grabbed his arm.
"Thank you," She continued, "I… can I get to know you more?"
"Sure… yeah… sure," He answered stuttering slightly. She let go of him as he scoured off to next period. All he remembered when looking back was her broad smile, and for a second, almost sinister like blue eyes, staring at him.
'Was it her?' he thought, 'Is she the one that's made me feel like I've being stared at?' That was yet to be decided as he wandered off to next period.
