Chapter 10 - Demons Attack

I can't believe what I had heard coming from Zain at all, how come the demons suddenly appeared right now. While we're on this journey to the front lines… it doesn't make any sense and if they're approaching here at the moment.

It could only mean one thing- That the front lines have been destroyed by them.

Riku immediately tells Zain to gather all of the members of this division here, to discuss this demon's issue.

Zain simply nodded as he quickly ran towards the other to inform him about the situation we're having right now.

Knowing that we had to deal with a demon's situation right now, it's probably best for us to hold our training until the matter is resolved.

.

"So Riku? What should we do…" I ask her.

"We wait for the others to assemble here. After that, I will tell us the plan." Riku said that calmly.

Seeing all of this makes me realize something, that I am actually just in charge of healing. When it comes to battle, Riku was the one that took over my role as a captain. As she seems rather experienced in battle compared to the other people on the team.

.

A few seconds later, the whole team assembles right here. Riku then asks Zain about the demons first.

"Are you sure that you saw the demon Zain? You could be mistaken about it…"

Zain shakes his head, "No, I saw it. You tell me to scout the area further and I saw it with my own eyes. A horde of demons is coming this way."

From what I heard earlier when the both of them were talking. Apparently, Zain used to be a scout before becoming a squire. As he had this unique skill called Observer, which could let him see further than any normal human could.

Hearing that makes me realize that all people might have a unique skill of their own. But only I have none as I do belong to this world.

"Is that the case? What will we do then… should we proceed to the front lines and deliver the supplies." Aizar asked.

"I doubt the camp on the front lines still exists if the demons had reached this far, it might be best if we rout back to the main camp," Riku said.

"That's the best option we had… but I don't think the horse is ready yet. They are still pretty tired." Maya said.

"I understand…" Riku paused for a bit as she looked towards Zain, "Zain, how long do you think it takes for the demons to arrive at our location?"

"I am not sure, maybe about five hours or less."

"If that is the case… after three hours, all of you need to leave this place and head back to the main camp. I would be holding them off."

All of the people including me were shocked upon hearing what Riku had just said to all of us. We can't believe that she's going to be here fending them off, just to buy more time to get ahead.

Maya immediately says, "No! I don't want that...If that is the case, I will also be here with you Riku!"

All feel the same way as I disagree with the decision and wanted to stick together.

I on the other hand was afraid of dying and wanted to get out of here. But seeing all of the members of this division reacted this way. I had no choice but to act the same as them.

With a calm smile on Riku's face, "I know but I can't let you, young squires, be killed. You all had much potential to become a better knight than me." She paused for a bit, "Besides, you all had a mission. That was to ensure Ren's safety… we can't afford for him to be captured by the demons."

Hearing that made me shocked for a bit, as I thought I would encounter a demon. It would surely kill me. But to capture me… there must be a reason why they wanted to do that.

The other still argue with Riku on this matter-

"Ehem!" I coughed just to get their attention… "Could I have a say in this?"

Their argument ended the moment I let out the fake cough, as I had gained their attention.

"Sure…" Aizar said.

"I know that you all wanted to be here with Riku which I am as well… but if we don't relay this info to the main camp. A lot of lives would be lost as they're not prepared for this sudden demon attack. But if you wish to be here, then be prepared to bear the guilt of that life that would soon be lost because of you." I said that.

To be honest, I just wanted to head back to the main camp as I knew I would be protected there but simply saying that would just make me a coward. Which surely would ruin my reputation…

.

All went silent after hearing what I had said as if they all were thinking about the words I gave them.

"You heard the leader of this division… and he's right! I am buying this time not just because I wanted to let you guys escape. But to reach the main camp and warn them ahead of time, Captain Kaze was able to devise a plan." Riku said that.

"But-" Zain said but interrupted.

"No… listen to Ren and me. Besides, if the main camp failed to withstand the demons ambushed, the nearby village would get ravished by them and half of this area would fall into the territory of the demon." Riku said that to convince them to leave.

.

After a few minutes, the three of them give a nod.

"We understand, we will be heading back and relay this information…" Zain said.

"Good that I was expecting out of you… Make sure to do that and don't let my sacrifice be in vain." Riku said that.
