Chapter 37 - 37

Saera froze, disbelief on her face. She petted the dog again, a bit more firmly this time. The dog didn't whimper, just watched her with wide set, glassy eyes.

"Do you feel better?" The dog stared at her for a moment, then put its head back down on the cushion.

All of her efforts had worked. The fever the dog had been battling had broken overnight, and the trembling had stopped. When she tried to coax the dog into eating a paste made from food and medicine, the dog licked the food weakly off of her hands before going back to sleep. Saera timed it carefully, making notes in her journal. After thirty minutes had passed, the dog still had not vomited.
