A handsome doctor had approached Sabrina, behaving as if he had just bump into a long lost friend. Then he mentioned the name of his dragon shapeshifter clan. Sabrina was both surprised and elated.
"You're a dragon!" she exclaimed.
"Yes, yes, we are the same, except different clans," he replied, grinning happily.
She couldn't help launching herself against him and hugging him. She is so glad to finally meet another dragon shapeshifter from another clan. One that will not go to her council of elders and blab about her whereabouts. Or turn her in.
"But, how did you know? I can't detect others at all," she said once they've stepped apart from the hug.
"I felt a surge of power earlier so I came out to check," he told her.
"I am Sabrina by the way and you are…a doctor…wait…you have healing powers?" This is rather good news. Not only did she meet another dragon but that dragon has healing powers too, something that she sucks at big time.
He introduced himself as Dr Kaito, a 3000-year-old dragon from the Heaven's Descent Clan. But he is not a clan elder so he is merely spending time in the human world to find his human match.
"Yes, I have healing powers although the hospital is the worst place to meet a match," he said. "They are either too sick or dying or already taken,"
Sabrina is looking up at him in wonder. This is her first time ever bumping into another dragon shapeshifter from a different clan in the human realm. In all the 10 years here in the human world, she could never find even one other dragon shapeshifter from any of the other clans. She was beginning to doubt that they even live among humans in the human world. As it turns out, not all dragon shapeshifters need to mate with humans to reproduce so not all of them have to live among humans.
"Well, I am just glad to meet another one of my kind!" Sabrina said. "I was kinda getting sick of humans and their unnecessary drama," she told him, rolling her eyes for good measure, thinking of the whole shitty drama with Kavan's snobbish affluent family. Kaito laughed.
"You know, we should exchange numbers so that we can meet up for drinks later," he suggested.
She nodded excitedly. It is so good to meet someone on the same wavelength and someone with something common. Another dragon not from her clan! Beat that. She gave him her number and he immediately sent her a text with a smiley emoji. She saved his number. She looked around to make sure there were no other mortals around them. Then she lowered her voice.
"Can you feel my powers, my aura now?" she asked. Kaito tilted his head for a moment, his face in full concentration, and then he shook his head.
"No, that was why I was a tiny bit hesitant to approach you earlier because it was so faint," he said. He frowned. "Why are you blocking your aura?"
"It's a long story…it's just say I am in hiding from my clan elders," she said. Maybe she can ask Kaito for help. Instead of being shocked or even appalled by her confession of being on the run from her clan elders, he actually chuckled and looked impressed.
"Wow. Way to go Sabrina!" he said. "I wouldn't know how to run away from my clan elders and go into hiding!" he added.
That's not good. How is she going to ask for his help then?
"Aw dang. I was hoping I could ask for your help on what I should do," she told him. He reached out and patted her warmly.
"Let's meet up later, when I get off duty, and we can brainstorm and find a way. What d'ya say?" he asked, his bright green eyes twinkling cheerfully. Hope filled her. At least here is another dragon whom she can ask for help from.
They continued chatting a few moments more, Kaito telling her about his journey of fitting in as a doctor in a human hospital and trying hard not to use his powers too much to be suspicious. Then Kavan came walking out. He stopped short when he saw Sabrina chatting and smiling to a tall, well-built and exceedingly good looking man who appeared to be a doctor. He went over to them and automatically stood next to Sabrina, placing his arm around her shoulder, as if staking a claim on her.
"Sab. It's settled," he told her cryptically. Then he turned to Kaito. "Who's this?"
"Oh Kavan! Such good news! He is another dragon from another clan, he may be able to help me with my clan elder problems," she told him excitedly. Her earlier annoyance and anger at him have evaporated. Kaito has given her much needed hope and everything just seems better.
Kavan studied Kaito suspiciously. He extended his hand.
"I am Kavan, Sabrina's fiance," he said.
Kaito raised an eyebrow.
"Wow. Really? Sabrina, you found your human match?" he turned to Sabrina, ignoring Kavan's proffered hand. Kavan lowered his hand and looked at the two dragons awkwardly. He looked and felt out of place.
A frown creased Kaito's brow.
"Wait, you can't be more than 2,000…how did this happen?" he turned to look at Kavan again. Studied the mortal man. Scrutinising him and then he turned back to Sabrina.
"He is obviously your match…this is so special, I've never heard of such a thing!" he exclaimed. He turned to Kavan and grabbed his hand and shook it.
"You are one lucky man," he told Kavan. He released Kavan's hand and looked at his watch. "Well, break time is over, I better head back inside before they wonder where I disappeared to," he told them.
"So, we on for later? He can come along too," he addressed this to Sabrina. She nodded.
"Yes, I'll text you the place later, maybe we can grab dinner too?" she replied.
"Eh, you eat human food too? Wow. I have found a kindred spirit!" Kaito winked at her. He nodded at Kavan. "See you lovebirds tonight," he said and then turned and walked inside.
"Phew. I am so glad to meet a fellow dragon!" Sabrina gushed, still smiling as she watched the tall, handsome doctor stride purposefully back into the hospital. Then she remembered the whole sordid nonsense with Kavan's family, fake marriage and witnesses and all that shit. She turned to look at him.
"So, what happened in there? Did you confront them?" she asked him.
