10th July 1997
It was raining.
The day Jack was born it was raining.
Maybe it was just a coincidence, maybe the heavens were crying alongside that newborn baby. Or maybe, and only maybe, it was an omen to that baby's future life.
Jack was born as the sole heir of the great, famous and prestigious Immortal Family. The Immortal Family has existed since nobody knows how long. All people know is that it has always been there at the top of the pyramid.
The Immortal Family has always been the white shark on top of all industries. No matter if it was in tech, clothing, furnishing, transport, food or even cinema and music, it was unquestionable that the Immortal Family was the king and all the others were just mere peasants.
Jack's birth brought a lot of happiness to the Immortal Family as everyone knew that Jack's parents were struggling to get a child for many years.
Even though the Immortal Family has never been shaken, the lack of an heir to the Immortal family's business for many years started to stir the deep waters and something was starting to brew, especially seeing that Jack's parents weren't turning any younger and no news about any pregnancy of the Madame were being heard.
So of course the day Jack was finally born a big celebration had to be made.
But there was neither a celebration, nor happiness that day. Because Jack's mother, better known to everybody as Madame Immortal, passed away minuts after bringing Jack to life.
An a day that was supposed to be a celebration, was turned to a mourning day.
Jack's father, also known as Mister Immortal, knew that Madame Immortal's death was a big blow to the family. With the Madame no longer alive, him being older every day and just a baby that still needs to learn how to walk the deep waters that had calmed down after the news of the pregnancy would stir again and many little sharks would try to get some meat out of the giant white shark and even try to make him bleed and die.
Mister Immortal hoped that he could hold at bay all those little sharks for, at least, the time his son needs to grow up.
He was really confident that his son could solve any kind of problem one he grew up. After all, he was an Immortal.
So with that mindset, Jack's father hired the best teachers and made Jack attend the best academies in the world.
But to Mister Immortal's disappointment, Jack's teachers never gave good reviews of him and said he was just mediocre.
Jack rarely talked and he always carried that dead look like bored with life. How could a little boy be bored with life?
He barely spoke a few words when he was only with his dad and didn't talk at all with his teachers nor with kids of his age. So he was diagnosed as retard when he was 6.
When Jack was 10 something happened that almost no one knew.
It was the International Science Fest on Jack's Academy, and many important people from around the world came to the event to view what inventions those so called geniuses had created and were willing to show to the world. For sure, many of those inventions could be interesting to see, or even buy to be sold on the market.
Jack was just standing there, in the middle of everyone and no one when a a blonde man passed by his side with a little group of people.
When the blonde man saw him, he pointed at him and laughed with his group in what seemed to be german language:
"Look, he's that retard of the Immortal Family that doesn't even know how to talk. Hey boy, if it wasn't for your status you wouldn't even be here without being a genius or an invitation from the head himself. You don't understand what I'm saying but don't worry because my Vogt family will treat all your family's assets that we can take well once your family falls from grace. Hahahahaha."
Jack raised his sight just barely to meet him in the eyes and with that dead lookhe always carried, he uttered in what sounded a perfect german and a voice loud enough so only the blonde man could hear:
"I'll make sure your family will be the first to fall. You can prepare your funeral within six years. It will be cheaper if you prepare it with time. But you won't need money where you go after your funeral."
The blonde man was utterly shocked. The retard of the Immortal Family had answered and threatened him in a perfect german. He even felt a chill when he stared into his eyes. Not because his sight was threatening but because it looked like in Jack's eyes he was not worth anything, as if Jack could get rid of him in a mere second if he wanted to, but just didn't care. A white shark must be wary of other little sharks, but an elephant doesn't care about ants.
Just after saying those words Jack left, and the blonde man's group looked worried when they looked at him, who seemed like he had seen a ghost and had been turned to stone.
"Hey Thomas are you ok? You look weird"
Thomas noticed his situation and just shook his head thinking everything had been a misconception.
"Yeah maybe I'm feeling ill cause all we drank yesterday, I think I'll pass for this event and just go home to sleep it off."
When Jack turned 16 the world was shaken.
The Immortal Family had been in a dire situation the latest years with Mister Immortal falling ill and Jack, well, being Jack.
Many people started to think that finally the giant white shark was going to fall but they couldn't be more mistaken.
When Jack turned 16 he could be considered and adult, and as an adult, he could already take charge of the Family Business if so he decided, but nobody expected him to do so since to everyone was know that he was a retard.
But a breaking news appeared in all the newspapers. On Jack's 16th birthday he appeared on the director's board room and announced that he was taking charge of the company from there on.
No one knows what he did or how he did, but every senior in the company that was against Jack literally disappeared. No records of him remained, like that person never existed to begin with.
Not even one year passed and the company restored its previous state prior the Madame's death and even expanded more at the expense of other families like the Vogt Family that could only see as it was devoured by a superior being.
During that year everyone came to know that Jack not only was not a retard but he was the number one in all fields.
He was a genius playing any kind of instrument, in poetry and writing, in maths and science. He looked like the perfect man to everyone.
Even Mister Immortal was so proud of his son that the last words he told his son with a smile on his face were:
"I knew you couldn't be a retard, how could our son not be the best? Your mother always said that our son would be born to be the greatest Immortal of all. That he would be perfect and that this world would be too small for him. I always trusted your mother's instinct, she was the wisest person I've ever met. I'm sure she's proud watching how her son turned into. I can finally rest seeing how she was right. Heh, she was always right, even in death, she is still right."
Mister Immortal's eyelids started to feel heavy and with the most handsome smile you could ever see on someone he uttered his last words:
"I'm meeting you again, I've got to tell you how amazing our son is. I've missed you... Elaine."
Silence, the dead body of a once great old man, and a boy shaking trying not to shed even a tear.
If there was someone else on that room, they could have seen something unique, despite still maintaning his characteristic dead look, the young lord of the Immortal Family shed one tear. Only one tear. The only and last tear he would shed in this life.
Years passed, and everyone knew how amazing the lord of the Immortal Family was and how he had brought greatness to the Immortal Family. Everyone praised him and envied him the same way.
But only Jack knew how he felt. He felt tired, bored, with lack of ambition.
When you are on the top with no challengers what do you do? When you were a genius from a young age what do you do? Being the number one in all fields is boring.
"I want to feel emotions. Dad always told me to smile more and change my dead look, but I can't, because I don't feel anything. I want to fail, and fail again to just fail again so that when I finally succeed I can feel something. But I never fail."
The peak is lonely, very lonely. And Jack was alone in the peak.
Jack was laying on his large bed, alone, like all his life has been. He looked to the ceiling and said:
"Mom, you were right about something. This world if too small for me. Earth is boring and people on Earth are boring. Everyone says I'm perfect but I think I'm far from perfect. In fact, I think I can barely be considered good. Maybe I was born in the wrong world."
Those were Jack Immortal's last words on Earth.
