Out in town Julian and I were just on patrol. It was common for us to be on the lookout for any vampires that wanted to hunt. The situation on the vampires was getting worse. Dave and Ave's bar and Grill had Dylan as a bouncer but none of the other businesses had someone to help protect. As we walked we didn't notice anything unusual. Just people being people however it seemed to be less and less busy from when I got here till now. As we walked some more, something caught Julian's attention. He went after it and I followed. It was like chasing after a dog when it sees a squirrel since technically I had to run after him. I ran into an alleyway were I saw what he was chasing after, a girl. I simply shake my head and went up to him.
"Hey, what the hell was that Julian."
He doesn't say a word, he only points at the girl, who was wearing a hoodie and was a little bloody. She looks at us with a sense of fear and only shakes her head. "Please....go...go away...they'll be here...please." I try to take a step forward and the girl slightly hisses reveling her teeth. I step back and we both soon heard a van pull up. Out comes a few more people and they all look at us. Some smile and one speaks.
"Merissa, you didn't tell us you brought us food."
"One smells really delicious. A wolf maybe?"
"It is one of the wolves, oh we are gonna have so much fun with him, as for the human. We kill him here and now."
Me and Julian ready ourselves when a car crashes into their van. All of us are in shock and I run to see if the other people in the car are ok. A vampire follows with me, acting as if we both weren't going to kill each other. I look into the passenger side and couldn't see anything since the windows were tinted. However the vampire sees something on the drivers side and soon something stabs his head. He falls on the ground and a person comes out of the car wearing a gas mask, long trench coat, boots, black pants, and a black shirt. The person sees the other vampires and calmly fires a few bullets at them, hitting them and killing them instantly. This point the other bystanders run and flee as the fighting starts. I go up to Julian, who was hiding behind a trash can.
"You ok?"
He nods and looks at me. "This is very....weird."
"Strange indeed, wonder who this is?"
"Can't sniff who it is but it ain't human that's for sure."
We watch the person kick, punch, and shoot their way around these vampires. As they get the last one on the ground and snapping its neck, they look up and see the two of us. They tilt their head before looking at the both of us separately. It waves for us to follow before running off. We both look at each other confused when we heard sirens. We decide to run away from the scene and follow the person. As we follow the person Julian starts to recognize the area we were running to and he smirks chuckling a little. He stop for a while catching our breath and then person comes up to us. We look at her and Julian chuckles more looking back at the person.
"You know, love the look."
Muffled by the mask the person says "Yeah, and last time I remembered your wolf ass was silent." They take off their mask to reveal that it's a another vampire. All pale like and stuff. She looks at me before looking back at Julian. "Hanging out with humans I see. What's your name?"
"Daniel Harris, yes the Harris hunters" I say, still trying to catch my breath.
"A Harris, shit things are really getting worse."
Julian nods and looks at the girl. "Jessica, what are doing here? Thought you guys were in Las Vegas?"
"We were, mother wanted to come back home. Some dude named The One got killed in the next town over so mother wanted to pay respects. Since we're back home may as well stay. Then we saw that you guys failed to kill the rest of the other Unworthy."
"Sorry, how's your other sisters?"
"You don't wanna know, other than Melissa running off with some dude Yuri is well, still mad about what happened."
Julian just sighs and looks at her. "I need to speak to your mother."
"What for?"
I chime in. "Help, we need to help each other."
"Oh really, how do you think we should do that?"
"A name your mother might know, that is if she knows of the name. Jane Rosland."
Jessica looks at me with a questionable look. "Why would my mother know of that name?"
"Long story, can we see her?"
"He can, not you Julian. Pretty sure when you get near the house Yuri would want your head."
He scoffs and chuckles. "Sorry, but she needs to get over it."
Jessica grabs him by the shirt collar and speaks up to his face. "I said what I said wolf."
Julian wimpers a little. I i get in the middle of the two. "Guys, please. Julian go home let them know what happened. Jessica right? Let us go see your mother."
"I agree." Jessica lets go of Julian and he looks at me before leaving, as if hesitating a little. As he walks away Jessica sighs and says "Fine, come. Just don't do anything dumb got it." Like a happy puppy Julian turns around and follows us to the house were Jessica and the others are living. The house is like an old style mansion, probably been around since the 1920s or so. Jessica enters the house first and signals us to wait. She comes back outside and smiles "Lucky you Julian, Yuri isn't here. Come on in you two I'll go get mother." We enter the house and jessica closes the door. As we enter the living room Jessica calls for her mother. "Mother dear, oh mother dear I brought guests mother." We hear a door open and footsteps coming downstairs. A tall woman is guided to the living room when she sees us to but is mainly focused on Julian. She shakes her head and speaks like as if she was raised in a fancy like estate.
"My my, if it isn't the pup Julian, and whos this?" She looks at me.
"Daniel Harris." I stand up and greet her like a gentleman.
"A Harris? What is a hunter like you doing here?"
"Mother, the situation among the town is getting obviously worse. It seems the wolves didn't do a good job killing the Unworthy."
"Is this true?" She looks at Julian who just has his head down.
"Madam, up until now the Hunters League had no idea about this madness. Actually my mission was to ask about the energy event that happened a year ago that lead to this. It's only up until now that it became my problem. The H.L. has no idea and i intend to keep it that way."
She looks at me and nods. "Thank you for clarifying yourself, but I was asking Julian dear." She looks back at Julian, who still had his head down. He just signs yes. The mother shakes her head and lets him be. "Since it seems that Julian is obviously no talking, mister Harris, what do you need?"
"Mother he said-"
"I said Harris, Jessica. Not you."
"Jane Rosland, that name ring a bell."
"You mean the halfling wolf girl that got killed by that other halfling cult leading wolf man with the same last name, her? My what's wrong she back from the dead or something?"
I shake my head. "No, it's about something she left behind, notes or something among that matter."
"No, nothing of that sort here."
"Damn, cause on those notes it explains on how to survive the aftermath of an energy surge incase one happened again. The vampires are said to have that piece of the notes. John was certain that you had it."
"That fool, and you are too for believing him. No the note isn't here, but I do know a girl who does. She goes by the name of Chelsie. She's a royal like us however her family has just informed me she had personal matters to discuss down somewhere in New Orleans."
I shake my head again. "So in other words-"
"In other words your note isn't here. Anything else, if not then my patience with you both is gone. Especially with him. Now leave."
"But can't we at least discuss-"
"What is there to discuss then, if it's anything to do with the Unworthy then leave, we can take it from here."
"But-"
"No buts mister Harris, thats final."
I sigh and look at Julian to leave. As he gets up we hear the door open and another girls voice comes out as the door closes. "You guys, weird stuff happening outside. Cops blocking 4th like Jesus some people do not how to drive, oh also a package came. Probably...my...stones." The girl looks at Julian and just runs off upstairs not saying another word. Jessica chases after her and so does the mother. She glares at us to leave and we both do.
