So, I was listening to some of old hits to try and find a 'spark', if you get what I mean. I was walking on the side walk when all of a sudden, a car almost ran into me. Oh my God!!! I saw my life flashing before me! Yes, I am immortal, but I can still feel pain.
"You're a crazy human being. I could have died you know. If you can't drive straight, go back to the DMV." Now, call me gutsy but yeah, I actually yelled that out to a person, awesome! And I am probably dead. I have always been a bit of a coward and also a gutsy person who first jumps before she looks and someday, that may get me into trouble.
I watched as the car door slowly opened and what I would describe as an Adonis stepped. Maybe even the Greek gods did this guy no justice. He was simply gorgeous but....
"If you're blind don't think that everyone is." He says in a sexy voice and I feel my panties get drenched just from the sound.
It took a while for the words to actually sink in and when they actually did, I was mortified. Outrageous!! He was clearly in the wrong yet the audacity to try and lecture me. Anyway, I think I'm going to be late for my lecture.
"Whatever. I'm disinclined to explain myself. Though drunk driving is against the law and not safe." There I said it. We immortals have modified genes so our bodily functions are better than for the average human. Yeah, I have a sharp nose. I swiftly turned me head, keeping the eye sore out of sight, otherwise I might just pounce on the guy.
" Who is this human girl? And why does she reek of essence?"
" What's essence?" Seriously, they drink and drive and actually have the audacity to question me? "What's essence?" I asked again, getting slightly angry since they are ignoring.
"Is it some type of drug?" I ask again trying to make sense of their conversation. I hear the another voice and I realize that there was actually two of them and I finally looked up and, oh my God!!! Why do overly handsome men keep appearing in front of me this morning? This guy was even hotter than first. Slightly taller and buffer too.
As I got ready for another weird Q&A, my phone suddenly vibrated and I literally almost fainted! My partner had texted me a barrage of messages. She is really quick with those fingers. Makes her a good lab partner. Anyway, we had a presentation today and I'm so late that I'm dead! Yeah, weird wording there. Anyway, I sprinted off leaving behind two flabbergasted faces.
"She has essence, and she called your crazed drugged state drunk. Only companions can do that."
"Shut up, George. Ain't no way in hell I'm allowing a human be my companion! She is so petite!" I hear their voices echo off in the distance but I couldn't care less. We might never bump into each other and I had bigger fish to fry.
So, I managed to get to school and successfully finished our presentation without any accidents and no, I'm not telling you about the presentation. Later on, me and my partner went to a cafe across from the university to get some lunch. "JJ, if you had been any second more tardy, I would have shaved you bald and sent you to a monastery."
"Zelda, come on. I wasn't that tardy. I was five minutes early."
"JJ, don't you dare try to shirk off responsibility. "
Yeah, that's me and Zelda. We are two broken souls trying to find our place in the world. I was lucky to have met her. When I got broken, she was the one who put my pieces back together. She helped me re-love this world. Ah, my rock. We had playful banter while waiting for our orders and Zelda's boyfriend. Lucky girl could get a guy to love the broken her.
"Sontag's not here yet. Why is he delaying so much? Argh, I'm surrounded by tardy people." She cries out a she slumps onto the table top. Did I mention that because of what happened, Zelda became a neat freak and miss punctual? Yeah, she was almost violated but Sontag was her knight. Though she was pretty beat up, she was fairly okay. Sontag helped her get through rehabilitation though, she would constantly rub at her skin if she gets anxious or agitated.
"C'mon, patience, patience. He will be here soon enough. Let me go use the rest room as we wait."
"Alright, but don't die from there."
"Why would you say that?"
"I just have a bad feeling. Go quickly and hurry back."
"Yes ma'am."
Yeah, Zelda's superstitious but yeah, that's my Z. Suddenly, I got a tingly feeling. It was a feeling that was both foreign to me while strangely familiar. As I pondered on whether I should really use THESE rest rooms, Sontag joined us at the table. He and Zelda's relationship is weird. Why? Well, Sontag is a quiet guy with very little presence while Zelda commands attention with her very aura. You get what I mean? Her appearance alone is enough to have heads turning her way.
She is five feet and nine inches tall with a small face and a slim body. Her magenta bob cut makes her stand out straight away. Anyway, they make it work and that's awesome.
"JJ, still isn't going to use the rest rooms?"
"Oh, I'm still going. Just wanted to see Sontag before leaving."
"Let me guess, JJ. Zell's scared and whatever so you're having second thoughts."
"Sontag, the mind reader. We pay our respects."
"Ha-ha, very funny Zell. Don't worry, Jay. I am here in case anything happens alright?"
Yeah, that's right. Sontag's here so I'll be alright. Social phobia's catching up, huh? As I stood to leave, I felt two gazes on me. One was malicious (something I tried to get used to) while the other was, probing?? Very strange day. This cafe didn't have separate rest rooms like other public places. So, both genders could enter at the same time. I don't know if it was paranoia but I checked all the cubicles, just in case. You can never be too sure.
Ever since a certain incident, public places had become a big problem. Even university was hard for me at first, but slowly I managed to integrate back into society with the help of some trusted people and a lot of therapy. Anyway, as I was lost in thought, I heard someone barge in. I say barge because the door hit the wall due to the impact. I froze.
All of a sudden in a frenzy, I got dressed and prepared for whatever was out there. This was no different from that time. The memories threatened to drown, suffocate me but, I had promised myself and my loved ones that I would have a fighting chance again. As I pep talked myself, I heard something that made feel like a bucket of ice had been dunked on me head.
"Lil bunny, come out and play."
