Chapter 34 - Cannon Fodder

"Wait we're serious?" Lyra was looking at an elevator hesitantly.

"I thought this was a joke and a game, we aren't seriously going to drop all these elevators are we," she looked unnerved. "Won't they start hunting us down?"

Pride laughed, "That's funny Lyra, you can control your human right? If they could hunt us down they would of already, weak humans deserve to die."

"Of course." The she cat replied. "I just wanted to make complete sure."

Pride tusked his tongue."Pity, I had high hopes for this group after Snow's lovely showing of control over his human. Don't make me repeat the Jagged incident."

Pride's whole body convulsed for a moment then he seemed to regain his feet.

"Such a temperamental little human, I think he might have gotten annoyed. Guess I won't be letting him out again." Pride stated. "I want you all too completely destroy what's left of your human's minds over the next week. Seems I still have a bit of work as well."

Pride turned to Lyra and motioned to a set of cables. She gulped and her lynx form shook as she barely dragged her claws across the cable, it was enough. The thing shattered into the ground but Lyra didn't watch. She kept looking at Pride. Then he looked at her and she quickly looked away.

I saw his lip twitch, but he accepted her results before motioning to a second one.

This time Lyra dragged her claws across it in rage sending it to the ground a small tear in one eye. She was another one I'd have to be careful of.

Dart was last. He just grinned evilly as he sent three elevators crashing down. By now I could hear the hurried footsteps of people starting to make their way up here.

Pride grinned. "Time to go." He glared at Lyra. "We will work on making sure you don't have any hesitations in the future. Dart if you will."

"Right." Dart used his bobcat powers to form a small round portal like gate that spun in a black and purple color as if ripping space. Maybe it did rip space.

Beyond it I could barely see one of the empty buildings from the deserted school. Pride picked up a paw and stepped through the portal. I quickly followed without looking back. I didn't do any murdering, it's not my problem if some random humans die. They are just the cannon fodder of the story.

I was playing with more than a little fire. Whatever you do don't hesitate, I thought to myself. Hesitation will get you killed.

(Claw it up right Snow?)

(Hehe, just don't get me killed, I plan to do the killing.)

We left behind the tower and the growing signs of sirens into the peaceful emptiness of the deserted city.

"This will be our base." Pride stated looking at the building ahead of us.

I glanced over at it. It wasn't all that special, it might have even been more dilapidated than the ones around it. It was one of the tallest ones though but the roof had a hole in the side. It would hurt to fall from there for sure, heck even as a cat that distance might kill me.

"I guess it's good?" Dart said, "We will be able to see others coming."

Pride at least seemed satisfied with the tall cold and dilapidated building. Maybe it reminds him of his soul?

"So what's next?" Asked Lyra.

"We go hunting," Pride turned to me. "Snow, did you get a good look at any of their humans?"

I paused as if thinking, of course I did!

"Some," I admitted, it would of been suspicious if I didn't since I knew he would of seen a faint blur. Now to make it vague, "Spot has red hair, Stripe was darker, maybe a brown? Not a good look at their faces sadly. A brainless worm was in my way."

That should match what he already knew.

He seemed to buy my answer thankfully.

"No matter, we will start with the wildcat." Pride continued.

I raised a cat eyebrow, "you saw his human?"

"We both did." Lyra replied. "Tiny little thing, male, brown hair. I could easily pick him out." She pulled out a drawing pad and started sketching.

(Great piles of feathers! She can draw with those paws?)

A second later Lyra held up her masterpiece and I nearly choked. A first grader could draw better, was that even human?

Pride frowned, "I shall obtain a better reference for our next meeting two days from now. For now you are dismissed."

He sent us on our way curling up onto of a block of cement like it was his throne. Maybe it was.

I wandered home before changing in an alley. I should just go back to my original plan of killing all cats. Surely I can catch Ryan and Noah's kitties outside of them.

(Won't work)

(Oh yeah why is that? Stop reading thoughts not directed at you.)

(Stop sending them to me then.)

(How would I manage that? Stop thinking?)

(That would work.)

(You are impossible, maybe I should still start with you.)

(Go start with your friends, if they are cat-less then moving them to another planet is less of a problem)

(Oh yeah? How am I going to manage that exactly?)

I got back to my place and pulled my key out of my pocket. It was a new building since I had terminated my cat destroyed place. By destroy I might of set it on fire and called the fire station. But hey its a win-win, no one finds out I am a cat, and the landlord gets insurance. Really not an ethical problem, insurance companies make too much anyway, if I have to watch another dumb ad with a big bird I might go insane. Clearly I am doing the world a favor.

"Hi Cody."

I nearly leapt off my new porch.

"Ryan!" I looked at her in shock. "What?"

"I kind of need a place to stay for a few days, do you mind?"

I opened the door and beckoned her in. Then raised an eyebrow waiting for an explanation.

"Sorry it is just, I might have slipped up slightly and been seen by a snow leopard, which makes no sense I know, what I mean is I am hiding from a cat, a team of cats, the evil alien cats. A cat might kill me. Can I stay?"

"Of course." I answered smoothly.

I closed and locked the door.

(Snow we might of found a good starting point for freeing my friends.)

Outwardly I added, "why don't you tell me more about this cat."
