The others left and I kept my eyes on the wildcat. How exactly was I supposed to save him? I ran through several plots and their weaknesses in my head.
On our social media, accurately named 'The Demon Cats' several other messages were being left. Mostly from angry humans. The one caught my eyes, it was from them, 'Heroes With Fur' the names made me cringe almost as much as the fact that the cats were using social media.
I didn't bother to reply, that was Pride's job and he planned to leave them hanging for the night.
"Would you stop staring at me! It's creepy you psychopath!"
I blinked at the little cat making a fuss while his human kept glancing toward the door.
"Of course I get stuck with the child murder!" He hissed again, "how can you sleep at night."
"Killing a planet will kill all the children." I finally graced him with and answer. "Why would I care if a few kicked the bucket early?"
"Aah why am I even trying to reason with a psycho!" He turned away from me.
A good question, I thought, why are you trying to reason with me.
I continued to stare at him as he shifted his weight uneasily.
Good, I thought, don't fall asleep yet little kitty.
An few hours later Lyra returned looking half asleep, purrrfect.
"Mu-y turnnn." She mumbled.
"Have fun." I jumped down and left the building making sure all the cameras caught sight of me leaving for the city. Then I turned them to loop and switched to my half cat and hurried back.
I slinked up the stairs to the top and paused. Lyra was barely keeping her head up, but the camera feed was still running showing the squirming wildcat.
I waited a few more minutes and sure enough Lyra fell asleep.
Sorry, not sorry, I thought ad I slunk in. Pride will probably punish you.
I pulled my hood up and made sure my hair was tucked back before covering my face with a mask. I slipped over by Oliver who stirred awake his eyes widening in panic. I shoved a gloved hand over his mouth before he could scream and waited a few seconds for him to calm down.
Then I removed it slowly to make sure he stayed quiet before using a wire to unlock the cuffs.
He started to open his mouth and I shoved my hand over it again and shook my head before motioning to Lyra. It was amazing I hadn't woken her yet. Then I motioned to his cat who was still on the camera roll and passed him a small key.
Lyra had been sleepy enough to not notice I only handed her one key earlier.
Then I left, it was up to him now, and I left in the best way possible. I leapt out a window and kite glided away. I soared over some buildings before finding a good one. I folded the kite and dropped down turning into a cat as I landed smoothly.
Then I pulled up the camera feeds and set them all back to normal before opening the live one.
On it Oliver snuck over to his cat Camo and quietly started to mess with the lock.
He carefully undid it and it clicked open.
Hurry up, hurry up! I hissed at my phone screen as in the background I could see Lyra twitch and open an eye.
I Camo jumped back inside Oliver and the two vanished right as Lyra stared at them.
She shot to her feet with a howl and launched at the spot where they had been, but her claws struck only air. Around her, her magic started to flow, a version of sleeping gas was released.
"No!" She yelled searching frantically for the little cat.
Good, little cat should be fine now.
"What happened?"
A cold voice caught my attention and my gaze shot back to the phone screen.
Pride strolled into view.
"I came here to reprimand you for sleeping, I didn't think you would already loose the cat." Pride stared at her coldly. "Find him or you're dead."
They both disappeared from sight but I could hear them ransacking the building.
What are the chances of finding a tiny cat who can turn invisible? Apparently pretty high if you are Pride.
I frowned as he reappeared with the tiny cat in his jaw. Little cat should have run faster.
He didn't hesitate to claw up Camo's legs into a bloody mess. I winced, yeah he won't be running away again anytime soon. He might not be walking again for weeks.
Pride looked at the camera.
"Bring back what is mine Night, or your precious little friend won't live to see tomorrow." Pride made a slicing motion across his neck. "I have changed the time table, I want it by 3am, you have two hours. No nuclear codes, no wildcat."
I frowned at the screen. So Pride was going for the nuclear route of destroying the planet. Figures, what villain wouldn't go that route. Literally press a button level of easy, why create a pandemic or zombie apocalypse when you can just press a few buttons. Cats are indeed lazy by nature.
The real question is how did Night get his paws on the codes? I can't have Pride getting those, time for plan B.
I returned to the building as a snow leopard this time.
"I leave for two minutes and miss all the fun." I walked next to Camo's cage and bared my teeth making him flinch, then I laughed. "Too much fun really." I dragged my claws along the bars leaving grooves. "Funny how you stopped trying to run now."
"Murderer." He hissed back at me.
"Thank you for the compliment." I purred back.
I turned to see Pride looking at me funny.
"Something is different about you." He stated.
Catnip.
"Of course it is, my human likes to talk, a small piece of that wore off on me." I gulped slightly.
Pride shrugged, "well whatever. I'll let you have the honor of killing the wildcat at 3am."
Catnip!
"Why thank you!" I purred. "Nothing like the smell of fresh blood in the morning."
