Chapter 5 - The morning after - II

Carson had disappeared and she had finished eating. It was high time for Christian to not appear when she was at his house because whenever she would come to his house, he would always be beside her. So she had decided to leave his house instead.

The guards nodded to her. They had a whole security team at home and then individual ones who would follow them everywhere. It seemed a little bit excessive, but to be honest, the amount of money they had must've brought them a lot of more trouble with the media attention and what not. She had seen her crazy media could get.

Grace sighed and pulled out her phone. She opened the uber app when she heard Carson's voice.

"I apologise for being late, madam. Are you calling for a taxi?"

Grace nodded.

Carson said, "If you do not mind, Mr Miller will like to accompany you back to your apartment."

Mr. Miller? Adrian Miller wanted to escort her back to her apartment? Was she dreaming? The last time she had seen Adrian give her a hint of a smile was the year his wife died. After that she had never seen him smile or laugh out of joy and genuine happiness.

"Okay," she nodded her head nonetheless. If Mr Miller wanted to talk to her then there must be a good reason for it. Otherwise he was not the one to even look in the direction of another.

Carson bowed his head before excusing himself and saying, "Sir will be down in a few minutes. If you want you can sit and wait for him in the living room. Please, I insist."

She shrugged to herself and worked in. If he was going to be a minute or two then she was not going to stand outside in the cold.

He arrived minutes later.

"Grace," he wished and as she stood up he gave her a chaste kiss on the forehead before asking her to move out with him. The car rolled in front of them and they climbed in.

"Thank you for dropping me home." She smiled. He was still Christian's father. "Where was Chris though?"

"Aboard."

Grace gaped at him slightly. "What?" She asked not believing her ears. Abroad? As an out of the country?

If it was a small trip out of the state or country Christian would inform her. He would even tell her if he hd landed safely or not then how was it that he left the country and did not even tell her about it?

Adrian Miller nodded. "Yes, grace. Are you aware of what happened last night?"

She shook her head. "Do you?" She asked him. It was no surprise that Christians security team reported to his father directly about what he was doing and sometimes about Grace as well. She did have a small suspicion that he was also keeping an eye on her.

He stared at her for a moment longer before he looked away and outside the window. She watched his side profile waiting for him to answer.

"Yes, unfortunately, I do." He said and she raised her eyebrows. Unfortunately?! What had happened?

The car stopped and Grace immediately looked out from her side of the window. Just as expected her apartment was in front of her, only the shop below it was under construction.

"What?" She shrieked. "What the hell?!" She yelled from inside the car in sheer panic of what she was seeing.

She stared in horror at the staff refurnishing the entire shop. She never sanctioned any of this. Who touched her shop?

She opened the car door, but found when it did not bulge.

"Move," she heard Mr Miller say. She turned to him immediately. The thought of her shop being reconstructed without her permission was at the very back now. What was this man up to?
