Dressed to the best, in an expensive pantsuit, she walked out of the apartment at 7:30 in the morning. She was required to be at the office at 8:30 but she had left an hour early to visit someone special.
Romeo waited for her outside the apartment and opened the car door for her. Closing the door, he moved to the driver's seat and within seconds they drove off to the hospital.
"Thank you Romeo," she smiled and he nodded his head with a small smile, "You can wait inside. It would take around 30 to 40 minutes."
He nodded back, "All right, you will find me in the waiting lounge."
She stepped back and walked into the hospital. She had been to the building a thousand times before and knew where to go.
The familiar environment appeared as the lift doors opened. Walking out she found the receptionist who smiled at her and opened the visitation register.
"Thank you." Grace smiled and moved to the room where her grandmother was but Stopped.
It had not occurred to her until now that her grandmother was not aware of what happened to the bakery. What was she supposed to tell her grandmother that the beloved bakery she had left her had passed to Grace was no longer available because of something that she could not mention to anyone otherwise she was sure that along with her best friend she would be thrown to jail?
She sighed and cupped her entire face.
This was not good. What was she supposed to tell her Nana?
She bit her lip yet moved in. She would see what happened.
She started walking to the door and white smile came to her face as she turned around to see her grandmother. "Hi Nana!"
"Shut up." The grumble came from the bathroom door. Her Nana walked out of it while scratching her bum. "It's too early in the morning and my bladder does not help."
She then turned to Grace, "Gimme your bladder." She placed her hand out as if demanding Grace to place her bladder in her hand.
Grace giggled and sat on the foot of the bed. "how are you?"
"Good," Lorelai smiled as she took her seat in the bed, "there is a new nurse here. I swear it takes me back to my prime days. Oh, I love feeling his taunt bum."
"Nana!" Grace chided, horrified by the antics. "that's groping and practically harassment!"
Lorelai waved it off. "It was once and nothing compared to what women go through. Though, you should try," she wiggled her eyebrows, "groping the front."
"Ewwwe," Grace looked away and closed her eyes. "Nana. Stop."
"I got a job though," she revealed as a distraction, "it's not confirmed yet. The letter of confirmation will still take time."
Lorelai frowned immediately. "What? Is the bakery not working well? If you want we can pull out some savings."
"The Bakery. . ." Grace sighed, "It was demolished."
"What!" Lorelai gasped. "Why!"
"It was a hit and run." Grace ransacked her brain, "everything was destroyed."
Lorelai closed her eyes and shook her head. "That was something I started with your grandfather . . ." She sugged tiredly, "I guess if anything has a limit with time."
Lorelai placed her hand on Grace's knee, "Why don't you visit me in the evening child?"
She did not want to talk. That's fine. "Yeah, sure." She smiled and got off the bed. That was perfectly fine.
"Bye Nana." She said as she picked up her purse from the edge of the bed. She stood at the corner of the bed and did not go around to hug her Nana this time.
"Bye child." Lorelai replied back.
Grace moved out of the door and her phone pinged. It was a notification from Instagram. Christian had finally posted something after a long time on his private account.
She felt sadness creep in. He had posted a photo as if he was on holiday and by his smile she could tell that he was enjoying it.
The irony. He was enjoying everything and that one night had caused her Nana to push her away for the first time.
He had easily move on, She realised.
