Chapter 4 - feeling

"Do you want to stop following me?" Esteban complained.

"I can't do that. The awakening can happen at any moment, I have to be in that moment to document it." Dustin replied with a beaming smile on his face.

"I don't care. I don't want to have you behind me all day." Esteban took his lunch from the dining room and ran trying to get rid of the annoying boy.

He ran all the way back to the tree path, when he saw that there was no one around him, he took a seat on a bench, opened his sandwich and took a bite.

"I found you!!"

Esteban jumped scared as he choked on his sandwich. Dustin handed him a bottle of orange juice that Esteban drank without question.

"But what the hell is wrong with you ?! You scared me to death."

"No one has been scared to death. Unless you have heart problems. Do you?" Dustin asked as he pulled a small notebook out of his pocket.

"No. I don't have a heart problem. He was saying it figuratively." Esteban snorted. "At the end of the day. What's your damn problem? Why are you so obsessed with documenting our awakenings?"

Esteban couldn't understand this boy. He was one of the best students in the whole school and the best of his class. His parents managed to awaken excellent powers and were owners of a large company, but his strange behavior was already commonly known to all.

Dustin sighed. "Tell me Esteban. Do you know what my power is?"

Esteban shook his head. Dustin had been one of the first classmates he had awakened having been born in January. But he's decided to keep his power a secret.

Something not very well seen at school. Generally, the people who decide to keep his power a secret are people who awakened weak or useless powers and do not want others to know about it. Those who awaken very strong powers usually go public with great pride.

This was one of the reasons why Dustin was not very well received among his own teammates. But no one dared to mess with him, for fear of provoking his parents.

"My power is called 'feeling'." Dustin raised his face and looked up at the sky. "It is not a very strong power, but it is useful. I have helped on numerous occasions in my parents' company to avoid many problems."

"And what does that have to do with your obsession?" Esteban asked.

"Do you know what the first feeling I had when I woke up was?"

Esteban just looked at him waiting for his answer.

"I sensed that someone very powerful was going to be born in our class !!"

The cool morning breeze blew, filling the cold silence between the two people sitting on the bench.

"Are you serious?" Esteban asked doubtfully.

"Absolutely." Dustin nodded firmly. "That feeling was so powerful, it couldn't be wrong. Do you know what that means to me?"

Dustin got up from his seat and stood in front of Esteban with a totally fanatic look.

"All my life I have been studying about history and its great characters." Dustin began to shake with excitement. "But now I have the opportunity to not only be a witness but also to be a part of history by documenting his awakening.

I will no longer read about the story. I will live it in my own flesh and I will witness how it is written. "

"Just thinking about it makes me excited !!" Dustin clenched his fist tightly as he stared off into the distance.

Esteban was very surprised by Dustin's revelation. Never in his wildest dreams had it occurred to her that that was the reason.

"Now I understand a little of your motivations. At least you are not simply a madman for no reason." Esteban shrugged as he looked at him with a smile. "When you find the lucky one, don't forget to call me so you can witness him too."

Dustin didn't react one bit to Esteban's teasing words, but he looked at him very strangely when he mentioned the second part.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Dustin looked at him like an idiot. "Do you realize that with you there are only 4 people in our room who haven't woken up yet? Which means, there is a 25% chance that you are that person. Why aren't you excited?" He asked is he clearly intrigued.

Esteban's right arm trembled slightly for a second, but then he pulled himself together. It would be a lie if I said that he was not thrilled to think of that possibility, but life had always been very hard on him, forcing him to always have a very pessimistic thought.

"It's true." He nodded they were. "But there is also a 75% probability that it is not me. Besides, I have always been someone mediocre and without talents, I do not want to get excited and then leave disappointed." Esteban took the snack from him and walked away while he whispered softly. "I just hope I don't awaken a useless power."

Dustin stood watching her back slowly disappear from view of him.

A smile slowly began to bloom on his face as he watched it more. "That's what you say, but ..." Dustin clutched his chest tightly. "So tell me. How come my feeling beats so madly being around you?"
